Tino_Most Russians actually seem to support Putin... Take from it what you will, but most polling puts Putin's approval above 60%.

Is the polling really accurate though?: what polls? pre- or post invasion? polls funded by putin? what is the disparity between putin's polls & independent polls?

on a fundamental do you really think putin would allow polling that shows him having a low approval despite "winning" his latest election with 75% of the vote?

The takeaway shouldn't be that the polling is 100% accurate. The takeaway should be that the people in the west significantly underestimate Putin's popularity among the Russian people.

And I am equally sure that Swedes and Americans know as well.

None of this is "I think". I am going off of historic numbers and polling data that shows that overall Putin seems to actually have quite decent popularity. Now be that because of propaganda or whatever, that's another matter but it doesn't change the reality.

Found this thing from CNN.

Putin HAS significant support from Russians. Thing is it's mostly older people and not younger, therefore you go on the internet and you see most people opposed. It's similar to polish government too, lots of people oppose it and you can see it online but in offline reality it has a lot of support anyways.

Yeah, at least in the CS:GO scene one of the biggest tournament organizers just banned two top tier teams from competition, and NA'VI, currently ranked world #1, cut ties with their parent organization because it was denying the existence of the conflict

considering most of EU not accepting Russian aircraft, pro esport players from Russia have the choice of going home and staying in Russia for the foreseeable future, or don't go back to Russia and be able to play LAN events without struggling to leave the country.

Not sure how actions like these do anything but punish normal Russian citizens who need a way to pay for basic necessities. I really don’t see how this does anything to stop the Russian forces who are actually advancing into Ukraine.

I believe the logic is that all transactions made in Russia, whether that be selling a product or using a debit card, includes tax. That tax money goes to the Russian government, which funds the war effort, etc. Also has the benefit of making the war even more unpopular in Russia, and for a dictator, public opinion means a lot. When his security forces can't pay for food because of his decisions, quashing protests suddenly doesn't sound that appealling.

pajaroAlso has the benefit of making the war even more unpopular in Russia

It wasn't popular since day 1. Source

As for Visa and Mastercard leaving Russia, it was only a matter of time, we have our own payment system. Idk about MC, but Visa was taking 2% from every transaction.
They still will function within the country, you just can't make any international transactions

forcing russia, china and india (3 billion people combined, regular business partners who will not stop international trade just because of this war) to trade in currencies other than the us dollar is an excellent, foresighted strategic decision made by impeccable statesmen, the likes of which we rarely see on the world stage!

russia is planning to disconnect from global internet by the 11th of march. Iirc it's something they've been practising to do since 2014. They may manage to do it.
They're about to become like North Korea...

Whether or not Russia is going to do that, I don't know, but the documents linked in that tweet don't say that. It's about moving Russian domains to Russian DNS servers, a call to stop using javascript tracking code from other countries and to move hosting to Russia.
Here's a decent thread on it: https://twitter.com/shakirov2036/status/1500584933491982341
