It comes off wrong if he doesn't say why he wants to know what people do for a living.

I mean, imagine a thread asking "What class do you play?" and the post is "I just play random classes don't have a main and play whatever my team needs." It makes the topic feel kinda pointless because it seems like the thread is not actually relevant to poster. The thread itself is fine, but the OP is very awkward. If he included his 2nd post in the first one, it probably wouldn't seem as bad.

I work in tech support and as an unpaid research assistant in the microbiology department at my university. The hours add up to full time, but the pay doesn't. However I enjoy both jobs thoroughly, and have enough money to eat and go out, so I'm happy.
