What's your favorite Disney movie? Explanations not required, but go for it if you feel like it.

Mine's 101 Dalmatians. Because I wanted/still want to experience an avalanche of puppy kisses.

I really liked Tarzan. Especially the soundtrack. Close seconds would be Aladdin/Hunchback of Notre Dame.

oh boy i get to use my animation degree

hunchback of notre dame is #1 because it inspired me to go into animation, study abroad, focus in production/story, explore religion/spirituality and learn french

it's amazing but has flaws and despite it being my favorite i think there are other disney films that are better made and more consistent

in that case i'd give it to mary poppins. the entire beginning is fun happy stuff then it brings all its themes together and slams you down with mr banks' story and how it's really about him:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zYsSyCtjuNI

it relates directly to how walt disney felt in the last few years of his life: a great man with so much importance on his shoulders, to the extent he could no longer run his work the way he was once able to. it's why the tom hanks film with him is called Saving Mr. Banks

also giving honorable mention to snow white and the seven dwarfs. it is still one of the most beautifully crafted pieces of film ever. keep in mind it's technically not the first full-length animated feature film but it's the first one to show the world how to do it right (same with how steamboat willie is not the first mickey mouse cartoon nor the first sound cartoon)

i didn't appreciate beauty and the beast until later in life and it absolutely deserves being the first animated feature to be nominated for best film oscar. strangely enough it took only 2 years to make when most animated features take 5-7 years

ending with favorite walt disney quote

"Over at our place, we’re sure of just one thing: everybody in the world was once a child. So in planning a new picture, we don’t think of grown-ups, and we don’t think of children, but just of that fine, clean, unspoiled spot down deep in every one of us that maybe the world has made us forget and that maybe our pictures can help recall."

STOPPING NOW I SWEAR
