#2 Hud breaks on round start/class change in Q/A Help

My hud disappears fairly frequently, however, toggling the scoreboard on/off or hud_reloadscheme usually fixes it, if not, recording a demo and then stopping it does. It's weird that your problem persists despite those...

When in doubt, verify?

Mine has been fine actually. I watch on high and every hour or two of watching i'll get a tiny bit of buffering, reloading fixes it for the next 2 hours or so. can watch on medium without buffering ever.

#4 Setting MvM-related stuff to "default" in huds in Customization

Most of the relevant files are in resource/ui and begin with "MVM". Those are pretty obvious. The others can be found with doodle's hud guide by ctrl + f-ing for 'mann', although it might be missing some.

#656 yahud in Customization

so i recently installed a custom background and realized (with warcloud's help) that yahud comes with a transparent image panel to make the main menu darker. i found that one and disabled it no problem, as well as the one when I'm first joining a server (and it says loading). however, when i get to the mapinfo screen the image gets darker so I'm pretty sure there's a background there. Only thing is, I've already set literally everything in mapinfomenu.res and statsummary.res that could possibly be making it darker to visible 0 AND moved it off the screen AND set fillcolor to "0 0 0 0". Is there another .res file that references that particular loading screen? I've already checked doodle's guide, but the only ones he mentions are the two I've already said and layeredmappanel.res and its variants, which aren't present in resource/ui. I'm stumped as to what it could be unless I'm just missing something obvious in mapinfomenu or statsummary.

mapinfomenu
statsummary

pictures of the same issue but with the main menu before i fixed it are available here, i can throw up some new pictures if you don't understand which specific loading screen I'm talking about or something.

EDIT: was fixed, i needed to set bgcolor to 0 0 0 0 in the very first parent element in statsummary.res.

#8 Disabling sound in Customization
Air_ replaces the audio of the end of round applause, the announcer, and the dominations with silence.

Can you show me where you found these or maybe throw up a dl link? all of those sound like things i'd like to remove from my game.

shocka1-snip-

I'm not sure why you're addressing me so abrasively and quoting snippets that make it seem that I disagree with you; I stated from the get-go I concur with you. However, I thought you didn't do his post justice. I still don't think you have. Philosophically, there is an argument against your "trust"; I outlined it above. Arguing semantics is quite silly but I'll humor you for a second here:

Trust: firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone or something [oxford]
Faith: complete trust or confidence in someone or something [oxford]

The point remains: Any belief you hold, philosophically, can be argued to be based off of a trust/assumption/faith you hold in your head.

As I stated before in my post (which you failed to quote), 'this argument cannot be used to argue for anything so it's probably irrelevant.'

This doesn't mean it doesn't deserve to be thought about; the way you devalued it in your first post didn't do it justice, that's all I said.

Not sure what you were trying to get across in your message, but at the end, what "basic assumptions are only supporting themselves" which I hold? I stated that what we label as "gravity" exists demonstrably, yet it is somehow an assumption?

I'm an atheist myself but I don't think you're doing Searchlight's point justice. His point is the only thing that really makes me question my atheism.

If I understand the point he's raising correctly then he's saying that all beliefs are based on faith. Your counter was that the scientific method is a way to validate our beliefs. The response would be well what justifies the scientific method? One might say that since the scientific method is simply observing what we can and recording/scrutinizing our observations, it's a good way to get at the truth. Well where's the justification for the idea that there even is such a thing as 'truth'? Another way of thinking about it is, what if, all of a sudden, gravity on earth ceased to function. Is this impossible? Even if we had conducted as many observations and experiments as we possibly could, we could still be missing something, right? For examples, while we observe gravity we remain ignorant as to how it actually interacts with matter and energy. Some postulate that is a form of electromagnetic radiation with an extremely long wavelength, but we simply do not know. So is it even that far fetched that we are missing something big, something fundamental? Even if we did everything we possibly could, let's even say we did infinite experiments (hypothetically), wouldn't there always be something we do not know? So can we ever really arrive at a 'truth'? Isn't there a limit to how accurate any model is? The Bohr model of an atom isn't truly accurate, anyone who took an advanced chemistry course in high school can tell you that. In truth, every model of a phenomena other than the occurrence itself leaves SOMETHING out, by definition, because it is not the original phenomena. So don't you need to take everything on faith; if nothing else, faith that truth exists?

It's a weird argument, and hard to counter. In the end, for me, I don't think that at this point in time you can use it as an argument for anything, so it's probably irrelevant. I believe it was Richard Dawkins who called it a "psychological red herring", and I think he was right. However, it could provide some credence to a model of the universe with some supernatural power. Like Marxist was saying, even most atheists look for some purpose or reason in life. Isn't that really nothing more than looking for a pattern? Isn't that what science itself is based off of? In that regard, if you subscribe to this line of thought, wouldn't a higher power seem to make sense, considering the amount of order we observe in the universe?

I'd rather trust in science too, but you can't deny this argument its complexity like that. It is rather compelling.

EDIT: For clarity's sake: what I call "faith" Searchlight called an assumption.

#6 Dark Main Menu in Customization

So yahud already makes it so the main menu only uses one background (the upward one). That's the crucial part. After you have that done, it's easy. I simply replaced background_upward.vtf and background_upward_widescreen.vtf (in materials/console) with my custom file.

#1 Dark Main Menu in Customization

I recently replaced my tf2 main menu background with a custom image. It works perfectly when I am first loading up the game; however, as soon as i get to the actual main menu the image gets significantly darker and kinda ugly imo. Is this a console command issue? I tried mat_monitor_gamma, didn't help. Should I edit the image to make it brighter in photoshop and then repackage the vtf?
This is obviously not a huge issue at all but I'm a little bit of a perfectionist in some ways and I also like to tinker with my hud so I'd like for this to work.

kalhoThere isn't any fgcolor.

Whoops. I haven't messed around with my scoreboard in a while and I disable the background anyway so I wasn't sure. My bad on that one. Try changing "fillcolor" in "Scoreboardbackground"? You could also add "fillcolor" to "MainBG" to see which one it is. Regardless; the main idea is to change "fillcolor" (not fgcolor, my bad :P) under one of these elements, I don't know off of the top of my head which. If you experiment you should be able to find which. Or, you can wait until I'm done with classes and sports and I can do it for you if you upload your scoreboard.res for me to take a peek at.
