#13 Let's talk Ferguson in Off Topic
GetawhaleMasterKuniI'm surprised this hasn't been mentioned in this thread yet, but apparently the guy fit the description of a strong-arm robbery that took place prior.
"Police Chief Thomas Jackson said the officer did not know the teen was a robbery suspect at the time of the shooting..."

Important to note, but that doesn't make that point any less relevant.

Brown was 6'3" and 250lbs. Had he committed a robbery and was subsequently confronted by an officer, he may well have been in a state of belligerence which led to the conflict, which would corroborate with at least one eyewitness' account of things.

Note that I'm only playing the same game of hypotheticals that everyone else (including the media) is at the moment. It's the media's job to provide you with the most sensationalist rendition of events, and that currently is the storyline of "innocent defenseless minority murdered in cold blood by racist cop". Sure, this could be entirely true, but they both don't know and don't care.

Anyways, people need to calm their tits and look at the rational, actionable items we should take away from this:

1) Yes, racism still exists in the 21st century (especially in the deep south). Was this a racist crime? Maybe. Do we know? No.

2) Police militarization is a real and growing threat to the rights of Americans. What happened to reading your Miranda rights and innocent until proven guilty? Now we have SWAT units with tanks busting down your door and people getting shot in the face on arrests.

3) Looting and riots is not the solution to anything and we sure as shit don't need another version of 60s race riots and neo-Black Panthers. We need to close the racial divide not exacerbate it.

atmofrequency response != sounds the same

cx300s are garbage

You're totally right. Frequency response won't tell you whether headphones sound the same, but it's a good start. There are other factors you need to consider like the total harmonic distortion, impedance, and square wave response. Thankfully, the good people on the internet have done all the hard work for us.

While they are not the same, they exhibit very similar measurement characteristics across the board.

Good refutation. This chart is provided by Xiaomi themselves

By the way, if the Pistons aren't available in your area, you can get the Sennheiser CX 300 instead. They have nearly identical frequency responses.

From what I've read, these are probably the best IEMs this side of $50. Very good value if you want decent sound on the cheap cheap.

I feel compelled to pay more than the minimum for this, because $5 for over 60 minutes of content is obscene. They're practically giving this away.

#20 Best ISP in TF2 General Discussion

Comcast is pretty reliable and has good ping, but way overpriced for what you get. In addition, their customer service has no equal in terms of shittiness (except maybe Verizon).

I should add, while their download speeds are pretty good, their upload speeds are AWFUL. I would not recommend it for streaming for that reason alone.

I use f.lux in windowed mode, the only downside is that your fps drops during the 20s transition period. It's still definitely worth using.

My favorite part is that this isn't even creating domestic EE jobs in robotics because hardware design & fabbing is outsourced offshore.

#24 Advice on Headphones $200-$400 in Hardware
Rick@atmo my friend has a Simaudio Moon 100D and I've brought over various medicore headphones I've used through the years like sennheiser hd515s, hd202, sony mbrv6, and some JBL

I was used to hearing these headphones on a udac2 which was a decent DAC, after hearing these on my boys simaudio was unreal, ranges opened up I was able to hear and decipher between sounds and instruments much more easily

Now I use an ibasso d7 with hd600s.

Really excellent DACs are underrated, you don't need to spend more than $600 and it will last a lifetime if you are really serious or into recording etc

Also don't buy a PCI sound card it will pick up all emi and sound from the fans and spinning things in your case crippling the sound. Inside a "gaming" PC is not a place to process sound lol

A good DAC isn't going to make your headphones any better than they're capable of being. It also doesn't need to cost more than a few hundred dollars. Anything more than that, you're paying for features, not sound quality. That money should be spent on amplification and headphones, not a dac.

#19 Advice on Headphones $200-$400 in Hardware

Schiit Magni amp/ Schiit Modi dac for $100 each. Spend your remaining budget on the best headphones you can afford (Sennheiser HD598, $200).
