EDIT: From talking with friends, it seems as a whole my intentions were misinterpreted by a lot of people (I believe this is my own fault). I won't lay out exactly where things went wrong or how I still have issues, as I think it'll just be misinterpreted again and this discussion is not worth having at this point. I regret not running my post by some of my buddies to make sure my intentions were clear and read properly.
I'll close this out by clearing up a few things that hopefully won't invite potential controversy:
- I do not expect 100% QA perfection from any company or organization. I have worked in multiple types of customer service, where I both had control and no control over the product quality, as well as had my own failings dealing with customers.
- I never expected any RGL entity to shut down the entire store because of a single listing. Just because the sticker listing and actual product I received is messed up does not mean that the shirts are bad.
- I do not believe Mothership should be replaced/fired/transferred/punished/etc.
- I do not believe RGL is fundamentally broken or flawed or that the people running the org don't give a shit.
- This was not intended to be an RGL bashing post; I gave you the backstory of my customer interaction to hopefully let you understand why I felt the need to make this post to protect other consumers. While I am annoyed at certain things, bashing RGL was not the point of this post.
Cheers.
RGL refuses to take this item off the store: be warned now and later of potentially low quality items!
I ordered these TF2 Monuments stickers off of the official RGL merchandise store. I paid a total of 17$ (listed price of 13 + shipping).
You can note from the listing image itself, they appear a little weird. I figured they were just displayed like that due to some weird Teespring store glitch and assumed they were two separate stickers. You wouldn't want text arbitrarily sideways.
When my shipment arrived, here is what I received. This photo was taken with a Pixel 7; a recent phone with a notably high quality camera. I'd say the pictures are quite representative of the item itself. Here is an alternate image with a book with large and small text (for checking my camera quality), as well as a Post It note for scale.
You can first note how the stickers are stuck together. There is no tiny cut or anything that lets you use them separately; in order to use them separately, as obviously intended, you have to cut a perfectly straight line yourself to separate the stickers which is absurd.
Next, you can note the low quality of the stickers themselves; I believe that the source GFX itself is quite high res, but a low res printer was used, resulting in an incredibly poor quality image, making them unusable.
While getting a refund (which I started 8 AM Monday and is not finished yet (this is a Teespring return process, not RGL, to be clear)), I decided to open a support ticket to recommend removal of this item from the store.
The following two images are excerpts of the conversations I had with RGL (edit: the RGL Marketing Director specifically); I would go back and get more screenshots but the ticket was closed without it being my choice.

To recap: they admit it is low quality and that they're looking into other options. In the meantime, they will not take this product off of their official storefront. They cannot do anything about refunds, so if you get the item and you don't like it (you won't), you have to then go through the hassle of returning the item.
So for some reason, it's not RGL's problem that their product quality was not vetted and that you have to wait a week, get the item, realize how dogshit it is, then return it through a poor return process. That's your problem!
RGL, this is business 101. You don't put products on shelves that you aren't willing to back. As a result, I am extremely unhappy with my service and will not buy from your storefront again. I'm not making this tf.tv post because I'm unhappy though; I'm making it to alert other potential customers of the experience I've had, especially because you won't take this item off your storefront despite directly saying the item is low quality.

u handed a hot potato issue to a discord mod that requires the business admins finding a solution + communicating with a third party vendor. theyre probably having the same conversation with teespring that u are. teespring sucks, basically every site that does what they do sucks, they all do their best to make low quality products and bottleneck returns. why is this an rgl thread?

fourthwall seems to be the new "best" for merchandise quality. We've used it at fireside since our merch launch in july (and rgl seems to be using it for team merchandise) and so far the third party customer support/fulfillment have been great. We did have one product that screwed up embroidery (custom hat for one of our longtime contributors) and they were very quick to work with me to release a better quality version of the product AND send a free replacement to the contributor at NO EXTRA COST.
this is speaking after over 150 orders on our shop + multiple order samples + r&d. i've not had one complaint in regards to quality when reaching out to customers and the g6 guys gave their nod of approval too when it came to their merchandise quality. While I do think that they could do better on offering more cotton/less plastic apparel (the t-shirt is the only one that can be nearly or at 100% cotton depending on color) it's a step above other offerings when they literally give you everything on a gold plate
I think its time the entire tf2 community makes that move to fourthwall for any tf2 merchandise. nothing but great things so far to say about them from the product quality to fulfillment and shipping logistics.
The Fireside Stickers and Pass Time Stickers are my examples of good sticker quality. Not only can we offer them holo (a $2 manufacturing markup vs. a nonholo) but when they arrive, they're essentially on a sticker sheet where you have to peel off each sticker rather than having to cut and whatnot. We're very happy with the overall quality from Fourthwall from hats, shirts, stickers, etc.. PASS TIME merch was the first time we've experimented with print quality though so that'll remain to see whats up in the long run

That'd be different if I was promised that the item would be removed from the store. Instead, it is a vague "we'll figure out the issues" reply along with telling your customers they have to deal with the return if they don't like it (in direct response to someone asking "are you sure you don't want to remove this?" The marketing director themself said the product was low quality. Who would like it?
EDIT: To be clear, the proper response (imo) for this is:
- Notify customer that you agree product is unsatisfactory and you are making strides to remove it from the store ASAP
- Resolve issue with manufacturer
- Obtain product as sample
- Assure quality via inspection and use
- Put the product out for consumers to purchase

Fireside produces fantastic merchandise at low costs, and I don't think siyo is making these clothes/stickers/patches himself.
I don't think you actually read my post.
EDIT2: I also gave them 5 days after my recommendation to remove the product from the store. Hot potato issue? The potato is fucking freezing dude LMAO

Hi there, just to add to the conversation and clarify some things. When you initially made your ticket, I immediately reached out to our GFX team and they went to contact Teespring support. I havent followed up with them since then, since I believe that GFX is able to manage it from there on out, however I will reach out to them and follow up to see what Teespring said/is going to do about this and share once I have the details.
As I mentioned in the first screenshot, we are looking into switching to a different storefront/vendor. Currently we are running our team merch with Fourthwall similarly to what fireside is doing. However I do not want to commit to a single storefront if the quality does not meet our expectations. Teespring at one point did meet our expectations and is why we have used it so far all this time. I still have have some quality shirts I got from there. However, the quality since then has gone down, hence the new storefront search.
I am currently talking with the team regarding your current refund issue with Teespring and we will provide a better, more comprehensive response soon.

this post reads like rgl is a big org or actual business or something. it's not lol it's just a bunch of volunteers trying to bring in enough money to keep competitive 6s afloat. sorry ur stickers werent great or whatever but the whole "ensure a consumer is satisfied at all costs" approach most corporation have isnt reasonable to expect from rgl.
i was thinking $4 delivery seemed like a lot and i was right that includes $.81 sales tax and then rounding up. really petty but so is this whole post

i get the sentiment but merch is not a new thing and much smaller organizations than rgl have some kind of 3rd party merch setups just like this. it seems extremely normal to have an issue with something coming out shitty, even if its as trivial as a one-time manufacturing mistake

what was the resolution of the design uploaded to teespring out of curiosity
aierawhat was the resolution of the design uploaded to teespring out of curiosity
Also curious about this. The original images had 300 dpi resolution, but in my experience this wouldn't be the first time an image was sent through discord and the recipient accidentally used the low res discord thumbnail/preview instead of the full res original.
When the designs first went live I also asked about the odd way teespring had attached the two stickers and was assured it was just a glitch in how teespring displays the design.

I'm not asking them to rewind time to make sure I get a quality sticker. I'm cool if the stickers are fucked up and I have to return it; sometimes bad shit happens. I only gave details on the product quality so readers could understand why I think they should unlist the stickers. From what Mothership said in the thread, it seems like they've sampled their stickers before, but for some reason this run took an unexpected nosedive in quality, which I don't think is their fault.
To reiterate, my issue is that the item should not be purchasable while they figure out what's wrong. I don't think that's too much to ask. From a basic internet search, it seems like changing the visibility of the listing is quite easy.

czarchasmI'm not making this tf.tv post because I'm unhappy though; I'm making it to alert other potential customers of the experience I've had, especially because you won't take this item off your storefront despite directly saying the item is low quality.
I just want them to remove it temporarily, so no one orders it thinking they'll get a usable product, and then has to go through the hassle of a refund process for no reason when RGL is already unsatisfied with it.

No, I think I'm good. I don't think having an issue with the way something is done requires you to immediately jump and go join a community league to fix it.
I can't stop rereading my post trying to figure out where I've been misunderstood. I just want them to take it off the storefront. All of the rest of the post is just to provide context and backstory to better support my argument.
EDIT: Maybe the ending bit of my OP? Yeah, I'm unhappy with my experience, but it wasn't enough to make me never want to purchase from them again, and it wasn't enough to make me make this tf.tv post. Like I said, I made the tf.tv post to alert other potential customers of the risks of ordering. Maybe my wording's not great there.

Like I said, I made the tf.tv post to alert other potential customers of the risks of ordering. Maybe my wording's not great there.
u paid for the unique version you have to buy the genuine one

This photo was taken with a Pixel 7; a recent phone with a notably high quality camera.
The intelligence briefings I got on this statement are completely credible.
No but actually, yikes, that is pretty damn atrocious. You would think SOMEONE somewhere at the vendor would set their hands on that at some point and go "wait a minute this looks like total ass why are we even selling this to our client".

From reading and understanding the scenario (and assumptions from info I have abt RGL), Mothership is probably not to blame here because I'm sure that his role does not pertain to deciding what goes on and off the store, he's just there to advertise it. Something I'd also like to say is that he's kind of filling that role Taylor is but 3x harder since like brody said it's all voluntary and he's also trying to improve RGL. Ya RGL doesn't seem like it's in the best spot but there's a few ppl I know in there that are genuinely trying to make it better. It may seem a bit overblown to make a post abt this but all in all I think Mothership's responses were handled as best as he did since he doesn't actually handle the merch store itself
Not sure about if this sticker was a bad lemon or if there had been quality issues regrading this sticker in the past but RGL should have removed it from the shop if there were reoccurring quality issues. Generally Teespring's design editor should be able to tell you if the resolution of the sticker you're uploading (DPI) is of good/ok/bad quality, and based on the product details of the sticker this looks like an outdoor sticker even though the outdoor sticker is out of stock. Idk what a custom version of the sticker means tbh.
So some of czarchasm's concerns are intended for good but maybe some misassumptions were made. I'm pretty sure (and not sure on it) GFX handles what goes on the shop + goes through the design editor and it should tell them when they are uploading the stickers if it's of good resolution or not. Seems like teespring's fault to me imo.
Also obviously RGL does make profit on this but profit margins on PODs like Teespring (print on demand suppliers) mean that the profit margin is smaller, then you also have to give some of that already small piece of the pie to the person who made the design then you're also reinvesting profits back into the league itself. So it's not like they're making big money out of this either

Okay, I think I understand where the miscommunication and misunderstandings are in this.
When we talked about the drop in quality, we meant it in a general sense of the quality of products. The terrible quality sticker you received is not representative of the quality of products that Teespring normally ships out. Meaning, what you received was a clear mistake and failure of CC on Teespring's end and not what they normally send out. If what you got was representative of what the average user received, we would of gotten more reports similar to yours, and we would of taken the entire shop down immediately.
As far as the resolution of the designs, I was able to confirm that the issue isn't the size of the graphic. It was uploaded at the resolution that the designer submitted it as. To quote GFX: "The provided designs were crisp and legible and the designer is familiar with merchandise files."
To address the big issue. As far as removing the stickers from the store, that is an extreme measure for extreme circumstances. There will always be issues regardless of what storefront we pick and there is no such thing as a 100% quality assurance. Something will eventually get through and someone, like you in this instance, will get a terrible quality product. This however, despite Teespring's decline, does not mean every product sold will be of that same terrible quality you received. If we were to receive additional reports of issues, at that point I would look into moving the entire shop immediately, as the point of failure would be shared with our other products as well. With that said, we won't be removing the stickers or any of our current Teespring products at this time, however we will keep following up with Teespring regarding your specific situation.
Finally, for some good news, I talked with GFX regarding this and our overall plan to transition to a new storefront, and we are confirmed to be moving ahead with the transition unto Fourthwall. So look forward to an update regarding our transition unto there as well as some additions to the Team Merch!
