#2 internet problem in Hardware

Yes you can plugin a router to a DSL modem+router combo. Make sure to disable the NAT table on the AT&T modem+router combo.

Don't pick up a wrt54GL...it's horribly outdated in terms of hardware.

http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/ is a good review site. Their forums has some tech reps that hop in as well.

hmm...I thought uverse was all about fios, did they merge DSL into it too?

#15 Which soundcard should I get? in Hardware

Are you pro musician, needs top quality stuff or just a casual/competitive gamer? What do you intend to do with a soundcard?

You're still going to need good speakers/headphones to make use of a high quality soundcard....

#3 What's the best way to export a demo into a video? in TF2 General Discussion

basically....
[frame grabbing application] -> [intermediate format converter] -> [NLE] -> [Final render/export to another intermediate format and convert using something else]

my work flow
srcdemo -> Virtualdub ~> compress lagarith/wav -> edit in NLE ~> export lagarith/wav -> Virtualdub ~> compress using x264 cli/lame mp3 into mkv.

#20 a dumshit moment lately? in Off Topic
brownymasterBathtubI bought a high end graphics card and I was all happy about it and shit, then after around 2.5 months of using the computer I realized that the connection from the PSU to the card was loose. So basically I spent a while without the actual graphics card hooked up.Wouldn't that mean you had the monitor plug (DVI prob) into the onboard video?

Man this is a great technical embarrassment thread.

most modern video cards have a low power operational state, they can still run without a pci-e power cable plugged. But usually the driver should throw a message that you haven't plugged it in.

at least that was the case with my nvidia 7900gt

#15 a dumshit moment lately? in Off Topic

Thread goes into Off Topic...

I got cut 3 times, twice by the IO plate. Another by a heatsink fin.
Fried a PSU by plugging the PCI-E power to the 8pin V12 mobo port.. I also happened to have my head next to the machine as sparks few out (SCARY).
leaned over my aluminum case to access the rear ports...it got bent.

#6 resolution help in TF2 General Discussion

Tf2 and any other game @fullscreen, can only run the same resolution@refreshrate that windows(?) allows on the desktop.

You could just add to the EDID your resolution and refreshrate.
This might be of use. I used a program called CRU that created an entirely new EDID for the edited monitor...

If you have nvidia, you can rather use the driver software to create a new resolution.

Be aware that editing the EDID may damage your hardware, depending on the values!!!

This is 'overclocking' a monitor.

I think this goes into hardware?

#10 Virus/Trojan/Worm Help in Hardware

lol, mse.

make sure to get updates for java/flash/webbrowsers/windows patches after you think you're done. Good luck cleaning up the mess...Most scanners/removers always left some remnant of the virus. And with latest exploits in java, who knows what else might lurk in that machine [1][2].

Heck, I'd just format the damn machine.
Find Window 7 install media here
Use RT7lite to automate the key input, OEM keys need to be installed this way.

Create a disk image after installing all the drivers and use it as "formatting disk".
