https://rgl.gg/?a=1777

We are announcing that we will host a LAN during the 6s Summer 2025 season (Season 18 Invite 6s Playoffs).

Returning Venue - Localhost in Philly

We will work with Localhost Philly to host our third RGL LAN which will be based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Due to our positive and ongoing work relations with Localhost, this was an important consideration when choosing to return to Localhost as they offered great service and experience for our staff and players. Furthermore, the size of the venue, access to enough rental PCs for teams and staff, stage, and production equipment access successfully allowed us to host our first Open tournament in addition to the Invite Playoffs during the two-day event.

Confirmed Dates

The LAN will be taking place during the RGL 6s S18 (Summer Season) on the Invite playoff weekend from July 19th to 20th.

Additional Information

Information such as player and team registrations (and costs), spectator passes, how to support the LAN, as well as tournament structure breakdown details will be announced in subsequent update articles.

Wish we can do a west coast one again, but the fullerton one is now closed permanently (https://nerdstreet.com/venues/localhost-in-fullerton). They said something about moving it to a new one in cali that would be 'larger', but deleted the web page about it.

Would be cool to see the Denver location be used, as the website state it has more PC stations then philly.

Looks pretty spacious also:

Not to speak for all the east-coasters, but I would prefer the Denver lan. I know a lot of people who are waiting for a larger central lan to go to. The appeal of more people at a larger venue outweighs the travel stuff. I also know of teams that didn't make it to this summer's lan, and with the size/pc count idk if it can be much larger (we'll see based on announcements)

I'm sure rgl wants to keep good ties with the Philly location, and maybe the Denver location has other logistical problems (rgl staff can't make it, rentals, tournament length, cost, etc)

I haven't heard of/ seen any interest poll from rgl about preferred lan locations, maybe they have more regional statistics about where most players live

I've been to the Denver location somewhat recently and agree that it would be a great place for the LAN

If it's Philly or no lan then of course I would prefer Philly, but if it's at all possible I would love a Denver lan (or really anywhere new) for a change!

Trust me, we would love to and have definitely explored potential esports venues all over the US, but the reality is that any good venues that have:

  • Space for 50-100+ spectators
  • Public transit and dining/lodging nearby
  • At least 24 SUPPLIED gaming PCs (players don't want BYOC and renting gaming PCs + 240hz monitors externally is too complex and pricey) - not accounting PCs for production, admins, servers, etc.

are completely out of our price range or straight up don't exist. It also doesn't help that the esports bubble is currently bursting post-covid and existing esports venues are struggling to stay afloat. For our first LAN in Foxborough, we were VERY lucky that Helix agreed to keep the pricing of the original New Jersey venue, which was much much smaller. For our 2nd LAN, we knew that players didn't like the lack of public transit and lodging/dining in Foxborough, Philly Localhost has experience hosting TF2 LANs, is accessible via the NE rail anywhere from VA to MA, was relatively affordable, and seemed like a safe bet. The LH in Denver was a close 2nd choice though.

The major reason is cost though. TF2 just doesn't have the money.

I can't lie the idea of every tf2 lan going forward taking place in downtown philly is pretty depressing so I hope the community can somehow a LAN happen at the localhost denver or fullerton again in the future

I know this might be a bit goofy saying this, but since we already pay a bit to the rgl lan to begin with through league fees, isn't it possible to also do a gofundme or something of those lines for the people that might be interested in investing more into a lan specifically? I think you can get a bit of support behind it but it could also be wishful thinking.

Ideally any substantial amount of money raised beyond covering current venue costs would go towards compensating LAN players/staff basics like food, travel, and lodging before funding the major $10k+ upgrade to a fancier venue. I haven't seen that amount of TF2 fundraising outside of the charity events, but if those essentials are covered and we outgrow what our current venues can handle, I don't see why not.
