#40 My Custom Platinum T-Shirts in TF2 General Discussion

I deliver on the legal status:

My Question:

Also I have a question for you about selling people's faces. If someone uploads a video or livestreams them playing a game or doing something else where it includes their face (like a webcam view) could I say take the photo and sell it? Or would it under their copyright because they uploaded it? Alternately could I take their face and make a painting or something of it?

Response:

Your question is interesting. The simple answer is yes, if they took the video, they have the copyright, and you are infringning if you take the photo and sell it. Even making a painting based on a frame of the video could be copyright infringement, because you created a derivative work. However, you could look at the video and then create a painting based on your interpretation of what you saw -- as long as you add some creative content and aren't just copying, it's okay.

So basically the example in this thread of Yuki on a shirt would (probably) be illegal as that is directly lifted from a video but the T-Shirt is fine.

Please don't make this start a trend of TF2 player shirts, it is creepy.

Hexes are amazing. Combat stacking (or the lack of) is kinda bad imo.

PlatinumYeah pretty sure you're not allowed to make money off of me without a contract

I would't be so sure. I think that, although creepy, this might be legal as you streaming might count as releasing your image similarly to how paparazii is legal. I know a person who works in IP law; I think I'll email them to ask them.

#30 ESEA Client Trouble Threads Deleted From TFTV/ESEA in TF2 General Discussion
eXtineThere are a bunch of local LANs that could be co-opted as regional championships by the community.

It might take a bit of downtime to go from ESEA to regional LANs but as long as there are competitions and coverage, the scene could do fine without LANs for a little bit.

No one really wants regional LANs though. People like ESEA LAN because it has the top teams playing tons of matches against each other and has players producing videos that lets them see the people that they support.

eSport teams rarely regional though. Within a certain part of the country to get good pings maybe but not really regional. That being said a league could probably rent 24 computers and a couple of servers at a pre existing LAN for fairly cheap.

#17 CEVO TF2 s3 Registration Opens w/ - $600 in prizes in Esports
WahwahI have a little question about this league. Why is there a single open division? I guess the answer is obvious in a way (not enough publicity / players and teams that want to play) but do you think if you eventually grew into a league with say 2/5 the teams as UGC 6s would you branch out more divisions?CEVOPipher- Opportunity to advance to higher skill divisions and compete for larger prize pools

I'm guess that if it got large enough they would.

gr8staliniirc it's 6 like us? That's what I remember from that one stream.

Page says top four teams and later 24 players so yeah 6.

I did the math a while ago and we raise around 24.5K to send teams to i49, I think. Definably reachable. Nice to see a developer encourage esports.

#8 New Footage of Steam Controller in TF2 General Discussion
TrekkiesmoboThe CS:GO footage looked really slow compared to how i went through the course when i did the tutorial. So we haven't quite solved the problem.
Well the controller is pretty new, so the guy doing it probably doesnt have a ton of experience with it yet.

He could also just suck at games.

See how he works at Valve that isn't that likely and you would think that they would practice to make sure that it looked good.

Yeah. It showed 43.3 seconds at the end. I'm gonna see how long it will take me.

Edit: First try: 44.5 seconds but after a couple of times I got it down to 35.7 secs.
