I think a lot of people hate on these sorts of videos because they read all of the youtube comments and think it's the right thing to do. Yeah the CGI was pretty bad, but it's still always nice to see people actually make something they're interested in and be able to share it online. If you've ever looked back at some of the "famous" editors (FreddieW, CorridorDigital, etc.) much of their early work looked similar to what you posted.
