If you fuck up 2 pushes in a row on 5cp you probably lost as well (depending on severity of fuck ups). Of course its less significant when its b05 instead of b03 so 1 round isnt as important.
What if there was an a/d map designed so rounds were shorter so a best of 5 wouldn't be completely ridiculous? I also think the idea of a linear map would be a better setup, aka you have to cap a before b. and instead of spawn going to a and b, have a spawn going just to a, and when you cap a you get a forward spawn(somewhere around a) to attack b from, and again when you cap b.
A shorter setup time could also help with reducing turtling (not enough time for an engineer to build a level 3 at a)
I feel like one of the problems with gpit is that once you commit to a push you either win or lose your medic. If it were possible for the attacking medic to get back into spawn after a failed push(yeah yeah there's that clipping at a - good luck), the one failed push thing wouldn't be as detrimental (would lose less time).
ibexfrknis lakeside that shitty koth map with the huge staircases and the water???http://lmgtfy.com/?q=tf2+lakeside
you missed my point
is lakeside that shitty koth map with the huge staircases and the water???
VortexThe map involves a dedicated engineer/heavy on defense sitting around playing tower defense. How is that fun?
Well I don't play ng or heavy on gpit, maybe if I did I would feel differently.
marmadukeGRYLLSit's much worse than wiping on mid in a 5 cp map. you lost 1 round and can lose up to 3 more and still win. gpit you can only lose once.
so why the fuck would you want to play a map that has nothing to do with the current state of tf2? throw in "2 sniper shots can lose you the entire match" and you have the perfect argument against gpit.
The current state of tf2 is 6 5cp maps, 1 koth, and 1 A/D. So it doesn't have nothing to do with the current state of tf2.
Why do I want to play it? Because I have fun.
Point taken about it being bo3 instead it being bo5...but I would expect more 2-1's if the teams that were winning were just lucky and weren't actually better at gpit.
If 2 sniper clicks are a 100% win...why can't the other team just do the same thing better?
Why such hostility?
One mistake doesn't have to cost you the round. In one scrim we fucked up our defense bad and they capped C in like 2:50. We attacked and capped in about 2:40
It isn't much worse than wiping on mid with the other team keeping their medic up...you probably just lost the round with one bad mid
yukiNot only what I've said above, but it also doesn't help that, in general, it's fairly difficult to understand what's going on in TF2 when watching a pro game for the first time, especially the intricate things that happen during phase-play (timing by scouts to come in to help post uber, clutch uber flashes mid-fight, etc). Kinda harder to follow opposed to CS, where it's just 5 guys sitting around for half a game until one of them pushes, then it resets to the next round. To be fair, FPS's have pretty much gone out of favor, with the previous mention of CS:GO being the only notable exception.
Haha, I watch CSGO and don't understand. Eco rounds and money and when to buy what. Granted I've played 2 competitive matches, and watched maybe 2 youtube videos, but still.
I wouldn't mind scrimming gpit during the offseason, but scrimming gpit during the season at any time other than gpit week just isn't an efficient use of time. At least scrimming badlands during process week builds a lot of the same skills.
Summary: When it's not gpit week, I don't want to scrim gpit not because it's gpit, but because it won't make me significantly better at x other map.
Terywj I'm pretty sure Gravel Pit got voted out on the poll prior to this season's start but it was never actually removed.
I'm pretty sure no change won.
Should also note that I have UPNP enabled.
I got it to work by launching steam with the -tcp launch option.
I was playing fine and then my ping spiked from 60 to ~160. It was high for like a minute, varying rapidly between ~140-200 during that time, and then went back to normal. This is uncharacteristic of my ISP, normally the only time I spike is when somebody else is using the bandwidth, but nobody else was on the internet. Could this be a router problem (if so, what settings I should change)
I finally got around to setting up my new router (Asus RT-n66U) and it is working fine. Except I can't connect to steam community and get booted from servers because I can't connect to VAC or whatever. I've disabled my routers firewall and put all of the tf2/steam ports into portforwarding, but no luck.
Please help, I have a match at 11 tonight
As someone who used to hate gravelpit...I love it. It encourages a different kind of coordination and strategy and is very fun and exciting to watch (and to play IMO). And offclassing is fun
gravelpit first to 5 would be a nightmare...and i dont mind gpit
