Android custom roms and steam mobile

I have a problem with steam on my phone.

I currently am using the more stable nightly builds of cm 10.1 (android 4.2.2).

The problem is that when using steam chat on my phone, push notifications rarely get pushed to my device. If they do get pushed, it's several minutes, sometimes half an hour before they do, and I get this huge flood of messages out of nowhere.

I can send messages from my phone to other people on steam and they send promptly without any issues, but most of the time their response never gets pushed to my phone; when I get back to my computer, I see that the person had been sending me messages all along.

Any other custom rom users having the same issue?
