I'm right there with you owl, this is going to be my team's third season in open and if we get knocked out by invite players it would be very frustrating.
KoobadoobsckapI try to master engy, and I consider myself one of the better ones in my div, but I play soldier, scout, and pyro all at a pretty-close-to-high-silver level. I'd get bored if I only ever played one class.Koobadoobs I'm used to getting crap from 6s players for maining engy cause it's not a real class or something (also, do you guys only ever play your main or something? It's your MAIN. The one you MAINly play. Or you one of those "jack of all trades, master of none" sort of guys?
I guess I'm the only one who does that?
Listen koobadoobs, if you check their profiles, almost every invite player has about 5000 hours of in-game playing time, hours which include mastering different classes, practicing their DM, pubbing, 6v6 and 9v9 scrims and matches.
I mean no disrespect to you as what your skill level or experience is, but speaking as someone who isn't as good as any invite player at all, it is very very unlikely that everything that comes to you or me as "what would you naturally do to counter this" haven't already been thought of and tried by players that are competing to win prize money if they manage to actually counter the strategy.
GUYS, it's not quickfix or the heavy, ban gullywash pls
Honestly I've played open pugscrims more exciting than this lan's matches using quickfix. Quickfix is fun to play with and against it, and it adds another degree of strategy to the game, but not with what the invite teams are doing at lan right now. Running heavy and sniper to mid? seriously?.
The quickfix metagame works when both teams move quick and are constantly switching mediguns, planning what they're going to do next based on what the charges are at and what the other team is running. So that you can surprise the enemy team with kritz when they thought you were on quickfix, or stalemating only 8 seconds more making them think you're running quickfix when in fact you have uber, which can sitll be superior than quickfix when used correctly.
I'm more disappointed on the teams decision making and the way they're using quickfix this lan than the quickfix itself. Unfortunately, if it turns out to be true that YOU HAVE to run quickfix if the other team is running it and YOU HAVE to run heavy to counter it, then I guess there's no other choice than to ban it. But I still want to believe that teams have not yet learned how to succesfully break these stupid quickfix stalemates.
It's ok for invite players to measure each other's dicks and compete amongst them, but that doesn't change the facts.
If you do ask around almost everywhere outside of invite (which is just a small fraction of all of the competitive players) you will hear that b4nny is the best player in tf2, shade is the best medic, cyzer might or might not be the best scout and lansky is not likely the best pocket. And he didn't even mention that cyzer is the best scout rather that he has said so about himself. Also even though lansky might outdamage b4nny that doesn't mean that he is the best pocket, every experienced competitive player knows this, it's circumstantial.
To me this article didn't seemed biased at all and I rather felt like it pointed out what is obvious to expect from HRG going to lan.
edit: Terywj has been playing in esea at least for a year now to my little knowledge of him. He was also the author of several other articles from last season's lan teams that were positively criticized.
get well owl, see if you can get some internets at the hospital. hope to see you scrimming monday :)
MR_SLINThanks. I always appreciate constructive criticism. I'll be practicing and getting back into the swing of casting tonight on one of the Open playoff matches. Feel free to let me know what you think.
Slin, as long as you're taking constructive criticism I'd like to point out that you do a good job relating all of the action that is going on at all times and you provide good insight about the state and the pace of the game and the decision that the teams make, but when I watch you cast I get the feeling that you're always using the same plain tone of voice no matter how much action is happening, even when there are huge plays going on.
Most of the times when casting these big plays you mostly just talk louder, adding some connotation of importance to the situation, but I never feel the "WOAH!, Did that just happen?" that should come out of a caster when a game changing event happens.
That is like the thing that I can criticize about your casting.
Dear eXtv crew, I loved the documentary and I would donate towards the making of another one for i49 if you consider everything that could've been done better and that has been discussed in this thread.
give him a tryout, hooky's dm is pretty good
holy shit I clicked on the mentoring section instead of recruitment, IM SORRY. mana please save us ;_;
Hello tftv
We closed last season with a not good enough to make playoffs 9-7 record and decided to stick together for s15 because this videogame is fun.
So we're keeping the same roster but we'd like YOU fellow tf2er to be our backup. Any class, but hopefully some experience or skill.
Our lineup (http://play.esea.net/teams/70319):
Scout: alfunkso
Scout: CheesyMacgyver
Medic: Fred Astaire
Pocket: Fooby
Demo: StaleWaffle
Roamer: TheBurritoMan
Current backups/roster riders:
DK
Drake Megrim
Earshot
hooky
le0n
Cthulhu
Turin
allen
Biscuit
So add me on steam if you think that playing tf2, getting into playoffs and doing pugscrims are fun things to do. http://steamcommunity.com/id/alfunkso/
KickSnareHatwow by this thread you'd think that pyro mains would be helping to win ESEA 6s matches left and right and out-fragging their entire highlander teams
but wait
every stupid thing about pyro discussed in this thread considers encountering a pyro in a 1v1 situation. in a team fight, they have barely any use at all since they're only useful in ambushes. as we all know, 1v1s should be avoided in 6s. pyro ambushes would work once or twice in 6s by sneaking through some flank until in a close enough position to m1 like a motherfucker, and yet, as we all know too, flank is a concept that should always be watched so it's unlikely that a pyro could sneak through without a roamer and two scouts trying to stop him
a pocket pyro on the other hand might be somewhat viable according to grape's post in another thread
it's a close range class that only works close range, and once it gets to a close range with you, it's a very difficult class to beat. And even if you do win the fight, you will probably die of afterburn damage.
sixes classes can't fight them in a long-mid range because it will just airblast your rockets or stickies away or will laugh at your low damage scattergun shots.
it's valve's way to let low skilled players enjoy the game, just like engi.
