I'll consider it, I haven't implemented that initially because it's a hassle to have users go get an API key

Is this a fresh Windows install with the game installed? I assume you already set up custom folders? Have you tried launching the game without the custom folders?
Are you running an anti-virus? Try disabling it and restarting steam

I don't really remember how, but I ended up being invited in samiface's team and it's been the most fun and humbling experience I've had in TF2. Being naturally competitive, it took a bit to relax the urge to play well to win - we're not very good - but it's been very worth it.
By proxy I've also had the chance to hang in the eepily.cool/not dead doggo mumble and everyone's incredibly nice and funny, I literally lose my shit any time I play with the man eepily himself.

I made a small program that downloads the game server files using only the Steam Client that everyone has installed, as opposed to having to dick around in the terminal with SteamCMD. It also creates a script that you can just double-click to run the server, it doesn't contain any configuration but is easy to modify.
For now that's all it does, if it interests people I can also make it install/update Metamod/Sourcemod/MGE/SOAP, etc., I just haven't come around to doing that yet, unfortunately. For now I suggest you use https://cfg.tf/server/, that's pretty good.
