I'm 90% sure they're shipping the steampipe beta hammer with the release game now.
I think it's naive to assume that they must directly make money off of competitive players for it to be worth their effort. I mean, buying tickets to directly watch comp in Dota 2 was a brilliant idea, but it's all up to tourneys to work in that system if they put it there. They're not going to turn around and say "You can't watch tourney STVs yourself anymore, you have to buy a ticket"; they're gonna be like "You can ". And then you could have sponsors come in and be like, "Hey Valve take this money and make this tourney free to watch, let people know that it's on us!"
This is just an example, anyways, and it's not perfect. It's just that there are a million other ways to monetize off a competitive game than having individual players spend money on it for comp. The imbalance between what comp and pub players use is something they're seriously looking at solving in the first place, so don't go running around saying that "we don't even use the weapons they sell" crap.
I like it how viaduct's biggest problems were literally fixed by opening a hole in it.
That's fucking hilarious.
All we have to do for valve to figure out how to support 6s is break up the metagame in an abstract and fundamental way.
You always have a medic and a pocket, no matter what the format is. You usually have a combo assist, a passive player, and a flank player, and then a roamer. In order, those spots happen to be filled in 6s by... Medic, soldier, demoman, scout, scout, soldier. In HL, they're filled mainly by medic, heavy, demoman, pyro/soldier, scout/pyro, soldier/scout, with some overlap and weird dynamicism and other pseudo niches going on. If you tell valve, hey, these are the roles we have going on and this is how people play our game and this is what classes people pick to fill these important roles, that's going to spark a lot more important internal discussion for them than saying "we play these classes with these items on these maps and it's just how it's done". Even if what we come up with isn't perfectly accurate it's still a hell of a lot better of a start because it gets the conversation rolling in a more useful way.
have fun with getting sub-frame perfect timing for every jump when you're not just defragging
#4: That just shows dedication to the game
#173:
I think they mean "pyro mains/specialists" instead of "people who are good at pyro or play them enough"
picmip is all about vram
if your card's vram can't handle picmip 2 (which should take up an eighth of the space of picmip -1) without shitting your framerate you REALLY need a new card one way or another
I've had a craving to play TF2 in unusual formats since the last time I stopped playing the game very much. I want to do stuff like 4v4 CTF, trying 8v8 again, having messed up classlimits like prolander or banning medic/demo/engie, in a competitive environment where everyone's in on the "joke". Are any private PUG groups doing stuff like this right now? If not, is this something people are interested in?
low/mid scout/roamer/pyro/spy
>The only map on there that has any type of competitive crossover is badwater.
What about turbine???
On a side note I must've put like 1k hours into 24/7 2fort classic servers, I even made a new version of the map for one of them and finished it a couple days ago
We don't need to change 6s.
We don't need to chase some fleeting ideal game that it's too little too late to be.
We need to make what we already have more dynamic in its meta, exactly because the little it has is what that sets TF2 apart from other FPSs, we don't have the exact magic that makes Quake what it is and we don't match up with any of the other FPS niches either. I'm not saying woooah let's bring spies to mid, I'm saying let's take a real good look at what we've gotten ourselves into and figure out what parts are REALLY our fault and what's just circumstantial because of the game.
6s is going to change, but the way I see it, that just means that we're going to have Brand New things going on instead rather arbitrary stuff people want to come up with like "Pyro to mid" or "take out spy when you already have an advantage". I'm talking: Let's see heavies get an unlock that lets them work on the flank but hurts their turtling strengths. Let's see the gas jockey set unbanned so that we have a fatscout with a flamethrower. Let's give spy a way to save themselves after they backstab the pocket soldier.
I remember watching a top level 6s stream and someone was playing spy and 1v1d a scout: that was sick! With the stuff we don't have any control over that we ignore because it's not good enough, let's figure out how we can make new and interesting things happen without fucking over the "main" game. I want to see engineers go out on the flank and hide sentries where they completely fuck over a push. I want to see demomen divebomb more than just when their team is otherwise screwed. I want to see pyros screwing up more shit in messy chokepoints.
Don't fuck with hue or saturation, just do a gentle contrast thing (per RGB channel, not on luminosity!) with curves like #3 said. This is what I do with paint.net:

bottom: clean (hopefully)
middle: luminosity
top: per channel
doing it per rgb channel thing changes the saturation along with the luminosity, but it's foolproof and impossible to fuck up with overtweaking (orange gullywash anyone?) and has a really nice dynamic effect so that it only happens to affect important colors

"Play your favorite classes with friends and strangers in a friendly competitive environment"
6s tagline:
"Play like the pros in the most fast paced and focused format the game has ever seen"
