Welcome to mapreview.tf
Whats up blu team! Welcome to mapreview.tf - a repository of TF2 map reviews, class guides, and other resources made by the competitive community. As a TF2 veteran but comp newbie, I found it extremely hard to find good guides without combing through the internet for days or watching through an hour long video, so I've worked up this site which you can search through the (growing) list of resources by specific map, class, role, and creator.
This is still in early develpment, so I am looking for alot of feedback on what is helpful or features that can be implemented or improved. Right now, there is support for 6s format youtube videos and I've been testing out using the youtube clips (max 1 minute length) to clip out especially relevant bits. The goal of this is to be helpful to everyone, but especially new players who might not have the capacity to comb over everything, and just need an easy way to search whats out there.
In the future Im planning to add support for (in order of importance):
- Text resources
- Twitch VODS
- Clips/custom chapter support
Please let me know what you think should be added or changed - any feedback is appreciated ~Discord Link~
New Changes
- Language support
- Highlander/Sixes support
- New sorting algorithm
- Dynamic filtering of results

The current list of resources is alot smaller than it should be. If you know of any videos that are missing that absolutely should be in this app please add them here!

website is really cool
it would be nice to filter the videos by upload date so its not flooded by grandpas and outdated strats tho.

this is a cool idea instead of creating yet another how to series for the zillionth time.
Do you plan to include written ressources as well? I'm thinking old sigma guides or even comp.tf pages.

Yes! filtering and sorting by date is coming up soon. I was also thinking to add a sort of flag button that people can click, maybe for a given timestamp range to report outdated info.

Yep! text resources will be coming soon, I'll likely just have them be a link to existing pages, since copyright is an issue and I dont want to step on anyones toes by reposting without permission. Open to ideas on this.

Super! Right now the best ways to help are giving feedback/suggestions on features and submitting new resources. If you think there are resources that dont fit into the specific youtube form submission page, post them here or send an email to mapreviewtf@gmail.com so I can try to keep track for the future.

Awesome I think I’m gonna make a few videos of my own soon and I’ll upload them for sure. This is something I been wanting in the community for a while. I had the same experience in finding it hard to find info as a new player.

Amazing website and great idea, my only feedback so far is the website looks a bit clunky especially the dropdown menus but thats not very important.
Maybe you could add a page, filter or some sort of category system to categorize the maps from each league, e.g Sultry is played in RGL but not ETF2L, having them sorted can help new players browse for the right resources.
Keep up the good work, this looks sick

yo that's such a good thing, honestly i'm happy to see it because it's a thing which we missed for tf2pickup.org project and i think we could just leave a link to your website in our website clients so newcomers could see it and get an easier start
there is a couple of things you could change in your project from ui/ux perspective:
for submit video view you could:
- sort maps in the "maps" section alphabetically as well as versions, because it's kinda messy atm
versions shouldn't be clickable when a map isn't chosen and instead of blank entry name you can fill it with "choose map name", then when a map is chosen you can list their versions, also sorted out alphabetically
- there is a choice between highlander and 6v6 but there are no highlander maps except the commons played in two gamemode like gullywash xD
- when choosing competitive format, you can sort out maps based on it because i believe 6v6 gamers won't have to deal with upward point 1 sentry shenenigans
- with gamemodes you can leave sixes, highlander, prolander, ultiduo and bball because these are 4 played gamemode (i've heard about some people playing ultitrio and arena gamemode but it's like 0.000000001% minority)
- in classes section you can leave all classes so there can be idk highlander spy specific map reviews
- in roles section you can leave other because for instance for highlander idk what to choose amongst the three available options
- target level can have an option for all because it can be a general thing, you can also sort it out based on leagues if you are super pedantic but i think throughout all suggestions this one is the least useful because pretty much most euros like me know what's the difference between newcomer im and adv/invite, in etf2l we have open low mid high prem
- tbh not sure if it's important for what league the video is for because we play the same game regardless of the region, right?
- there is one thing you could add and it's a resource language, because maybe in North America almost everybody speaks English, but here in Europe it is definitely not a case and some people prefer a native speaker maptalk which is a cool choice for non-English native speakers
i know this website is something you actively work on but you can use a better font than times new roman in the about section, there are many fonts you can load from google fonts which is a cool option since web browsers will be downloading them from google websites and not yours
for maplist of highlander maps you can contact me at supra#0337 on Discord cuz i dont want to spam tftv with this garbage

can you have a section for frag videos / lore that are absolutely essential for new players to see (i49 fragumentary, quik vids, kaptain vids, clockwork vids, etc)

This list is super helpful thanks! I'll add the UI improvements and language support to the list. Most of what I've focused on so far is the backend, so there's a lot to do to make it feel nicer.
zherncan you have a section for frag videos / lore that are absolutely essential for new players to see (i49 fragumentary, quik vids, kaptain vids, clockwork vids, etc)
I'm not planning on adding a frag vids category unless there are a ton of requests for that. There are a ton of great vids there but i feel like you can just let youtube autoplay and you'll get the good stuff without a dedicated search.
Also EDIT: Just made a discord server if anyone wants to talk there: Discord

I think having a separate page dedicated to frag videos would be helpful tbh, as a newcomer to comp, it would be a good encouragement to see some very impressive clips on the class they'd like to play.

Highlander and Language support is now live!
If you have highlander or non-english resources to add please head over to mapreview.tf
~~~ I am not familiar with too many highlander map review resources - if you are please head on over to our discord and drop some links to resources or add them yourself on the submit page ~~~~
New sorting algorithm is now live!
Video resources will automatically be listed related to the video's age, likes, views, a ratio of likes:views. I might update this later so very new videos and smaller channels are promoted a bit more. Check it out at mapreview.tf
New Search Features!
Added more dynamic filtering of results in the search menu:
- Individual items now show the number of results in each category [eg. Soldier (10)]
- After filtering, the remaining options update and show updated counts
- Options without any associated resources are hidden
New Steam Login, Voting, and Tagging Features Live!
You can now up/down frag (vote) and add descriptive tags to videos once logged into steam on the top right of any of the main pages:
- 'Helpful', 'Good for New Players', 'Advanced Strategies', and 'Outdated' are the only tags right now, looking for input on more defaults to show
- Videos with higher frags and positive tags will be displayed higher in search results.
I'm also looking for help collecting videos
There are alot of great resources still out there that arent in the database yet. If you've published your own guides, map reviews, demo reviews, or quality POVs, or just know of any collections of videos it would be extremely helpful if you could submit them via the form on the site.
Check it out at mapreview.tf and join the community Discord! Always looking for more help and input on features to add etc.
