haha epic !
Calling it now: it'll be two sets of contracts (campaigns if you will) that you choose, and by completing a heavy/pyro contract (that aren't necessarily class-limited contracts) you contribute to their campaigns.
One of the things I talked to Valve about were DX9/8, and graphics configs. I think they made some really good points that I'll try not to butcher.
First of all, DX8 is *super old*. I know that's obvious, but the main reason that's a problem is that when they add something new, they'll often have to make it work in DX8 too -- which takes up valuable development time. Plus, because DX8 lacks features that DX9 has, it takes longer because they have to come up with a workaround.
Another thing they touched on were graphics configs. From what they said, a lot of graphics configs didn't do what they thought they were doing. One instance they gave me had to do with skins -- when they released skins, people complained that they caused massive hitching on their clients, when they really shouldn't because they're just textures with UV coordinates. They found that everyone complaining about it was running a certain, very obscure cvar that modified something (I forget what). The problem was that changing this cvar gave an average fps boost (via demotime), but it caused hitching whenever a skin's texture had to be uploaded to the GPU.
Basically, a lot of cvars are misunderstood or don't do what people think they do -- and even if they do, a lot of graphics configs are based around average fps as opposed to a smooth FPS with few hitches.
That said they know perf is a problem and they're working on it.
I know I shit on you like all the time, sideman, but you're one of the best parts of the comp scene.

BurningSmileDoes anyone know if this means we get the new maps today or tomorrow? I cant remember how these day updates work. Do we get everything on the final day or do we get the day 1 stuff today?
everything on the final day.
iliumGeel they said so in the faq, only options accessed through the menu will be allowed
Ah, you're right. Here's hoping they add a significant amount of new options to the menus, then.
iliumSo it's exactly the same as the beta, retarded cvar restrictions and all. Why even have a year long beta if you're literally not going to change literally one thing? No one played MM because it was bad and no one will play MM now because it is still exactly the same. There better be some optimization or this update is a huge disappointment. Unless you like totally serious pubs I guess.
What evidence do you even have that it hasn't changed? You haven't seen shit. You haven't seen evidence that cvar restrictions (besides DX9) are still in place.
You haven't seen anything about the new matchmaking, really, so wait.
It kickstarted my entire career

As for the Nameless vs Crowns and B@GSER 5 vs Comfortably Spanked matches: I will treat them as usual. Let them be played out and as verify them as soon as I can so people can get their items.
so keep placing those juicy skinz on the site just in time for it to shut down and lose them because they weren't retrieve in time?
The site will be shut down long after the final match has been verified.
The tftv production team is by far the most important part of comp tf2
The fact that they're looking for WordPress developers is an instant and permanent "abandon ship immediately" red flag
ViperGeel9-Matchmaking
-Pyro/engie/spy/maybe heavy buff
-Skins most definitely
-Revamped Matchmaking UI
-Some sort of rewards for matchmaking
-4 taunts
-Changing pub play somehow to encourage competitive play
