ObiI'll play anything c: and Mav probably will too
Also is there any issues with bringing my config on a USB?

Bringing your configs should be fine, I was expecting that. However, I remember during SoCal, there was a mention that there was a batch file somewhere that could be used to quickly wipe tf folders so people could switch configs with ease. Does anyone know more about this, or the code?

EDIT: Some people have asked me about peripherals. If you absolutely need them, we can look into making switching between peripherals faster, but there is no guarantee.

We only have 12 PCs for playing, so no Highlander, unfortunately.

Also, please don't bring alcohol into the venue.

Yes, here is a screen cap of what my game looks like. I always have net_graph 1 on to I constantly monitor my ping. (My config shrinks the size of net_graph, but that's ok)

#1 TLAN (Toronto TF2 LAN) September 5th 2015 in LAN Discussion

(In order to clear some clutter, I am starting a new thread.)

Hunter & Lucas eSports club in Toronto has expressed interest in seeing what the competitive TF2 community has to offer. They have provided us with the opportunity to host a small TF2 tournament on the Labour Day weekend. I'm looking forward to this event, as we have waited a long time for an opportunity to host another TF2 tournament in Canada!

Basic Information:

TLAN Summer 2015 Tournament

Venue:
Hunter & Lucas eSports Club
2-195 Bentworth Ave.
Toronto, Ontario
M6A 1P6

Date: September 5th
The venue will be open at 12 noon. Please plan to arrive for then, so we can get things started quickly!

Map

Directions via TTC

From Yorkdale Station/Line 1 Yonge University:
Follow these directions if you are taking GO to Yorkdale. If you are coming from Viva or any bus that stops at Downsview or Wilson Stations, you can go south to Yorkdale and take the bus Lansdowne Bus.
Take the 47B Lansdowne via Bridgeland south to Bentworth Ave. and walk west (The 'no exit' side of the intersection)

If you are coming from a station along the Yonge side, north of Lawrence you should take a bus westbound to the western station (Lawrence West, and so on). South of Lawrence Ave., you could take a bus west from the station to Caledonia (North of St. Clair), or Lansdowne (South of Davenport).
(This probably sounds weird and makes no sense, but it makes sense to me, and I have a visual map in my head. Either way, it's still probably a good idea to look up directions on Google Maps and the TTC website just to make sure)

From Lansdowne Station/Line 2 Bloor-Danforth (Or anywhere downtown):
Follow these directions if you are coming from Union Station, anywhere in the downtown area, or along the Bloor line.
Take the subway to Lansdowne Station (Make sure you picked up a transfer). Take the 47B Lansdowne via Bridgeland north to Bentworth Ave. and walk west (Again, the side of the street that has a dead end).

General FAQ

Where can I buy my ticket and register?
We are at capacity. I have closed the registration form.

Is this event BYOC?
We are renting PCs from Hunter & Lucas, so you will not have to bring your PC.

Can I bring my own peripherals?
The desks have to be unlocked by the venue staff in order for personal peripherals (i.e. headsets, keyboards, mice) to be used. Avoid bringing peripherals, or we will risk unnecessary delays.

You can bring your own peripherals. There are hubs behind the monitors. (I went today and played TF2!)

What's the capacity?
There are 12 PCs booked, and currently the tournament is planned for 4 teams.

Is there is an age restriction?
No. You can go if you are under 18 without any issues.

How will seating work?
The venue has custom-built computer desks and are placed in groups of 4 or 5. As a result, one or two of your teammates will have to sit further from the rest of the team.

Is there a hotel near the venue?
The nearest hotel would the Holiday Inn - Yorkdale, which is very close to the 401, and Yorkdale Station.

*new* Food info:
I have been told no outside food or drinks allowed in the venue. However when you come, you will be given a "meal ticket" which is good for a burger and a pop.

Tournament Info:

Format: 6v6
There are currently enough people for 4 teams. There will be a round robin for seeding followed by either single or double elimination depending on timing, and a best of 3 grand final.

All matches up until the grand final will be EU rules: Difference of 5 points, or 30 mins. Should there be a tie, golden cap will be played. If a team does not win a round in 10 mins, the win is awarded to the team controlling the mid point.

We will use the ESEA S19 Whitelist.

Map pool:
cp_process_final
cp_badlands
cp_granary_pro_b10
cp_snakewater_final1
cp_sunshine_rc8
cp_gullywash_final1
koth_product_rc8

(I'm keeping it to 5cp only because I have to pretty much customize and install the configs myself. I would rather not make a koth one for just one koth map)

Will there be any prizes?
The current prize pool is:

1st place: Box of cookies + $10 gift card to Canada Computers + 1 key
2nd place: Box of cookies + 1 key
3rd place: Box of cookies + 1 key
4th place: Box of cookies + 1 key

#301 GXL LAN 2015 in News

Just a note for Canadians going to GXL:

If you're planning to vote in the upcoming federal election, you should vote in the advance poles, as the election date is the Monday right after the LAN! Depending on how you plan on going back, you could end up voting during a busy time, and who wants to line up and deal with voting crap when you're half asleep.

Anyway, if you would like to vote, you should vote during the advance poles, which are every afternoon-evening of the Canadian Thanksgiving weekend (9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th from 12-8pm). Save yourself some trouble, and get the government to stop complaining about voter turnout.

#174 Toronto TF2 LAN in the Summer in LAN Discussion

Hey guys, I'm back.

Again, the biggest thing that needs to be set up is online registration and payment because we need confirmed numbers to present to the venue. However, because we don't have those numbers, the date of September 5th is subject to change since we cannot book the venue unless we have a solid number.

As for minors; There are no restrictions as far as I know, however I will relay any additional information on minors as that becomes clear (This is important for me as well). I also will look into insurance policies and other venue rules.

As for alcohol, given my situation, I will have to discourage it outside of places where it is served (i.e. bars and restaurants). The venue did not have alcohol when I was last there, and my guess is prohibits it. It would be kind of awkward to have people drinking in places outside of bars and restaurants when the person running the whole event can't drink.

#130 Toronto TF2 LAN in the Summer in LAN Discussion

I'm back for a day. I leave in less than 24 hours.

I have to pay a deposit in order to secure the 5th of September, but I don't even have a pre-registration set up. Basically, I'm going to setup a basic system for you guys to pre-pay in order to guarantee people show up. I'm not paying for unused PCs.

More on this in two weeks, sadly. This is going to be fast registration, but that's how it has to be.

#61 ESEA Allowing medigun pickups? in TF2 General Discussion

Was considering making a thread similar to this because I was curious as well. Last time I was playing on TF2Pickup, there were some rumours going around that ETF2L was favouring to allow medigun pickups. Haven't heard anything confirming or denying this since.

I can agree to being able to pick up a different medigun, such as picking it up to switch from Uber to Kritz without dying or going back to resup, but retaining the percentage can be crippling to a game. It might seem like a dumb way to think about it, but this reminds me similar reasons why the Vita-Saw is banned.

Uber is an important component to competitive play. With the Vita-Saw, you were able to retain up to 20% Ubercharge when you died. So that was 20% you didn't have to build when you respawned. With the case of being able to retain percentage when I pick up a Medigun, it's a similar case, except I don't have to die to instantly gain any percentage. In many circumstances, I could use my Uber, drop the opposing med, pick up their gun, and I would have Uber long before they had any opposing chance. Yes, they would lose some advantage by dying, but if you can instantly gain 40%+, that's not a fighting chance. I appreciate if a team is able to kill me, but I don't appreciate not having at least a slight chance to work back what I lost.
