AllealHoping this will finally push people to look at IP legalities because it's all fucked to hell and has been for years.
Hope Twitch takes a big hit for this.
Why do you hope Twitch takes a big hit? You should be hoping the RIAA does!
I found this to download VODs you don't have saved locally: http://www.twitchtools.com/video-download.php
It might work for muted VODs, if all that happens is the audio is muted and not deleted completely.
LKincheloehookyPeople blaming Twitch for this needs to understand that they're not doing this just because they hate people. They're doing this to protect themselves against the music industry, especially the RIAA. The RIAA doesn't understand the concept of free advertisement (most of the gaming industry does, however). It was inevitable that this was going to happen, and this is apparently the best they could do. It could have been much, much worse. I'm talking zero-tolerance policy worse.
Let's be honest, if the RIAA had it's way, we'd still be on vinyl records. They are THAT dense.
If the RIAA had its way, we'd still be in the 1950s technologically. And I'm not just talking about music.

I know there's already another thread about VODs, but I think this is major enough for another thread.
Twitch has put up a new blog post detailing how they will deal with copyrighted audio in streams: http://blog.twitch.tv/2014/08/3136/
Basically, you can stream music while broadcasting right now, but you're still liable. You just won't be as liable since most audio that would get you a DMCA violation would be muted.
The biggest issue I have with this is that if there's copyrighted audio detected, the 30-minute chunk it's in will be muted. The whole thing. So I was thinking that this could affect TFTV VODs because of the pre- and post-game music; if the cast happens to be in the same 30-minute chunk as the detected music, then part of the cast is lost.
Additionally, this part concerns me:
This includes in-game and ambient music.
I hope that means just licensed commercial music (Guitar Hero, Just Dance, DDR, etc.) and not music made for games.
Anyway, thoughts?
GetawhalehookyIt hasn't been officially announced yet, so I'd say it hasn't actually happened yet.
You're right, but given the very recent Twitch Live Annotations for YouTube feature, the closing of justin.tv, and the new "VIDEO MANAGER" link on Twitch's sidebar added just today (which is the same term YouTube uses) do we really have any reason to doubt the acquisition is coming anymore?
Not saying it's not happening, just that it hasn't happened yet. The guy I quoted said that Google already owned Twitch.
Once it happens, Google and Twitch should make a press release. Right now, it just seems like Twitch is trimming the fat and making the site more functional.
HedoKingogluThis thread is literally /b/-tier.
I'll contriboot anyway, use his e-mail to subscribe to gay porn websites. Give his telephone to shady advertisement people. This shit will drive him crazy.
Mr_Owlhomophobia isn't funny dude
VaskiehookyHopefully this is for the better. Maybe I'll actually use my worthless Youtube channel to export Twitch content no one cares about.
If they get bought by Youtube, there's really going to be no point in the VOD system as they could just link Twitch directly to Youtube so Twitch would be able to save VODs on Youtube.
As far as i know Google has already bought Twitch and this is the first measure since the merger. Google is one of the only companies that i trust so hopefully they will do well with Twitch.

SkrillionHey guys, i'm new here, found you all thanks to our search engine overlords.
I will be attending GXL in october. Already paid and registered.
I'm looking for a TF2 team to play with, and perhaps anyone else that's attending to practice/play with prior to the LAN.
RESUME:
I'm an expert at every class. But I play SOLDIER 90% of the time because it's been my jam since QWTF. Outside of soldier I've also won tournament matches mixing in HEAVY, SCOUT, ENGI
Play for fun nowadays, but would love to get back into some fun tourny action at the GXL.
Also been playing since Quake TF back in '97. I competitively played tournaments for Djedi, AM, UN, and [M]. And for those that remember the scene back then I was one of the few members of Paragon, so yeah, you're probably going to want me as soldier. =)
Hit me up on steam if you want to add me to your team, peace. usrname: Skrillion
Just so you know (I don't know if you've played TF2 competitively or had previous knowledge), competitive TF2 is completely different from QWTF, and even TFC. We currently play in a 6v6 format with 4 main classes: 1 medic, 1 demo, 2 scouts, 1 roaming soldier, and 1 pocket soldier. Any other class is only occasionally used (often in the case of sniper) by the scouts and roamer.
If you are new to comp TF2, I'd recommend trying out newbie mixes, which usually happen on Friday nights. Then you could try IRC pugs.
For the record, if you use a DVI to VGA adapter for a secondary monitor, it will only work in a DVI-I port. If there's only one and that one happens to be the only DVI port that can provide high refresh rates, then you'll need to use DisplayPort if your video card has it. If it doesn't, you'll probably need to ditch your secondary monitor.
I know this because my old video card had HDMI, DisplayPort, DVI-I Dual Link, and DVI-D Dual Link. The DVI-D didn't work correctly and wouldn't supply over 60Hz; my secondary monitor is a cheap and older LCD so it had VGA. I had to use my adapter in the DVI-I slot, which meant that I had to get a DisplayPort cable. Maybe my new card will be different.
KBlairhoolidoes this mean i can finally claim the username hooli?I had to e-mail Twitch support to get them to transfer my old justin.tv account to twitch, they did it in about a day.
nope
Pretty sure he's not talking about his account
hoolidoes this mean i can finally claim the username hooli?
nope
Request to transfer account must be received by Friday, September 5, 2014.
There is hope for us
Hergan5I'm not sure if I'm just dumb, but does justin.tv is the same thing as twitch.tv?
Twitch is basically what was once the gaming category of justin.tv.
