#12 BenQ xl2411t which cables for 120hz? in Hardware

Your HDMI port needs to be 1.4a/b or better as well as the cable. 120hz is a huge difference from 60hz. Signal converters will not work at 120hz.

#89 rip invite in TF2 General Discussion

I don't like invite teams asking for donations for LAN. If you aren't able to get yourself to LAN, you probably shouldn't be playing in a division that has LAN finals.

Having said that, earlier fund-raising would only be possible for the teams who are essentially guaranteed spots at LAN. The real LAN benefit would be knowing the date of LAN at the start of the season or at least by week 4. When a team gets a spot locked, they should be able to purchase tickets right away to minimize cost.

Oov, $1500 is still only enough to get by if several criteria are met.
1. ESEA releases LAN schedule relatively early.
2. Team locks LAN spot early enough to get decent ticket prices. This one's rough because the last spot sometimes goes down to the wire.
3. LAN doesn't fall on abnormally expensive weekend.
4. Team has no Canadians or other unusually expensive travel costs.

Last season, my plane ticket from St. Louis to Dallas was over $400. Even if all six players are in the same time zone as the LAN, that would still be $2400 and then an additional $300-500 for hotel rooms.

My ticket was unusually expensive and is normally around $230, but it's pretty difficult to fly 6 people to Dallas, book them hotel rooms for 2-3 nights, pay for meals, pay for transportation to/from airport, and still break even unless you take first or second place. A Canadian would be hard-pressed to break even taking first place.

#243 huh check that out in TF2 General Discussion
DavyC In the end: If 12 people can't find 1 hour out of 168 to play videogames when they know eachothers schedule literally the whole season, not only are they lazy and dumb as fuck, but should probably learn how a competitive, scheduled arrangement works.

No exceptions.

You lost the ability to call someone 'lazy and dumb as fuck' when you were either too lazy or too dumb to separate "at least", "video games", and "each other's" with spaces. Grammar aside, that is still one of the dumbest things I've ever read.

DavyC"In reality" is already assuming that we ought to keep the system the same, makes no sense to me why 3 days are excluded entirely out of question of matchtime, or why you cant stay up late if something like lan is important to you. Evidently you have fewer than 168 hours to operate but if you are dedicating to invite one would hope you have at least more than 8 rofl.

It doesn't matter how "important LAN is to you". TF2 is a hobby. With the exception of a select few, nobody is going to eviscerate their actual lives to schedule a game. Teams don't play on Friday or Saturday nights. Matches have and do happen on Mondays when that's the only time in the week that works for everybody--it's just not preferred. At the end of the day, invite consists of regular people with regular lives who aren't going to throw away their grades or careers just to meet a deadline for ESEA. It's an invite league with a higher cost of joining than the lower leagues. It's a "more prestigious" division, according to ESEA. ESEA appropriates penalty fees for unprofessionalism and other things. Those are enough for circumstantial treatment, in my opinion.

I do think that ESEA should allow an unpaid backup in invite and perhaps in all divisions. If your roster has 6 paid, you should be able to have a 7th player who is a backup that can play in any match without paying league fees. He is taking the place of a paid player, after all. Almost every time there is a scheduling issue in invite, it's because the teams don't want their backup to be forced to shell out $60 to play a single match.

#198 huh check that out in TF2 General Discussion

I think it's important to understand both sides of something before appropriating blame, and I think the last page of posts has accomplished that task.

I don't think anyone (Kalkin included) would disagree with the assessment that ESEA has had some major problems in the past and that we are little more than a small business venture for them. They are not in the business of political correctness and they're not in the business of going above and beyond what their business model projects--they may even go under that model if you consider the fact that their own client issues and various other things result in end-users paying for extra months of premium at times.

ESEA is not the best league we could possibly have. You know it, I know it, and ESEA knows it. They are the most established league available and that creates a sort of monopoly for NA TF2. ESEA is not particularly pressured to give us a better product because there is nobody else offering us a better product with whom ESEA should compete.

Many people say, "Boycott ESEA!"

Maybe that would help us in the long run, but it would likely kill high-level TF2 for quite some time in the process. Most of the upper invite players keep playing because they enjoy hanging out with the others at LAN. If ESEA drops TF2 or if TF2 drops ESEA, there would need to be a seasonal LAN offered by whichever league takes ESEA's place. If there were no LAN, many of the upper level players would quit playing.

ESEA is flawed. We know this. We know that ESEA does not jump through hoops to please us or to rectify issues. It is far from a perfect system, but it is a [usually] functional system.

I have seen both sides of the story. I understand what happened.

ESEA receives hundreds of tickets regarding E-checks. Perhaps they should have an automated reply to these types of tickets stating that they must wait x number of days before anything can be done with their e-check. Maybe if there are hundreds of tickets per season regarding e-checks, ESEA should work with PayPal to automatically decline e-checks. Maybe someone other than Craig should handle cancellations or maybe there should be a cancellation form on the website that, when filled out, triggers an automated cancellation.

I don't have the perfect solution for this problem, but after this many seasons, ESEA should. Who knows, maybe a perfect solution isn't possible with PayPal.

I want to blame ESEA. I really would prefer to pass the blame off to the company who took 4+ days to respond to a ticket that should have had some type of automated response.

The problem is, I don't think this is ESEA's fault at all. I like everyone on 'watch this'. They're fun to PUG with, and all of those I've met have been great in person. Unfortunately, at some point, you just have to sit back, admit you screwed up, and take the blame for your own mistakes. If your mistake means that you have to pay a second time and hope to get a refund or risk not being paid up in time, that is ultimately your responsibility. If you withhold your utilities payment for too long, then send a check at the last second, is the water company in the wrong for shutting you off while they are waiting to receive your past-due payment?

It ultimately boils down to this:

1. ESEA has always had a system in place where your team's spot is reserved when you have enough players paid by the end of registration. I'm not sure why teams have been slipping through this crack--maybe it's just to keep more teams in the league--but this is reason #1 why players should have been paid on time.

2. Registration opened on Aug. 13th and the first week of matches was scheduled to begin on Sep. 22nd initially. Registration was eventually extended until Sep. 30th, meaning there were 62 days between when registration opened and the first match week.

3. There is a warning on ESEA's payment page about e-checks. There is a warning in ESEA's FAQ about e-checks. ESEA's FAQ explicitly details how you can be sure you are not paying via e-check. To anyone who is concerned about their payment going through in time, this means you should be extremely careful and ensure that you are not paying by e-check.

The payments that did not go through were not submitted until at least 10 days past the end of registration. The people submitting those payments did not ensure that they were submitting instant payments rather than e-checks. An e-check is known to take upwards of 5 business days to clear, but the e-checks in question were submitted less than 5 days prior to the first match.

The TF2 community has been revered again and again for its generosity. If the reason for the delay was a lack of available funds that couldn't be resolved in the 50+ days that passed after registration opened, I have no doubt that someone would have loaned or given the money necessary to cover the unpaid players.

I'll say it again. I really want to blame ESEA, but this is not their fault in any way.

#4 Gaming router? in Hardware

ASUS routers are good. If you want to take the time to manually configure QoS, any router compatible with DD-WRT or Tomato firmware can be an excellent choice. I've had multiple ASUS RT-N16s functioning for several years running Tomato without any trouble. I had an N56u, but it did not support tomato, so I replaced it.

I recommended you the D-Link routers because they have QoS preconfigured for gaming, but really, any router with QoS capabilities should be adequate for you.

#6 Another mousepad thread in Hardware

i'm going to help you out and open your eyes

the differences in various mousepads are 99% placebo. sure, there is a very real difference between the feel of a hard pad and the feel of a soft pad. there are also some mousepads that just don't work well for certain types of sensors, but are you going to notice the difference between a puretrak and a $5 supermat from staples in terms of playing? possible, but very doubtful.

there are some things that will definitely help improve your game. 120hz monitors, computers capable of getting 120 fps, etc. then there are things that are purely preferential and placebo at best, like configs, mouse sensitivities, high dpi mice, mousepads, keyboards, etc., etc., etc.

gather all your parts and return them.

go to www.ibuypower.com and buy a computer. seeing as you aren't even capable of utilizing google to do research on your seemingly limitless number of problems, you clearly are incapable of building a computer yourself.

#15 g400 Freeze (Not complete) in Hardware
WaldoI bought a g400 when I saw hooli's post about how they were ultra-cheap.
Basically since I plugged it in, It's been occasionally freezing, though not in the complete way it seems to happen to everyone else, more of a sudden, really low sensitivity. Also, Windows doesn't beep, or give me any popups about it being unplugged/plugged back in. I've tried changing polling rates/DPI, no luck. I've reinstalled drivers, tried both USB 2.0 and 3.0, and tried it with my old, crappy-as-hell unnamed korean brand mouse, which still tracks fine. Anyone who knows how to fix this/is better at searching various forums then me?

This is why I steer clear of refurbs. They're incredibly hit or miss and frequently don't carry a warranty. There are tons of different refurbishment policies, but most of the time, companies are selling a combination of items that were once broken as well as items that were returned for pretty much any reason. If person x returned the mouse because it was randomly disconnecting and the 'refurb facility' couldn't reproduce the issue, they may repackage it and sell it as refurbished even though the problem was never fixed. Sure, there are the lucky few who buy a laptop 'refurb' and it ends up being a machine that someone returned because they didn't like the touchpad or something else minor, but there's a very high number of broken refurb items from most companies.

It sucks that you received a bad one. You should still probably call Logitech and ask if it's covered.

#224 Why do so many people bash 9v9? in TF2 General Discussion
LKincheloeNot my point, does having a financial risk/reward (i.e. an opportunity to make more than you put into it to play), irregardless of actually making a living off of it as you inferred, change the way people approach the game?

base: regard
verb - care or concern for someone or something
prefix: ir
prefix - not / non / [the opposite of]
suffix: less
adjective suffix - without / lacking / inability to be performed

base + suffix: regardless
adverb - in spite of everything / without paying attention to the situation / without regard / having a lack of regard

prefix + base + suffix: irregardless
stupid/non-word despite the stupid people who added it to the dictionary
not lacking care or concern for someone or something
not without regard

not + without + regard = with regard
since 'irregardless' in the OP context is a preposition, we need a preposition for comparison. therefore,
irregardless = regarding

so the quote is effectively:

LKincheloeNot my point, does having a financial risk/reward (i.e. an opportunity to make more than you put into it to play), regarding of actually making a living off of it as you inferred, change the way people approach the game?

tl;dr

I don't care what stupid dictionary you cite, you can't take a word with a suffix that means 'the opposite of', add a prefix that means 'the opposite of', and end up with a word synonymous with the original word. Adding two negatives doesn't end with a positive in math and they don't end with a positive in English, either. Anyone who disagrees with this concept, frankly, can't not be irretardless.

#9 Weird graphics card issue. help! in Hardware

It could be a power issue... You could try setting speeds manually to see if you can trigger or eliminate the freeze, but a more likely culprit is bad VRAM. I've seen weird things like this happen a bunch. I'd RMA the card and see if a replacement fixes things.

#10 SSD Question in Hardware

If you're running Windows 7, your partition is already aligned, so it doesn't matter if you do a fresh install to an SSD or if you just migrate your current install. Dozens of utilities are available for this--Acronis, clonedisk, etc. Fresh installs are definitely easier, so I'd go that route unless you just really prefer to keep your existing install.

If your case doesn't have an SSD mount, search for 'ocz ssd bracket' or 'mushkin ssd bracket' on newegg/amazon. They should be around $5.
