Pure poetry, provided the invite players allow themselves to play-through-the-pain and not disconnect halfway through a match.

and also changing your dxlevel in launch options http://tf2.gamebanana.com/tuts/6903 ctrl+f for dxlevel. dxlevel 96-99 are the highest

96, 97, and 99 no longer work, only 98 and 95 do.

Think this changed when mat_picmip was locked.

Install OpenVPN on servers
Connect servers to a VPN
Block Source ports on the servers from access except from the VPN's IP range
Connect players/casters to the VPN
Give out the VPN server IP
Now even if someone looks up their game info in Steam, they should only see a server IP from the VPN range

Not 100% sure this works because I've never tried it.

I have a VPS with TF2 on it. I'll experiment with this.

Edit: We forgot a couple of key points... VPN costs and ping overhead. Especially that last one.

we need a new server var valve:
sv_private

when set to 1, mask server info on steam's "view game info" page ("%name% is playing on a private server"), and disallow joining via the "join game" button on steam. sending invites should still work however, and players should be able to join if invited.

BLoodSirekirbyWait, did the TF2 beta become invite-only with the Gun Mettle update? It's not in my library anymore.
I think it's packaged in the game now. Click on the "Play" button in the TF2 startup menu, then check the box in the bottom left that says "include beta maps"

That's not the TF2 Beta. The TF2 Beta was a dev branch where they tested major changes to weapons. It hasn't been around in years - specifically, the last thing to come out of it was the Equalizer/Escape Plan split.
