I'd like to remind the thread that if at any point you are trivializing a person's traumatic experiences, or justifying another's racist and bigoted reactions, you should reconsider your thought process and whether you are as in the right as you think you are.

You're assuming too many things on my side of the discussion. I am not justifying the path valve took, I agree there are better ways to manage item distribution (namely avoiding the gambling nature of lootboxes). I just feel/felt you are shunning cosmetics ENTIRELY for the reason that you don't like them in the game. Lots of people like them (that's why it's gotten to this point), their inclusion is not the issue. Their distribution is the issue. They are indeed distributed in a way that preys on invested players who justify large sum purchases on the chance of getting something worth more than their investment.
Likewise, had they kept the cosmetic slots limited to 1 hat 1 body (or something similar), the game could have avoided a lot of its current issues regarding visual downgrades and equip region nightmares. But we're past the point of no return, there is literally nothing to gain from reminiscing 'the good ol days'. All we can do is try to find new solutions.
RGL brought 7s, then it added 9s, you know what this means. 11s coming next season POGGERS
I personally hate trading and the way cosmetics have devolved the game into a dressup sim, but to say "reee everyone who buys hats is a normie reeee" is really misguided. Without cosmetics/skins TF2 would literally be dead. Long gone. Caput. CSGO and DOTA wouldn't be a fraction of the size they are (item purchases drive tournament pools). Trading/Items are a healthy and important part of these games livespan. The problem is that valve has become very complacent to push outlandish items and killing the artstyles for the sake of pulling higher profits.
you're also pulling a major case of "STOP LIKING WHAT I DONT LIKE!!!"
people saying it's preference are liars. use EXACTLY #00ff00 or else you will never be good. that's just fact. it scientifically makes you better, your clothes nicer, your face more symmetrical and your sexual charisma more potent.
I personally still advocate if nothing else for the existence of a casual 6v6 mode which functions under competitive rules (namely stopwatch & critical 0). I think bridging the 12v12 gap would be ideal above all but it's also the least tangible because of how ingrained the culture of "I don't want to try" is in casual. Of course whether or not that 6v6 casual would be populated at all is up for debate, but right now the only way to get a 6s experience without using third party is in a somewhat stressful staked-game of comp- something which drives away lots of new players from even trying.
Haven't seen this discussed in a while, just wanted to share it. I messaged a coordinator at dreamhack ATL and recently got response. I'm somewhat removed from the competitive scene right now so I don't feel qualified enough to coordinate such a thing, but if others would like to I may be able to help in some way.
tbh I feel like we'd be pretty cohesive and forgiving, considering i'm acutely aware of what calls I want to hear and dislike it when others don't do them
However everyone on the team would be dying to offclass and the medic would definitely have to play the babysitter. Also I definitely only think I am better on demo/soldier than I actually am. So I would suck on those classes, while the other versions of me would silently think "we need to switch, this guy blows"
getas response didnt add anything to the thread. however it is dumb for people to downvote legitimate responses just because they didnt agree. geta is right in that it's preference, there's not a 'correct'. so idk why you'd downfrag said preferences.
I really wish there was an option to show only the weapon, but no hands/arms. I like the visual feedback of a gun but dislike the visual clutter of everything else (similar to how the original's viewmodel functions)
Steiner_RFUNKeThis is just a theory, but I'm willing to bet this is less about pissing off thousands of TF2 players and more about pissing off valve. especially because I doubt he monitors the reactions of people in those games, rather just sicks them onto official servers and waits until valve makes a move.
Of course, a voiding lack of empathy for all those players is a necessary ingredient for all of it.
If he wants to piss valve off, why attack TF2 of all games?
because their other active IPs have better handling of stuff like this. TF2's an easy target.

Really liked this, poked at obvious comparisons but still managed to come off without seeming cliche (the high quality production may attribute to this). I think it helps that he avoided implying that one is 'better' than the other, and put them on a pretty even field.
