I remember this guy, total one trick pony. Predictable and frankly not impressive at all.
Starkit seems a bit strange that it's highlander only, I'd be very surprised if you managed to get 160 highlander players
For a TF2 LAN I'd be surprised we got 160 in general.
KairuI think you missed the entire point of my post. I'm not questioning the tournament, the reasons, restrictions, saying they shouldn't be doing this or anything like that.
As an aside though: I'd also be curious to see an attachment rate. How many of these players actually do come into the scene. How many just wanted a shot at the prize pool and will continue not joining leagues.
SideshowSo the argument becomes, are you doing all you can? All alts that get reported/detected will be acted on, and have been acted on.
Why would I be? I've been excluded from this tournament.
That's the job of the tournament admins. What I'm questioning is the "I'm sure they're being enforced". It's a pretty simple question. It's a pretty big concern, because they should be, you shouldn't just go off a freaking assumption that they are.
CHERRYYes
Thanks, this one word told me more than Sideshow's rant.
As already discussed, numerous admins including Ond Kaja spent a long time checking and ensuring players fit the criteria. I was not against players with limited experience coming into the tournament, attracting new players from lobbies and retaining those with limited experience interest in competitive TF2 was one of the key motivators for organizing the event. It's mutually beneficial as TF2center gain exposure, ETF2L gain exposure, TF.TV gain exposure and Scrap.tf gain exposure and more sections of the community come together.
Sideshow hit the nail on the head - I'd rather we put on this event and take the risk of people abusing the system than not bothering to try at all out of fear of one or two people who want to cheat or sandbag. Besides think about it, 18 people will win prizes, you really think we're going to pay any money to any of them without being absolutely certain they aren't fakers? If there are fakers they're completely wasting their time and only risk lengthy bans.
b4nnyDid they not test run of any of this? It's a shame that 128 teams of new players are getting their first competitive TF2 experience from something so sloppily run. The #1 most important thing in running a tournament is getting it done in a timely fashion, especially when these teams have already been asked to commit 3 hours of their time this weekend to play, and if that means you need to test things beforehand please do or else your name might as well be JDawg.
I assure you it was tested an hour before, nobody can quite explain why it all went wrong. It isn't exclusively that, there were some methods of communication that were...inefficient, marked with the problems with the servers and lobbies it became unattainable. It's a bit of a shame it went down this way and I do apologize and take full responsibility for all the issues - We've seen the worst of what can happen we can only strive to make things better.
On the bright side I saw some good games, 1200+ viewers, Geel handing out those raffles, entertaining casts so I thought when we actually got the meat and potatoes that were the games, it went well.
For seasoned competitors it won't be the most interesting TF2 you'll ever watch but for new players, it's a chance for them to flex their TF2 muscles.
Great stuff Ads!
mustardoverlordVortexDo logs that have no damage stats count as 0 towards the average?
if that's the case, then this thing will be ridiculously biased towards eu players, as they've all been using logs.tf pretty much since the beginning
I've had so many lobbies in NA where sizzlingstats work fine but the corresponding logs.tf file has 0 dmg
edit: I checked my profile and given the fact that my ka:d is actually higher than huhy's (the #1 ranked demo according to this system) I feel like the broken dmg stats must be a factor

http://beta.tf2playerrankings.com/#/player/76561198000082028/huhy
edit #2: I'm pretty sure phrakture and b4nny are literally the only two demos from na in the top 30, as an example of the stats' effects
Sounds like someone cannot accept the wholesome truth that EU > NA. PROVEN BY STATS 100%!
Best get lobbying bro.
LOLfighterXDWe can play if we singed up at the 10th of January at 17:30 ?? :D
Our team: http://etf2l.org/teams/23160/

Only if there are not enough teams that turn up in time for the contest.

My roomate and his friends were under the impression that we still had a full day to sign up because of the wording in this post. Is there any way that we would still be able to sign up? The post on reddit says we only have until 23:59 CET Saturday instead of Sunday which would be unlikely for us to pull off considering he's offline at the moment and thats in 50 minutes.

Please :(
I am sorry for the confusion - Indeed signups are closed. Really glad to see you are interested in participating.
We can still add you to the Waiting List. Even if signups had still been open, you may not have been guaranteed a place in the tournament as we have had more than the allocated slots, however there is still a chance teams will not show on time for the event, albeit there is no guarantee at this stage.
SheepylolI jammed on the guitar with her once and she enjoyed it but it felt like she was doing it to be nice. She is so fucking attractive though you would all be freaking out like me if you got the chance to go see your favorite band with a girl of your dreams,
Don't think like that, she was jamming with you cos you're a baller and sexy as hell! Now shut up posting here and go get her you beast you!
Just trying to imagine.
"Hey Mal3a, come quit school and play TF2 with 2 other people with community funding and live with them whilst you're at it".
"Hey Ruwin go leave your wife/career for however many months to live in a house with two people from the internet you barely know".
Yeah I think you'd be laughed off the floor mate.
Concept is interesting enough but the money it'd cost to pay for all their travelling, accommodation and living expenses even for the likes of 1 month wouldn't be worth the viewers, you may as well take the same money and make a big TF2 cup with a cash prizepool, or use it to fund a big LAN event.
eXtineHildrethDon't think there is any reason to push a new competitive format without some form of legitimate support. If Valve support this particular format with matchmaking, push it. If they don't then you won't find enough support from either community.
We won't get any form of legitimate support for a new or adjusted competitive format unless we eXperiment with it. That's why I've also supported the eXperimentation with 6s in regards to Open Whitelist.
Robin Walker wants to see some sort of pick/ban system implementated so that every match features unique and fresh strategies. How we implement that is up to us. I believe that the class ban system in A:R is a good way to do that. Maybe 6's with Open Whitelist + item bans is better, still to be determined.
Completely agree, considering the feedback you've had from Robin and I can see why you're experimenting.
I just can't see why pushing a completely new format altogether with a limited and somewhat average map pool is the answer. Maybe 6's isn't, maybe HL isn't and maybe 4v4 isn't but each of these gamemodes exists and has some form of following across the globe already. I know valve are reluctant to play with competitive in it's current format, and I welcome a more open whitelist and pick/ban system but not the 5v5 Arena Respawn mode. Try to fit it as best you can to existing formats, I'd say HL and 4's have more potential than 6's to fit with "Valve's" game.
I'd support 5v5 Arena Respawn if Valve did with matchmaking, but from a competitive point of view, we have 3 different and better formats to go for.

Literally just go up to a girl you fancy and talk to her. It's that easy.
Asking us TF2 nerds on a forum isn't going to improve your confidence, go fail a few times in conversation with bad pickup lines, jokes and learn from your mistakes and then eventually you'll succeed.
Other than that I'd advise you do what you enjoy and not worry about relationships, it happens eventually anyway - natural attraction or just hitting it off with someone will eventually come about if you put yourself about a bit and meet new people.
