Knuckles_Russians also used keys for money laundering.
Can I just say the Russian mafia is easily my favorite of all the mafias

For the OP, is the problem solves? Check with the card provider or merchants and confirm they received a payment.
SideshowI'm not saying the money is the motivating factor though, it's the desire to win. Imagine you're deciding how to run bets on an upcoming MGE cup and you decide to cover the final - Mike vs Stark. Now stark is gonna get fucked, everyone knows that, so in order to sort the betting out a bit you make it so that stark wins if he gets 10 points. Mike (being a dodgy bastard and so far above the competition) can afford to throw a bit to win fat refined as well as the tournament prize. This situation only happens when the winner can afford to throw a bit and will still win - but that's exactly the situation in which you want to split bets.
I think for regular games the appeal of winning and the risk of being caught outweighs getting a moderate amount of refined. But in this case they win anyway, and get money for winning, and get a tonne of refined for fixing the result toward a huge underdog.
If you run a model for any business, you need to base it on a model of profit and not on a model of worst case scenarios.
You can regulate and take precautions against match-fixing, ultimately it isn't Saloon's responsibility to come up with solutions to stop match fixing on league games as much as it is the leagues who allow saloon to use their logo and promote their matches.
Saloon runs a disclaimer and strictly prohibits involvement in betting on the outcome, the ToS's will be updated in due course to reflect this, users who do it will be banned from using the site.
End of the day - there is risk involved of corruption but you cannot go around fearing the worst of people and allow 1% to dictate how betting is operated - the only way to fully prevent match fixing in full is to not bother with a betting site. Allow the risk and you can make a profit, don't take a risk and you'll end up nowhere.
THG one of the best pub communities, spawned some of the best community HL teams that went on to make teams like May Contain Nuts.
It's rare but it's what is missing from TF2 these days, solid pub communities where you can join, chat to people and communicate in game. These days it's all Russian 11 year olds on Valve servers screaming in your ear.
TurinHow the fuck could that guy afford a hooker 5 nights a week.
Stay in school kids
clckwrkI mean to say there were too many matches a week between ETF2L and ESEA is one of the largest cop outs I've ever heard. CS players play so many more games than that a week and almost all the games are competitive. Many ETF2L matches, along with ESEA matches are very one-sided and therefore not very mentally draining. Or at the very least, they shouldn't be. Scheduling conflicts between a mere 2 leagues is like elementary school planning. We played CEVO and ESEA when they were both primary NA leagues and there really wasn't a big problem.
I also think the way TF2 people scrim 1 or 2 maps until they break a sweat and then play officials on the same two maps is such a bad way to improve, but also a bad way to gauge skill. Honestly, every week's matches against X and Y team should happen on a veto system for maps in the same way CS does. If your goal is to compete in finals or at LAN, that's the format used. It's best to practice something that's useful, like adapting on the fly and being ready for any map, instead of grinding the same map for 3 days straight until you have a shortlived mastery of it, and promptly it's forgotten until the next time it's played.
I think it's more down to poor organisation, lack of experience in ESEA + the no mercs rule.
In NA you've had several seasons to know the system, here you got something totally new, with different rules, needing to pay actual cash money (shock horror to many Euros) to play and then you try hard to arrange an official, which is fucking hard when you're scheduling ETF2L in the same week and you find Opponent A can only play Tuesday with their main lineup cos their Scout has booked an escort every night of the week except Monday and Tuesday, but their Roamer can't do Monday because he has a cookery class that focuses on Aubergine soup that week and he can't miss that but your teammates can only play Wednesday or Thursday or Sunday because your Medic's dog has a cancer support group on Tuesday, so then they either get the default date or you do, but they can't find a 6th as they have no mercs, so they just default.
Basically teams that entered were madly underprepared and cos of the no merc rules, lots of games got defaulted or ended up 5v6. I know my team lost interest when we lost to some div 4 team as we had only 5 people available one evening for one reason or another (I hope those Aubergines were good). General culture in EU is wrong for ESEA, not without at least starting the season during ETF2L off-season could it work I think, that way teams focus on it solely and prepare better.
Really cool to see Sheep doing well, for those who follow CS:GO really appreciate it if you keep us up to date on his movements, love to see a TF2'er make a name for themselves in a bigger game. And hopefully sheep will keep remembering to come back and say hi to us.
yung_tapside note: would be pretty cool if etf2l came over to NA
You guys have UGC, free community league and you had CEVO, just the big difference was a 4 or 5 years ago when ESL was still going for TF2, The Euros decided to support the free community league whilst the Americans decided to support the Pay to Play ESEA League.
Which is best for the scene? I'll leave that for you to decide, but I kind of agree with Enigma's assessment, ESEA EU could be on par with the North American one, I even pumped £100 of my own money to get it going but the whole bitcoin fiasco left a sour taste in my mouth. You can say what you like about ETF2L but they're not money grabbing criminals.
I'd refused the pizza, called the manager first and foremost.
Secondly I would have called the police and told them about the man committing indecent exposure and vandalism to your property, so the git learns his lesson next time.
SideshowI don't wanna skew the stats or anything but 6% on 1000 Poops is ridiculously low. They have been beating us recently and I'm gonna say that while I'm confident in winning on the night, there's at least a 30% chance in my mind that they'll win. 6% is madness and I wish I could bet against us just on the off-chance. Shows how much people just look at the tables and don't research or ask people in the know :D
Stop manipulating the betting markets Sideshow!
I said...after trying to do....the same thing.
Btw those betting on Premtech vs Highpander, I'll have you know we're not as clear favourites as you might think, since they beat us last season, just saying, smart money is on Premtech folks!
defykaneco every single post you make comes off as "only i'm right everyone else is wrong" but i'll entertain the comment anyway since you seem completely oblivious as usual.
its not a stupid comparison, i'm not talking about the size of csgo lounge or the amount of people that bet on it everyone is well aware of its vast user base and ads. i'm stating a fact of how awful the tf2 market is and the reason why i bring up csgo is because they're all items on steam, and you can purchase/sell both tf2 and cs skins via steam market. suggesting he takes a % at this point in time is dumb for the fact that the value of tf2 items is always has been incredibly low. yes i know its his website thanks for bolding that part i wasn't aware.
he already stated that hes working on putting up a donation link, and since you seem clueless as fuck about tf2 items i'll give you an example. look at what people are betting now in some of the past bets, if you know the actual $ value of refined and craftable hats you would realize that even a small donation is way higher than items in tf2. you can add $5 to your steam wallet right now and get a handful of hats and strange weapons, that $5 is worth more than a bunch of bets i've seen. with the amount of people using the site now there is no doubt he will be getting donations. that will easily trump the amount of a small % of the suggested commission.
also to further strengthen my argument please point me in the direction of players that have asked for money for something they're doing for the tf2 community
a few examples: our NA DM servers are paid for by sal every single month and he asks for nothing in return. every single NA pug system from way back up until now was always paid for by whoever was running it. they paid for all the pug na servers and mix servers whether it was cinq or fog. they never asked for help they wouldn't even take into consideration donations for running them. jump servers from klanana...always ran on her own terms didn't ask for a thing in return. do i really need to go on? it's great to see this website finally going but suggesting he takes a % is a joke yes its ultimately his choice and he can feel free to do what he wants. but he can always pay for it his own way like most people have done in the past
You should know Sal is technically donating to run the NA DM servers, meaning you operate under the costs DONATED to you.The person running the NA pug system is still donating their money to run it, Arie I am sure is donating money to run serveme.tf but still asks for donations. Almost every service we take for granted in this community is run through donations, without them we would die as a community. Not that we will ever stop getting donations, people here are generous and awesome as ever and it seems Cherry is infact a very modest and decent guy and I'd happily donate money to him, like I would donate shitloads for zoob who runs logs.tf at his own expense and never asks for anything back or credit.
All I am saying is if he wanted to make some money from it, takes one google search to find the value of a key, I seen it go for $2, the amount of keys going in bets I would not be surprised if the numbers increased (which will happen over time with the right promotion) there is potential there to at the very least forecast enough to cover the running costs (let alone he could potential to actually make a profit). I definitely think putting a some hours of actual market research is worth the time, after 30 seconds of checking websites it's potentially a go-er.
Depending on donations isn't a sustainable model, I can't understand why people would be opposed to someone from the competitive community using their ingenuity to make some actual money for themselves, like Geel has for scrap.tf. Whether or not he can forecast the level of profit to be more worthwhile than asking someone for a $5 donation isn't the point - A financial co-operative could go to the government and ask for a 50 grand grant to keep themselves running, but that isn't the point - the point is they make enough business with their product to earn enough money to be self-sustainable and hell, put the money back into the cooperative. The potential is there...It's really down to Cherry if he wants to pursue it.
And btw I disagree with everything Kaneco ever says but I agree on this one. It's honestly a good thing to see someone finding of a way to make money from TF2 without asking for donations, least directly.
If Cherry wants a donation btw, I'd be the first to donate.
If I was you Cherry I'd take a commission from the bets, end of the day it's a service that will benefit the competitive community in the long term, improved functionality on the website can only hope to expand numbers and allow for more marketing and working in partnership with all the TF2 leagues, events, tournaments and so forth.
Jon from BOTV told me that on average the Highpander vs Chessclub game had around 380 viewers, whilst the Premiership Final from Season 7 had around 260. That is an increase of nearly 50% in viewership numbers, the ETF2L Prem finals saw numbers reaching 1200+, but I don't have any figures to compare.
So go take your 5% commission and make yourself some money, you deserve it. ;)
Reason to come second, to add to Zoob's already impressive resume of runners-up medals: http://steamcommunity.com/id/zooob/
My understanding of counter-jumping was always jumping after the enemy soldier goes aggressive, so you're effectively "counter jumping" their original soldier aggression to gain an advantage.
I guess it's a phrase that is more universal than you think.
