Hey,
My CPU is overheating and I don't know what to do. I've cleaned all the dust in my pc, I upgraded my CPU cooler, I reapplied my thermal paste plenty of times.
My idle temp is around 50-60 and under heavy load it jumps around 70-90.(Celsius that is)
My specs:
AMD a10-7700k
Gigabyte F2A88XM-D3H
Geforce GTX 970
Corsair CX500M
Cooler Master Hyper 103
Thermal paste I'm using currently is Arctic silver 5.
Any help would be appreciated.

Tbh you can get away with anything below 90 so I don't see the problem. 70-80 definitely isn't overheating.
Other than that:
-Check for thermal throttling to be sure. If there is none, it's not a problem.
-Check the fan rpm. It might to be spinning up all the way to the max. Check the case fans as well.
-Did you apply the thermal paste properly after cleaning both the CPU and cooler and not just put another huge glob on it?
-Is the cooler mounted correctly?

Temp3 is my CPU temp in Speedfan. It seems like speccy shows double the temperature speedfan does. Is there a way to see which one is correct?

Speedfan is definitely incorrect. Unless you are outdoors -8°C isn't legit.
HWMonitor should show some more information like min/max temp. It shows fan speeds as well.
1st build. Pretty satisfied except I accidentally fried the motherboard in the first month. But I got that replaced and learned my lesson.

Only Z chipsets support overclocking.
There was a bug that allowed overclocking on other 8 series chipsets. Intel didn't like that. The next microcode/firmware update in July 2013, a few weeks after motherboard manufacturers had figured that out, "fixed" it. I'm assuming MSI chose to remove the options that wouldn't do anything anymore. Reverting to a BIOS version before (in your case that's only the first (C.0)) that should get you the options back. Whether it'll actually reenable overclocking depends on how Intel blocked it and I'm not sure about that. Also not only using a very old BIOS, but the very first version for a particular motherboard is usually a bad idea.
In any case, if you can afford a -K i7 and a 100€ B85 mobo, but not the 110€ Z87 version of that mobo or the 95€ Z87 version without the glorious Qualcomm Killer E2205 Ethernet swag then something is probably wrong.

4790K and an overpriced mobo but a budget cooler.
3x4GB RAM which is slower than both 2x4 and 2x8 or 4x4 because it ruins dual channel.
970 whose only advantage over the 390 is efficiency but then you get a 750W PSU for a 300W build anyway.

So there seems to be a few knowledgeable people here on this forum. I've been and out of whats the newest PC hardware over the years but recently have been "out of the loop". Looking to build another Powerhouse PC once Nvidia releases the new goodies in April, any suggestions or words of wisdom for me? Been taking an interest in 4K recently after buying my TV so I may go that route eventually too if supported hardware is released to allow for 120-144hz 2160p.
Basically, whats the latest and greatest out there and the good V bad of it all?

New AMD cards are expected mid 2016 and they should include DP 1.3.

Ah alright. Yeah if it's true that 1.3 will support higher refresh rates of 4K then I'll wait. Even so, are current 4K monitors worth it for gaming at the moment? And I'm planning on doing an entire SSD drive based system, how's an Intel pci-e ssd for OS and steam? And do you have any recommendations for extended motherboard brands? Thanks again.
If you want to use a PCIe SSD as a boot drive then you need to make sure to have NVMe support throughout:
-PCIe SSD with NVMe
-Motherboard with NVMe support in BIOS

Yes, DP 1.3 will support 120Hz at 4K.
I'm not sure what you'd want a 4K monitor for anyway. For the resolution to be noticable on a 24" (27") monitor you need to be closer than 3' (3.5'), for the full benefit you need to be closer than 1.5' (1.75'). That's awfully close. Of course there's bigger screens but I never understood why you'd use those as monitors.
I'd rather just get an M.2 SSD, Samsung 950 Pro probably.

No, not quite. There is no reason to buy a PCIe SSD that doesn't use NVMe (it would be hard to find one anway). Windows 7 does not support NVMe. Therefore either don't get a PCIe (or M.2) SSD or stop using Windows 7 and upgrade to at least Windows 8.1.
At 2-3 foot 1440p is more appropriate, I don't see the need for 4K.

Are you sure about dual GPUs though? A single, more powerful GPU is always better (unless there isn't a more powerful one). What's your budget?
So what exactly is NVMe, and why doesn't it work with Windows 7? I've gotten into multi monitor setups lately and was planning on attempting a 3 monitor 4K setup so as to the reason for 2 cards. What's the specific name for motherboards though that support 3-4 way SLI/crossfire? Budget is I'd say around 4-5K for hardware, I've already got most of the water cooling parts and case.

You can get it to work if you add the drivers before installing but honestly when you're doing a fresh install why not move to a newer OS?

4K or 120Hz. Choose one. Apart from the fact that there are no 4K 120Hz monitors yet, current and even next gen GPUs are going to strugge to push 60fps on high settings on a single 4K monitor. If you were to get 3 GPUs and 3 monitors the problem stays the same, with only 2 GPUs it's even worse.
There's no point in buying all this stuff now if
a) You can't get 120fps in triple 4K unless you drop to pretty low settings and
b) You can't get 120Hz 4K monitors so you might as well wait until those are available and get more powerful GPUs for less money once that happens.
If those 4-5K are including the monitors I'm pretty sure the budget won't cut it either. 120Hz 1440p monitors are >500$, 4K will be more expensive than that. GPUs I'm guessing you're going for flagships or slightly below. Add waterblocks and you're already easily over budget without any other hardware. For 2 cards you could get away with LGA1151 (barely) but who are we kidding? You'll want LGA2011-3 with those nice 40/32 PCIe lanes. Check the specs there should be something like "PCIe configurations: 16/16/8, 16/8/8/8, 8/8/8/8/8". For 3 GPUs you'll want at least 3 entries with 8 or higher in one of those lists. Like I said 2 shouldn't be a problem, most full ATX Z170 boards can do 8/8.
What do you mean you already got most of the watercooling parts? You can't even guess if radiators can handle the wattage if you don't even know what parts you'll get. You don't know if the pump(s) can handle the blocks if you don't know which and how many blocks you'll get. You can't know what blocks you'll get if you don't know which parts you'll get.
This all seems incredibly rushed.

again thank you for taking the time for the excellent answers! And that's what I was trying to figure out in terms of the motherboard info. The 4-5K would be for parts only and not monitors. Currently I have 3 480 radiators and many extra connectors and pump with radiator is what I was referring to for water cooling parts.
So you don't see 4K 120hz monitors coming out anytime soon?
After looking over the NVMe info, does this mean all I need to use an intel 750 series PCIe SSD on Windows 7 is a few drivers?
