#25 Colorblindness in Customization
RenhetI don't think it's something to pity. Ellie_Goulding said it doesn't bother them, and many people live normal lives with it. They might do things differently and have warranted complaints about TF2's colorblind mode, but yeah. Monochromatic Bunny said it something like, he doesn't know any different, so what is there to miss?

This is mostly true. I don't even think about it other than when playing games that require me to see certain things. I would not have made a fantastic warrior in WW2... I can't tell blue from gray in most cases.

There are a few instances in real life where it is a huge issue...namely electrical wires and traffic lights. Orange and red lights are impossible to tell apart, and green isn't far behind. If all traffic lights were the same, it'd be easy enough, but there are many times where I have to just assume it's red and go by the traffic surrounding me. I do get honked at frequently in smaller cities when people can't go around me when I stop at greens... :|

Moose was telling me about some new lights that are just one light that changes colors instead of 3 separate lights. Whoever designed that is an idiot and I hope they don't become mainstream.

In TF2, I primarily just look at what someone's doing to determine whether they're friendly or not. If playing demo, I detonate traps on teammates waaaay too much. There are certain hat effects that make it virtually impossible for me to tell whether a person is a teammate or not and other effects seem to make people essentially invisible to me. It's bizarre, and it's just an effect caused by the hat stealing my focus, but it's unavoidable and reeeeeeeallllllly annoying.

#255 mge alts eXposed in TF2 General Discussion

Complaining that someone is jumping/surfing/counterjumping/shotgun denying/using stickies is ignorant. I don't play MGE, but if I did, I would use whatever tactic is most annoying to the other player, because everyone in MGE is apparently a panty-bunched pansy.

You're all proclaiming you play MGE to get better, so maybe you should utilize those opportunities to beat the tactics being used against you. If you think good players in 6v6 don't use those tactics and it's pointless to practice them, you are sorely mistaken.

That being said, MGE is dumb.

#5 Mumble not staying on second monitor in Off Topic

I guess I don't understand what you're saying in post #3. It seemed like you were saying potential fix #1 worked for you. Why are you maximizing mumble?

I don't have any other things to try. I have intentionally steered clear of Windows 8 because it has a million oddities that are brand new to it.

#52 Learning to type in Off Topic

Maybe we should all just get another keyboard, configure it for dvorak or colemak, and go all out on learning something better. I love the dvorak layout on my phone.

#51 Learning to type in Off Topic

I tend to disagree with many of these posts. I type incorrectly-- I use my left hand on caps lock, a, s, d. I use my left pinky for almost nothing except tab, caps lock, shift, and ctrl. My right hand is primarily just my index finger flying around with a few other fingers thrown in the mix randomly if I have to press multiple right-hand keys in a row. I still type around 110 WPM. Typing 'correctly' is not really important as long as you develop the proper muscle memory to type in whatever way you want.

Having said that, I will say that programming does require you to type tons of otherwise abnormal key combinations (primarily symbols like parenthesis, etc). If you are not comfortable hitting those keys without looking at the keyboard, typing your way will be a chore when programming.

#2 Mumble not staying on second monitor in Off Topic

There are applications that will force certain windows to automatically move where you want them as they open. There are also a few tricks you can employ to get Windows to do this for you. They are not very reliable, but I have seen each of these work in different instances. Mumble opens on the correct monitor for me, so it's not a case of "Mumble 1.2.4 is hard-coded to open on the primary monitor". Give these a try and see if they work for you... Note that these are separate solutions rather than steps to a single solution.

1. Open mumble, drag it where you want it, then re-size it both horizontally and vertically. The re-size can be only a few pixels, and you can set it back to its original size afterward, but sometimes Windows won't save window location unless the window gets re-sized for some reason.

2. Drag mumble where you want it, hold CTRL and click the close button. Re-open it and hope for the best.

3. Go to display properties and look at the alignment of your monitors. Make one of the monitors appear slightly higher than the other and apply the changes. Try to move and close mumble again.

#6 does anyone know anything about blood clots? in Off Topic

It's really hard to say much without knowing a better history of the patient. Anyone other than the attending physician would be purely speculating. I have seen cases where a pulmonary embolism patient dies within minutes or hours as well as cases where thrombolytic therapy resolves the issue and the patient goes home within a few days.

The most important thing is to listen to the attending physician and follow his/her recommendations once your brother leaves the hospital. If this was in relation to fatty foods, he will need to change his diet immediately, etc.

It sounds like he's in good hands, so I wouldn't worry too terribly much. Undiagnosed, the mortality rate for this type of thing is somewhere around 30%, but thrombolytic therapy reduces that to somewhere around 5%.

Knowing nothing more about the case, I'd say his chances are pretty good. Good luck.

#3 Win7 lock screen question. in Off Topic

There is a nice freeware utility that helps with this. It is called clearlock. It locks the PC without hiding the desktop. It's not as secure as Win+L, and you can probably kill it with task manager, so it may not suit your needs at a LAN.

I'm pretty sure there are also some registry edits/group policy changes that can be made to accomplish what you want, but I don't know for sure.

#5 Computer thinks it's in 32 bit? in Hardware

64bit applications won't launch on a 32bit OS. The "blah is not a valid Win32 application" is a dead giveaway that you're likely running a 64bit executable on a 32bit OS.

If you are absolutely certain that you're on a 64bit OS, the file is likely corrupt as stated before.

#11 Azio Levetron Clicker Mechanical Keyboard? in Hardware
WaldosmakersALPs switches are just as good as Cherry MX. Blackwidow keyboards are not good.Blackwidow keyboards are overpriced, not necessarily bad. While there are better alternatives, it's still a fully functional mechanical keyboard, the legacy drivers are actually quite nice.

Go use one for a year, watch the keycaps degrade to the point that the backlighting shines through the entire keycap, effectively eliminating the ability to read the lettering, and then tell me they're not bad. They have a host of problems that any $100+ mechanical keyboard should not have. The spacebar is just weird, too.

I will agree that ALPs, Topres, and buckling springs are better, but that's just opinion really.

#5 Projector keyboard/mouse in Hardware

I haven't used that particular brand, but I did use one very similar. It was just a keyboard, but it worked surprisingly well. It requires very obvious "presses", which makes it more like typing on a paper-thin typewriter than any regular keyboard, but it works well in a pinch.

Too expensive though.
