From a legal perspective, I dislike the term 'hate crime.' It distracts from the substance of the matter. Hatred of others (for whatever reason) is a moral failing. The law should not care about what you think or believe; it should only care about what you do. What these people did is despicable.

Still, it saddens me that there are undoubtedly many others who see this sort of thing as acceptable or even good, and that they may act on such convictions.
