Fixing my DeathAdder

So after my previous graphics card thread where I demonstrated how to fix a poorly designed fan set up (gigabyte windforce) my 5 year old decided to zealously click on people and since that episode my mouse one has ceased to function properly - it simply doesn't click or respond.

So what is somebody who'd rather repair than buy new to do?

Step 1 - pry the top off the deathadder, apparently some versions the top facing is screwed on but mine is the 3.5 g 3500 dpi edition and it just popped right off using a butter knife.

Step 2 - clean things with cotton swabs and alcohol - I also verified that the clicky things still worked (by using a tiny screw driver with the mouse plugged in mouse 1 worked fine).

So with the conclusion that it was the plastic tab that presses mouse 1 being the issue I resorted to everybody's best friend duct/duck tape.

Step 3 - wrap plastic thingy that touches the clicky sensor with a 1/2 inch wide piece of duct/duck tape.

step 4 - pop the top facing back on via putting the front down first and applying pressure.

Step 5 - death adder works perfectly again, I can double click, drag and drop etc, although I have to push down kinda hard until the duct/duck tape shapes up a bit more (I imagine) and I no longer hear a tactile click.

see my goal was to avoid buying anything - cuz I paid like 80$ for this mouse - so I'm going to use it until I die basically or they implant peripherals in our brains. It's made it 3 years so, so far so good lol.

do you have the jumpy scrolling issue? if so, it can be helped somewhat by opening it up and squeezing the part that detects the scroll wheels turns with pliers or similar:

in my experience this will help for a while, but eventually it will loosen up again after a couple months :S

I had the same problem w/ mine and when I tried to pry off the top part it cracked. RIP

But then i got the 2013 model and it's so worth it and amazing.

It all worked out in the end.

Not sure if this applies to anyone.

But Razer does have a pretty good warranty policy - http://www.razerzone.com/warranty/en_GB. Wired mice have 2 year replacement warranty.

Does not matter where you bought the mouse, as long as you have proof of purchase.

However, this process from email/call to Razer to ship back to your house may end up taking about a month. (I have like 2 back up mice just in case b/c I <3 2013 DeathAdder.)

My mouse is over 3 years old so it was a lost cause there - after looking at it really carefully the plastic part that strikes the sensor has a piece taken out of it (worn down). So the tape works perfectly to correct that :D And I didn't have to ship it away. After I trimmed down the tape with scissors and worked it with my hands it works like new and I can hear the click too lol

My other method was going to be switching to using right click instead - which would have been just ducky if I didn't spend 80% of my tf2 time playing medic lol.

Also, I'm very glad that I've worked in some disgusting places because it was nasty under that facing lol.
