#1 CS:GO update for 8/17/21 (8/18/21 UTC, 1.38.0.0) in CS2 General Discussion

Via the CS:GO blog:

Valve[ UI ]
– Added 2-letter region codes to Looking to Play, Invites, and Watch Events panels.
– Added 2-letter language codes to Watch Stream panel.

Rumor has it:

- /u/OrelStealth has taken a quick screenshot showing how the language and region codes are implemented in both sets of panels:

https://i.imgur.com/2kuXYwF.jpeg

- Flag images have been given a new directory ("regions" as opposed to "flags") in the game's VPK structure, and duplicate flags left over from when Autodesk's Scaleform was the UI system being used have been purged

- A few adaptations have been made for the Chinese version of the game when under Perfect World/Steam China influence, including slightly different site signs for Mirage, and the removal of skulls from the covers of the Death's Head Demolition (see original here) and Astro Bellum music kits

- Music kit names and descriptions from the previous update, along with a few other unrelated strings here and there have been translated into many different languages, made possible through the efforts of Translators Like You - Thank You

- Translators, if you want a sneak peek at what Valve *will* and *won't* ask you to translate into native languages, it's all clearly laid out in csgo_english here

#1 CS:GO update for 8/12/21 (8/13/21 UTC, 1.37.9.9) in CS2 General Discussion

Via the CS:GO blog:

Valve[MUSIC KITS]
– Added the “Tacticians” Music Kit Box, available in regular and StatTrak™ variants, featuring 6 new music kits:
—- Austin Wintory, Mocha Petal
—- Chipzel, ~Yellow Magic~
—- Freaky DNA, Vici
—- Jesse Harlin, Astro Bellum
—- Laura Shigihara: Work Hard, Play Hard
—- Sarah Schachner, KOLIBRI

[MISC]
– Added a designation of bombsite A and B to game events generated when player begins to plant the bomb and finishes planting the bomb.

Rumor has it:

- Descriptions for each music kit are as follows:
- Austin Wintory, Mocha Petal: "Austin Wintory answers the question humanity has asked for ages: what happens if you merge beer garden accordion polka music with grungy heavy metal?"
- Chipzel, ~Yellow Magic~: "Video game composer and chiptune legend Chipzel brings a glitchy Speak & Spell inspired mashup of hybrid styles packed with fun, funk and flavour."
- Freaky DNA, Vici: "Opera. 8-bit sounds. Analogue synths. What's not to love? Chiptune specialist Freaky DNA and soprano Leanne Koch team up for some heavy beats and good times!"
- Jesse Harlin, Astro Bellum: "Composer Jesse Harlin delivers bombastic space opera drama inspired by classic sci-fi of the 70s, 80s, and beyond."
- Laura Shigihara: Work Hard, Play Hard: "Video game composer and developer Laura Shigihara will help you tell everyone loudly and proudly that you're the MVP. Have fun with this unique blend of 90s dance, retro video game synth, and just a hint of Plants vs. Zombies."
- Sarah Schachner, KOLIBRI: "Brought to you by Sarah Schachner, a dystopian goth choir of self-aware, Scandinavian robots decide that humanity must be eliminated."

- If you want to preview these music kits before choosing which one to buy, CS:GO Stash has put them all up for your convenience

- You can view all of the script additions/modifications to hook these kits up, item schema changes to make these kits items, inventory images, and a light touch of localization (made possible by Translators Like You - Thank You) over here

- Size is ~115 MB

#1 CS:GO update for 7/21/21 (7/22/21 UTC, 1.37.9.6) in CS2 General Discussion

Via the CS:GO blog:

Valve[Dreams & Nightmares]

[Matchmaking]
– Players that receive unusually high amounts of griefing reports will get a warning, followed by escalating competitive cooldowns.

[Maps]
– Pitstop
— Patched hole in clipping on upper balcony.
— Improved skybox and fog.
— Fixed broken collision model on bombsite tent.
— Removed pixel walk on outside box.
— Added dev texture.

– Mocha
— Several windows opened in B site to allow for grenade throws.

— Foliage platform above the A site plant zone is no longer clipped.
— Truck near B site is no longer clipped.
— Geometry adjusted to fix an angle from T side into CT side of Middle.
— Minor clipping and optimization improvements.
— Fixed multiple bomb stuck spots.

Rumor has it:

- Pitstop now has a new load screen background which can be viewed and compared between here

- Warnings for excessive griefing reports will read as follows: "You have been receiving significantly more griefing abuse reports than most players. If this continues you will receive a matchmaking cooldown penalty."

- Beyond those two extras, the only other extra thing is another assortment of translations, made possible through the efforts of Translators Like You - Thank You

- Size is close to 100 MB

#1 CS:GO Blog: Dreams & Nightmares Workshop Contest in CS2 General Discussion

https://blog.counter-strike.net/index.php/2021/07/34777/

CS:GO TeamOn July 22nd we are launching the $1 Million Dreams & Nightmares Workshop Contest.

We are looking for 10 original dream or nightmare-themed weapon finishes for CS:GO. Each of the 10 winning entries will earn $100,000. Beyond submitting your original weapon finish to the CS:GO Workshop, all you need to enter is a non-limited Steam account. And yes, teams of more than one person can also enter.

To help content creators get a better feel for what we’re looking for we’ve launched a dedicated web site for the contest. Here you will find more info on the types of finishes we’re looking for, examples of the Dreams & Nightmares theme, info on how to enter, details of the contest, and more. We’ve also created a sub forum in CS:GO’s Discussions for artists, technical artists, and others to collaborate on contest-themed submissions and ideas.

We launched the Workshop on Steam almost 10 years ago in the hopes of creating a centralized hub for community created content. Since then, over five million content creators have submitted and published over 20 million new items for a variety of games on Steam, making them available for purchase to millions of gamers around the world. And, as everyone who plays these games knows – including CS players – many of the most iconic in-game items, maps, and more have been authored by members of the community. The Dreams & Nightmares Content Contest is designed to help further support this community.

If you have any questions or comments about the contest, please email us at csgoteamfeedback@valvesoftware.com using the subject “Dreams & Nightmares.”

#1 CS:GO update for 7/6/21 (7/7/21 UTC, 1.37.9.5) in CS2 General Discussion

Via the CS:GO blog:

Valve[ MATCHMAKING ]
– Premier matchmaking can now be selected together with other competitive maps.
– Added competitive matchmaking presets and ability to save/load favorite map selections.
– Added a link to CS:GO Fair Play Guidelines when playing on official game servers.

[ MISC ]
– Bullet penetration check will ignore the firing player model entirely.
– Fixed bot difficulty selector to correctly apply for offline with bots War Games matches.
– Stability improvements.

Rumor has it:

- With the newly added abilities to save & reload map selections/presets (which TF2 players may find familiar with its Casual mode) and queueing for both Premier mode and standard mode, the Competitive map selection UI has been given a bit of a refresh of sorts:

https://i.imgur.com/RnQA93Z.png

- Available presets aside from Your Favorites include Premier, Active Duty, Hostage, and New

- The link to the Fair Play Guidelines (which you were probably abiding by before it was written down) takes the form of a disclaimer under the match ready popup. Note that clicking on it to view the FPG will open your system default web browser, as opposed to taking you to the Steam Community overlay

- Alongside the gamemodes.txt changes necessary to make queueing for both Premier mode and standard mode possible, you'll also find several new translations which are made possible in part by contributions from Translators Like You - Thank You

justjazzI wonder what “numerous security and stability improvements” entails

Most likely addressing The Secret Club's public disclosures after being stonewalled. Yeah, it's been that long.

#1 TF2 update for 6/22/21 in TF2 General Discussion

Via the Steam store and HLDS:

Valve- Added the Summer 2021 Cosmetic Case
- Contains 18 new community-contributed items
- Adds 6 new community-created Unusual effects
- Numerous security and stability improvements
- Added a cooldown before a player can create a vote when they join a match already in-progress
- sv_vote_late_join_time controls the grace period after the match starts before the cooldown is applied: default 90 secs
- sv_vote_late_join_cooldown controls the length of the cooldown: default 5 min
- Kick votes will end early and automatically pass if the vote target leaves the match during the vote
- Added a ConVar to control players changing their name during a match
- tf_allow_player_name_change: default is 1
- Matchmaking servers will set this to 0
- Updated the player list in the vote-kick dialog to show the time each player has been connected to the server
- Removed the disconnect reason from the message when players leave the server
- Updated the Mann vs. Machine "inspect" command to only work for players in your party or in your Friends list
- Moved materials for the community particle effects into the Effects/workshop sub-folder to distinguish them from Valve materials
- Updated/Added some tournament medals
- Updated the localization files
- Updated cp_snakewater_final1
- Fixed clipping throughout map
- Fixed explosion splash being caught by objects throughout map
- Made movement smoother throughout map
- Reworked some problematic areas like the kitchen
- Minor visual enhancements throughout the map
- Updated cp_process
- Fixed incorrect skin for the Red radio tower

Rumor has it:

- /u/Serird has put together a listing of the contents of the Summer 2021 Cosmetic Case (and Unusual effects), complete with Steam Workshop links to pass some applause on to item/effect creators that made it in the case

- Community server operators have noticed that a 64 MB cap on custom downloadable content has been implemented, including to maps served through FastDL. While it's possible this may be part of the "numerous security and stability improvements", it appears that it may not be entirely intentional as Eric Smith has sent a follow-up message to the HLDS list stating that Valve is "looking into the reports" of clients being unable to download larger maps
- This has been fixed in update #2

- Because there are now multiple ways you could be prevented from calling a vote to kick, strings will no longer be specific as to the cause (previously, it would've been only for having called another vote recently)

- The new cluster has been up for a couple of months already, but seeing as it only just now got its string it's worth mentioning anyway: the EU West server cluster (as it's known in Dota 2 and CS:GO) has been relocated from Luxembourg to Frankfurt, Germany

- For a complete listing of today's tournament medal additions and updates, please click on https://www.teamfortress.tv/post/1040146/tf2-update-for-6-22-21 due to character limit reasons

- This update's arrival brings an end to another record-shattering drought that lasted just a few days short of 4 months, or more specifically, 112 days without an update, with the last one having occurred on 3/2/21
- This update is just the 3rd to happen so far in 2021, which itself is almost halfway done. By this point of the year last year, the game had 5 updates by the same day of the 2020 calendar year (which became 6 a couple of days later on 6/24/20)
- The previous all-time record drought was a stretch of 80 days in a similar timeframe last year, from 1/18/20 to 4/7/20 (4/8/20 UTC)
- Before that, the now 3rd all-time longest drought was a stretch of 72 days from 5/14/19 to 7/25/19 (7/26/19 UTC)

- Lots of localization file changes, as well as item schema changes can all be viewed here
- And in case you forgot with it having been so long since the last update, translations are made possible in part by the efforts of Translators Like You - Thank You

- Size is ~55 MB

#1 CS:GO update for 6/3/21 (6/4/21 UTC, 1.37.9.3) in CS2 General Discussion

Via the CS:GO blog:

Valve[NON-PRIME]
– Non-Prime status accounts will no longer earn XP, Ranks, Skill Groups, item drops, or Prime status through play time.
– Non-Prime accounts will not be able to participate in Ranked matches.
– Non-Prime accounts will not be able to activate Bonus Rank XP items and can no longer claim Service Medals.

[UNRANKED MATCHES]
– Introducing Unranked matches for Competitive, Wingman, and Danger Zone game modes.
— While still using skill-based matchmaking, Unranked matches do not affect Skill Group and have no Skill Group party restrictions.
— Non-Prime accounts are restricted to Unranked, whereas Prime accounts may choose between Ranked and Unranked.
— Ranked matches will always be with other Prime players, exclusively, whereas Unranked matches will be created from the mixed pool of Non-Prime players — and Prime players that have chosen to play Unranked.

[VSCRIPT]
– Added “DebugDrawBoxAngles” to draw oriented bounding boxes. Usage: DebugDrawBoxAngles( ent.GetOrigin(), ent.GetBoundingMins(), ent.GetBoundingMaxs(), ent.GetAngles(), r, g, b, a, time);
– Added “GetBoundingMinsOriented” and “GetBoundingMaxsOriented” functions that return the axis-aligned bounding box of an entity taking its current orientation into account.

[MISC]
– Scrimmage has been removed from Competitive matchmaking, and has been replaced by Unranked matchmaking.
– Added Import button to Workshop Workbench that takes a .tga file and generates a .vtf file. If the .tga file name contains “_normal” the generated .vtf file will be compiled with the ‘normal’ flag.

Rumor has it:

- For additional answers to questions you might have about today's Prime changes, see this Steam Support article

- Script changes as well as a handful of translations, the latter of which are made possible in part by contributions from Translators Like You - Thank You, are all over here for your viewing pleasure

#1 CS:GO update for 5/27/21 (1.37.9.2) in CS2 General Discussion

Via the CS:GO blog:

Valve[ MISC ]
– Added option ‘2’ to sv_damage_print_enable, which, when set, will only print damage output after round has ended.
– Coach positions are now saved in round backup files.
– In Deathmatch, fixed the ability to extend invulnerability by repeatedly issuing the “open_buymenu” command.
– In Retakes, armor value now remains fixed during card selection.

[ VSCRIPT ]
– Fixed bounding box issue for rotated entities.

[ MAPS ]
– Ancient
— Art-revision on bombsite B and surrounding area
— Higher contrast base textures at B for better player reads
— Fixed random missing micro-polygons in bomb B totem/sculpture
— Recolored plywood throughout the map for better contrast
— Straightened out broken-wall passage to bombsite B
— Tweaked spawnpoint placement for both teams

– Grind
— Reduced lurk positions in mid for more fluid rotations.
— Lowered cover on A Short to allow boosting over smokes.
— Removed unintended boost locations.
— Fixed multiple bomb stuck spots.
— Minor quality of life and art updates.

– Mocha
— Clipping improvements.
— Navigation mesh improvements.
— Added additional bombsite markers.
— Bug fixes: deathmatch gamemode spawns, CT spawn soundscape, minor lighting errors.

– Cache
— Performance optimizations. (Thanks leplubodeslapin!)
— Reduced bird sounds volume.
— Reduced contrast on some textures.
— Brightened sky slightly.
— Fixed minor issues. (Thanks imik!)
— Restored vivid color to select textures and models.
— Restored select details even on lowest graphical settings.

Rumor has it:

- If you're having a hard time wrapping your head around what the bounding box issue is all about, try watching this brief video demonstrating the problem uploaded by /u/OrelStealth and you'll most likely walk away with a much better understanding of it:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GkjoCXk3P-Q

- A description outlining each of the options for sv_damage_print_enable has been attached to that command which will appear when it's entered without a number, now that option 2 has been implemented

- While today's map updates make up a bulk of the size of this update, there is also a slightly smaller than usual set of translations, which are made possible with the efforts and help of Translators Like You - Thank You

- Size is close to 300 MB

Via the CS:GO blog:

– Adjusted the calculation for the weapon performance category score.

[MISC]
– Fixed a case where players would receive duplicate warnings about launching in untrusted mode.

[MAPS]
Ancient

-Slimmed down the fancy rock, also in mid connector to A
-Sparsed foliage and improved clipping on boost planter near A main

– Fixed collision of pillars around A site
– Minor art updates around T spawn

Frostbite
– Fixed a regression with airdrops
– Fixed stuck spots (thanks Jakob & conzept)
– Fixed a gap in terrain
– Reworked watchtower models

Rumor has it:

- As /u/vMcJohn alluded to a couple of weeks ago, a fix for Trusted Mode blindly trusting anything with a digital signature that just so happened to be located in C:\Windows\* (such as a workaround to use OBS' Game Capture layer) has been implemented where if foreign software is detected, the game will operate as if it was running with the -allow_third_party_software launch command (and there's a few GC protobufs to relay that fact when it does happen)

- Yes, 2020 RMR Sticker Capsules are still available to be purchased

- Other than that, a few translations have made their way in that were hammered out as usual with the help of Translators Like You - Thank You

- Size is ~250 MB
