It's really hard to avoid all spoilers to be able to be as excited about a post produced cast.

I agree that more post produced casts would be a good thing, but I do not think they should replace live casts in anyway. Perhaps eXtv could focus on post producing matches after the i46 documentary is finished. No doubt some cool features could be implemented for matches that aren't live (instant replay, post fight analysis, etc)

#28 What FPS should I play at with 60hz monitor? in TF2 General Discussion
ProtatoI don't get this thread.
If i'm right, a 60hz monitor refreshes 60 times every second, right? How are you guys able to tell if your frame rate drops from 130 to 70?
So I cap my fps at 61, because to me, there is no reason to play at anything higher than 60 fps.

If your pc is good, play at fps_max 241 or even 121 for a couple days, and then go back to fps_max 61. You will feel the difference.

#9 Fail at 120hz in Hardware

I agree; if you already have a 120Hz with low input lag, don't spend the money on 144Hz. Unless perhaps you want the monitor for lightboost.

Deepkuzajust having a medic puts TF2 200% more team oriented than any standard FPS.
Yeah, the problem with TF2 however and this seems to be certain maps as well, is that the game can get pretty stalematey. Especially maps like Gravelpit/Metalworks last etc. when it does get really slow, the commentators can run out of stuff to say and then just have to wait it out till someone makes a play. We need faster paced maps and perhaps a map that can be made with quicker respawn times that is 5cp as well, but gives the attacking team a nice advantage(outside of last).

I find that tf2 commentators do an outstanding job of filling the voids in gameplay with interesting commentary. I'm never bored when watching a tftv cast, even if it is an extremely boring match.

#11 What FPS should I play at with 60hz monitor? in TF2 General Discussion

As people have said, no cap is fine. If your framerate has huge drops you wan't to cap it close to your minimum, but if your pc is decent there really isn't much need.

I played at fps_max 121 for the longest time and when i switched to fps_max 0 it felt a lot smoother and had less tearing

#30 Razer Surround in Hardware
tornados2111After installing it I didn't notice that much of a difference except it made my audio around 2 or 3 times louder. After turning it off, my audio levels are still much higher (and no, it has nothing to do with the windows volume). This is really annoying because it put off my tf2 volume, youtube volume and all the programs I use for playing media. Anyone else get this problem? do I need to completely uninstall the program rather than shutting it down from the processes?

Try going to devices and disabling the razer one

right click on the audio thing in bottom right, playback devices, right click on the razer surround device and click disable. Uninstalling should work too

I messed around with it and am not a huge fan. The demo calibrating thing sounded pretty good but games didn't really get any better. Worth a shot though since it was free.

PermzillaThis broke Mumble 1.2.4 on Windows 8 for me by the way. I couldn't hear anyone speak. Uninstalling it solved the problem.

Did you change the playback device setting in mumble? You probably have to because of how the software works (installs a new "virtual" device).

Drewfrknconductor2 driver headphones with a not shitty soundstage can produce positional effects just fine

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IUDTlvagjJA
But that audio was created to sound 3D. The goal of virtual surround is to make what would be regular audio sound like that video does.

game developers could implement it directly into games if they wanted to, which would render this useless. The problem is, they haven't.
That's not how it works for Dolby surround and my G35's. It simulates a 7.1 channel sound system and plays sounds through what ever channels they would play if a true 7.1 setup was present.

The only way audio sources with less channels get up-scaled to 7.1 is if you use Windows's speaker fill enhancement.

You're right, I worded that wrong. If they took just plain stereo sound, there wouldn't be enough information for them to accurately place sound effects. So they take multi channel audio and use special algorithms to convert it to stereo while retaining directional cues.

Well this is not actually entirely true, because it stil applies effects to stereo sources, music for example. Though obviously this just created a larger soundstage (sounds like rubbish imo), it doesn;t actually provide any accurate directional info.
