trust me man i dont like 48hz haha
wtzhi there
im planning to buy a pc and a 144hz monitor in like september/august ish so idk if thats too far ahead to plan so sorry if it is
my budget is around 600~ish(not including monitor) and honestly i just play csgo so would like to have 144+fps constant on that for like medium settings? besides those games probably just dota and league so 144+ for those as well on medium as well
idk too much about the monitors either but my price range for it would be 200 and under if you could recommend some that'd be great
also an england boy :)
thanks!
hi again so p much the same stuff but gonna get it sept/octoberish instead
SetsulYeah it's still a bit too early.
Anything you could reuse though? With a budget of 600 saving 100 or so by reusing HDD, case, whatever is very noticeable.
bit late of a reply but nada, nothing i can reuse :(

In an ideal world, if you're willing to overclock, something like this: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/Jcf9q4
With a cheaper and/or used GPU, maybe dropping the HDD, 8 instead 16 GB RAM you could get this below 600 if it's not in October.
If you don't want to overclock: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/YhMcZR
The 9100 non-F is so much more expensive than the 9100F (no cooler, no iGPU) that even with a 35£ cooler the F would still be cheaper. Any cooler will do so unless you think you really need that iGPU go with the F.
B360/H370 only support 2666 RAM, but it's really not worth buying a Z370/Z390 mobo just for faster RAM.
Case doesn't matter much, pick whatever you like, can afford and isn't complete garbage.
There's also the AMD option: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/yzMcZR
3400G is also an option, slightly faster and SMT is nice for other things.
Overclocked it would still be slower than an overclocked 9350KF, but about on par with the 9100F.
So it's a bit of a niche/sidegrade, because if you don't want to oc it loses to the 9100F and if you do you can afford the 9350KF with a bit of fiddling.

Hi everyone, this is my first post here and I was wondering if any of you could advise which of these pre-built PC's are best value. For reference I live in the UK.
I play a lot of TF2, and I have played some competitive with friends and rostrr-rode as well, but I'm now thinking of getting into it more seriously.
As a background, I'm used to TF2 looking like trash, I currently run mastercomfig on a laptop (Lenovo IdeaPad 5000) and I run it 640 *480 in 4:3 at dxlevel 80
With these settings I am comfortably getting well over 100 frames, only dipping in very hectic combat scenarios and on less optimised map.
I would like to play TF2 in slightly higher settings but still optimised as far as frames go.
I would like to also play other modern games comfortably on lower settings.
TL; DR
Which of these pre-built PCs is best for competitive TF2 and most modern titles without breaking the bank?
Budget is £2,000.
Thanks!

No, it's >650 which shouldn't qualify as "600-ish" since it's closer to 700. So if the prices don't drop enough (or not at all) until October you can force it down to 600.
#3399
Not really a build and cba to go search through 5 pages of pre-builts right now.

_KermitYo, I'm looking to build a new PC around a 3700x in the near future and am looking for advice on a build, I've not really been keeping up to date with most tech stuff.
The build will be mostly for games, mainly TF2, Dota, CS:GO and souls games, probably some Destiny 2 which literally maxes my current cpu out lol. I'll maybe play Elden Ring/Cyberpunk too when they're out, but no idea of how demanding they'll be. Aiming to get at least 200+fps in TF2 and at least 150 in Destiny 2, the graphics don't need to be maxed for Destiny though.
I'll also want to stream all these games at some point, which is why I felt a higher core count could be beneficial. It might be a bit overkill, but if the PC is gonna last as long as my current one has done, I may as well go overkill now and maybe get a bit more longevity.
I'll be doing some video stuff as well and will want to render at 1440p60 hence going for the 3700x instead of 3600x just for some more cores to use while rendering. Unless I'm mistaken in how many cores can be used to render videos.
I already have storage (850 EVO) and GPU (RX 480) sorted as they'll be reused from what I have now, will be looking for everything else, including a new case and PSU.
Budget is ~£700
It's been almost two months now since I posted about wanting a new PC built around Ryzen 3, and my own pc is starting to die, so getting a new pc is becoming more of a priority. Any chance prices have settled enough for a decent build to be put together at this point?

Yeah, but you still can't afford a better GPU so that'll have to wait. Not great for Destiny 2 but at least there's still plenty of time until Cyberpunk is released.
Overclocking yes/no?
Full ATX or µATX?

Yeah Destiny has become more of a backburner game anyway so I'm not terribly bothered now, should have mentioned that. At this point streaming/video work is more the focus of the build than straight up gaming.
I'm open to the idea of overclocking, I've done a bunch with my current CPU, but with Ryzen I don't know if it's worth going for. Whichever you think would be best really, if an overclocking board is overall better than a non-overclocking one, then the OC board is the choice to make.
As for form factor, I'd prefer full ATX. I had also been looking at the below case and might take case fans from my old pc.

Not sure which decent coolers are reasonably priced in the UK right now but 50£ should be enough to give you some options. You can spend more money on that and the mobo if you want to. X570 prices still aren't great so I'd recommend B450/X470 with CPU-less BIOS update just to be safe.
PSU prices are always terrible so I'll have to search manually later.
Didn't check the RAM QVL either but since the mobo might still change I couldn't be bothered.

Yeah that all seems good to me, that was the RAM that I had been looking at/reading reviews for as well actually.
The main thing I had 0 idea about really was the motherboard, so as far as mobos are concerned, I'll take your word for whatever you suggest going for. Though I'd rather not have a mobo that's brown, I don't mind spending a bit more, up to like ~100 or so for a different one.

They're all fine in terms of VRMs so pick whichever you like most or based on other features, not that they differ much.

Not much to be done for the PSU I'm afraid. You could save 10-20£ by going for a semi- or even non-modular 80+ Bronze that ranks like 5 tiers lower, but it just doesn't seem worth it. So really it's between the the Focus Plus Gold and a G3.
https://skinflint.co.uk/evga-supernova-g3-550-550w-atx-220-g3-0550-y2-a1549684.html?hloc=uk
They're both very good, hard to say which one is better (better regulation on the Seasonic, but better +12V ripple supression on the G3 and so on) and although I'd lean towards the G3 in that regard I'd actually recommend the Seasonic. It's shorter and quieter at low loads, which unlike the difference between 12 and 25 mV ripple you might actually notice.
Still didn't check the RAM but I trust you to ctrl+f through a QVL once you've picked the mobo.

Everything is running nicely, but, here we are less than a week after I bought everything and my secondary monitor has died. So I'm looking for recommendations on 60hz monitors with pretty good colours that won't break the bank, budget is ~£100.

Out of curiosity: Did you have to update the BIOS?
Anyway, this depends a bit on what you think are "pretty good colours" and whether you want 24". 1080p is a given but both IPS and 24" would be difficult. 24" TN and 20-23" IPS are very doable though.

Yeah I had to update the bios, but with the "flash bios" button on the back of the mobo, it was entirely painless to do.
I'll be honest and say that my knowledge of monitors is pretty limited, but the last monitor I had (BenQ v2420) was just kinda lifeless looking. The monitor will mainly just be used for watching movies/tv shows on, so I don't mind dropping from 24" to a slightly smaller one if it means an overall better viewing experience.

Excellent, so the mobo was definitely worth it.
Yeah low end TN panels do that. It's hard to find reviews for budget monitors so I'll have to go mostly by specs.
Flicker-free VA/IPS 23.6" or 23.8" should be a good starting point. Then there's still two choices to be made:
1. Curved or straight, which I guess comes down to preference.
2. Which features you want on top of that. Adjustable height, tilt, etc. if you need it, FreeSync (no eye cancer with 24/25 fps if your player doesn't deal with that), 8 bit instead of 6 bit + FRC (in theory slightly better colours) or stretching the budget and getting a combination e.g. for 8 bit + FreeSync there's some options around 110-120£.

Yeah it was 100% worth getting, I'd recommend it highly, so far.
1. I'm really not sure, for watching movies and such I feel like a curved monitor might be better but I'm honestly open to either.
2. If I can get a couple extra features/a better experience for ~£10 - £20 more then an 8bit + FRC type sounds good.

Oh it would be 8 bit without FRC. FRC is basically interpolation to emulate 8 bit colours with a 6 bit panel. Either way 8 bit is the better one so we'll go with that.
Ok so the cheapest curved 8 bit also got FreeSync. https://skinflint.co.uk/samsung-c24f390-lc24f390fhuxen-a1399700.html?hloc=uk
HDMI only I think.
Straight 8 bit and FreeSync we got
https://skinflint.co.uk/philips-e-line-246e9qjab-a1816797.html?hloc=uk
VGA (obviously no FreeSync on that), HDMI and DisplayPort.
https://skinflint.co.uk/philips-e-line-246e9qdsb-a1816725.html?hloc=uk
Same thing with DVI instead of DP and a bit cheaper.
DVI doesn't support FreeSync though so using it would be a waste and you'd be better off with a monitor without FreeSync. Perfectly viable way of saving money if you're going to use HDMI though.
They all got tilting but nothing else.
If you don't need/want FreeSync there are cheaper straight 8 bit monitors, no curved ones though.

Hey guys,
I am looking to upgrade my GPU and am currently considering a RX 5700 XT or a RTX 2070. I´ve been comparing benchmarks and it seems that the rx 5700 XT has a better price / performance ratio. But im not sure how an AMD GPU would work with my current setup, and if there are other possible bottlenecks I am missing.
My current Setup:
CPU: Intel Core i7-6700K
GPU: EVGA GTX970 SuperSC ACX 2.0
SSD: SanDisk SSD Plus 240GB
RAM: HyperX Fury DDR4 2400 C15 4x4GB
MBD: Gigabyte GA-H170M-D3H-CF
Thanks in advance !

Why would it not work?
Any bottleneck that would affect a 5700 XT would also affect a 2070.

In TF2 yes. Everything else depends on the game and settings.
More importantly is the question really "would a Ryzen 7 2700X bottleneck a 2080" or is it "would a 2080 be bottlenecked by a Razen 7 2700X"? If it's the former I'd ask you why you're not buying a 3700X instead and if it's the latter I'd ask what you're buying the 2080 for.

so it comes down to my preference in choosing which GPU, right?
Would you prefer one over the other?
Thanks Setsul
P.S. You´re a legend for maintainig this thread for idk how many years

Yes.
The 5700 XT is cheaper and faster, it's hard to argue with that. Definitely go for an aftermarket version though, there's only so much the single fan reference cooler can do.
Thanks, it's been almost 6 years now.

my 1080 died and i bought a 2080. everything i’ve thrown at it so far has been fine but when pc sales roll around i’ll probably upgrade to a 3700x or 3900x
followup question, would it be better in your opinion to get a new motherboard and an i9 or just get a ryzen 9 3900x and keep the motherboard i have now

Depends on the mobo, how hard you're going to oc and whether you want PCIe 4.0.
A decent B450/X470 board should do just fine.
Just upgrading for the sake of uprading is pointless though. If everything runs as well as you want/need it to just wait, there'll always be better hardware next year.

@setsul i think im just gonna send it and buy the rog strix mobo and an i9 because the 3900xs require a different bios,
is it especially hard to upgrade the bios for an msi x470 gaming plus to fit the 3900x?
i guess i shouldve specified that i already owned the 2700x earlier, i misunderstood your bottleneck question
