this is my latest attempt. looks a fair bit better. I still have quite a bit of quality to get into this but I'm not really sure how to get it. I'll keep trying to get vdub to render mp4s but so far I haven't figured out how to get anything but .avis out of it.
Thanks for the posts, they helped a lot.
I'm pretty sure everything is completely lossless (or at least very close) until I got h.264 output. Thanks for the link. I've been messing with bitrates and encoding methods for a while now and gotten better results, but still not quite up to par. I'll have an update here tomorrow. Also haven't yet figured out how to get vdub to output any compressed video, just .avis.
Anyway I think I'm making progress again.
-Mike-What bitrate are you using?
The one in the video in OP was 6398 kbps
You know that thing that happens where one thing you type in a post is ignorant/fallacious, and everyone corrects that bit and then ignores the rest of your post? Sucks :/ Shouldn't affect the rest of what I had to say, though.
My bad, anyway.
A post promoting 6s on cp_junction is getting +fragged. I think some voting rights need to be redacted here. Wasn't too long ago that most people who posted about gpit supported it and they got all the +frags. As great as some of the people are, the intensity of this community's bandwagon mentality is just staggering. I'm starting to think I ought to be careful about using the word "witch" around here.
Also love how TLR's post, despite being contrary to the opinions the previous fragvotes have indicated, is getting positive votes. WHEN BANDWAGONING AND DICKSUCKING COLLIDE.
If the map dies, then rest in peace. the good DMs had on gpit B shant be soon forgotten.
I've been working for a long time now trying to get high quality footage of QL onto yt but... haven't. After many hours of working I've totally lost perspective on the quality of my vids and my friends are giving me conflicting feedback, so I'd like some people to have a look at this for me and offer some help if they can.

I think the quality looks okay, but a friend of mine said that when he set it to 1080p it looked like upscaled 360p
I'd also like opinions on the colors because they look totally different depending what monitor I view it on, and I don't know how to work around that issue.
Beyond this point are details about my process, so if anyone can help with this, please do. This is the process that's given me the best results so far:
-use wolfcam to get a series of .TGAs and a .WAV, then virtualdub to save them as an .AVI
-use color director, mess with the colors, render in h264 format
-use easy h.264 to encode with "extreme+ HD" (kirby's suggested brassammense give me slightly smaller files at slightly worse quality)
it seems like no matter what I do, I lose quality at h.264, and then lose a bunch more from the upload.
http://i.imgur.com/McKShYd.jpg <pre and post upload comparison. (difference is much more noticeable fullscreen obv)
SO if anyone can tell me what I can do to get yt to stop shredding my quality or get a better way to get my .AVIs to uploadable sizes and formats, I'd really, really appreciate it.
if you're going from 400 to sub-100 erratically, bruteforcing your FPS with graphics changes to never drop that low seems like an unreliable solution. The only thing I can suggest is making sure your computer's clean, closing other programs, and trying to think of anything that could be occasionally demanding CPU load, eg the classic antivirus re-checking TF2's files as they constantly change in-game.
trying to plain squeeze more FPS out of TF2 is a hellhole of patient experimentation and consideration being rewarded with disappointment, confusion, and negligible gains. I don't recommend walking that path.

evidently they don't even remember how to play these things normally anymore.
the fine runner from before just uploaded a little somethin
oh, cool, I didn't expect to see you post here.
Yeah people on this forum know a thing or two about getting hate from the "not how it's meant to be played" crowd.
It's awesome that this is getting made, since it's totally defiant of the industry standards and it seems like the devs really know how to make a game from a tech standpoint, e.g. Targeting 120 FPS on all machines. And they've definitely got style.
Unfortunately, regarding the MP, I don't think this game looks like very much fun after the novelty of it wears off. Seems like you go for whatever explosive is nearest on the map, and that'll just autokill everything you aim vaguely near until someone else with an explosive weapon happens to aim vaguely near you. Rinse, repeat.
It's got plenty of spectacle and satisfaction to those ridiculous explosions going for it, but it doesn't seem like there's much room for skill. Bottom line is I think I'd get bored quick.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to trying this at launch, and really hope it does it all right. We haven't seen a game like this in a long, long time.
TF2 still crashes on launch/server join for me if overlay is enabled
I'm out of hope.
VipassanaNilthis is defrag, not QL or Q3. that's why it says "df" in the title.
anyway that doppler effect is awesome.
that doesn't mean it has a totally different engine...
It still runs by vq3 physics
I didn't say anything about the physics, I was just correcting the misinformation in this thread. And anyway defrag supports CPM physics, which some clips used.

HL1 UPDATE:
Quadrazid+Spider-Waffle's run is now about halfway through the chapter "Surface Tension", and the new estimated time is 21:20 8I
here's a teaser Quadrazid released of him doing map c1a4j, first in slow-motion, then at normal speed
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Isyk6ZLljfw
For the uninitiated, he's dropping into the map through the ceiling with a nade cooked, he throws it as he's falling to blow up the crates, then he edgebugs the table, and object-boosts into the next map. (Thanks to the next map overlapping with this one, he'll be able to get those crate drops there)
HL2 UPDATE:
No great developments or announcements since the teaser that I'm aware of. Nova Prospekt is done and they're currently a couple maps into d3_c17.
