Intro:
Yo! Early last year I was introduced to weapon-specific crosshairs by a friend, I personally found it annoying and frustrating to either manually edit each script file or use websites that I knew about at the time. I grew tired and wanted a single piece of software/program to create and/or edit my weapon-specific crosshair config. Was told by a few of my friends to make a tftv thread to share my work, so here is the result from my inner frustration.

Venom Crosshairs is an open-source client-side solution to automating the installation and make customization of weapon-specific crosshairs easier.
Venom Crosshairs currently contain 161 crosshairs found from various places around the interwebs and from recommendations by friends. A full list can be found in another repository here. I'd be happy to verify and add more crosshairs.
Venom Crosshairs is still under "beta" so there might be bugs that aren't ironed out yet.
Yes, this only works on Windows machines.

Really well made and easy to use
Really well made and easy to use
Been using this for the past few months, for someone like me who changes crosshairs as if his life depends on it, the cfg.tf way of doing it, even though it's not necessarily bad, was getting really annoying. This app on the other hand just does it for you, super simple and easy. Another big thing for me is the fact that it has quite a few crosshairs that aren't available on cig.tf.
He's put in a lot of effort and responds to feedback really quick, would highly recommend everyone to try it out!

this is a great project! really simplifies the crosshair configuration process. however, this application only works on Windows. I'd be willing to work on a Qt app which could hopefully make this cross-platform, but I'd like to know about your experience with the development of the existing app beforehand. thanks!

very true that this currently only works with Windows, I've had no previous thoughts about making this cross-platform (just been assuming that pretty much the majority by a big margin plays TF2 on a Windows machine)
this project worked as some sort of "comeback hobby project" to developing in C# as I got stuck only working with Python over the year, it has been mostly fun as I've mainly seen it as a learning experience :) not sure if this was the answer/explanation you were looking for/asking about :p

yeah it wasn't haha, but I'm still really glad to hear about the progress you've made. I should've been more clear - is there any feature which the program uses that is only available on Windows (e.g., a specific game file)? Cheers

Ah right, my bad :p
I have no idea how the game looks like on non-Windows systems, it takes use of two files from the game, namely vtf2tga.exe and tier0.dll

zhernis there a way to add my own crosshair files to work with this program?
of course! just place your .vmt- and .vtf-files in VenomCrosshairs\resources\materials and then reload the crosshair list (the double arrows in the top right) :)

MoermanWould be cool if we could get a preview (2) of the crosshair when you click on it in the overview menu (1).
And I feel like the menu (3) could be a bit more clear if we were able to sort by class or crosshair.
Nevertheless this program is so handy, thank you.

MoermanMaybe you could make the crosshair list wider. Not all text is visible

And it would be cool if you could swap a crosshair for another. Instead of having to select every weapon that has crosshair7. Just a simple method to swap all croshair7 into crosshair7OL for example
Thank you! I'd be more than happy to consider implementing these suggestions when I get more time to work on it. :D
