What kind of switches should I get for a mechanical keyboard?
I will use the mechanical keyboard for gaming+regular use(typing etc)
Browns seem good for my purpose, but I would like more feedback.

cherry mx switches, look at them.
If you like brown get the mx brown ones.
Personally I see no point to spend like 90$+ for a keyboard, with different switches, so far my 10$ normal keyboard is doing fine, and if it does break it's isn't a big hazel to get a new one.

I personally adore my MX Blues, so would naturally recommend them however you should go for whatever you think will suit you.

It's really all personal preference. A lot of people think that buckling springs are too stiff because they've got a higher actuation force than mx blues, but I got used to springs pretty quickly and now after having tried other switches I don't see myself ever changing. Chances are you'll like the feel of the first switches you buy. More importantly, how much do you care about noise? Noise, and whether or not others will be bothered by noise (my previous room mates have hated my unicomp because of the clicking) is a serious concern with a mechanical keyboard.

I disagree. Of course it's not the most important thing but it's just like getting a monitor with better colour, or a mouse that you prefer. It will make you experience better and you will be happier with that

And op, nobody can really give you advice for what mechanical switches to get. There are a few "guidelines" like reds are best for gaming and blues for typing, brows for middleground but these are vague guidelines that don't apply to everybody. Find a store that sells them, try the different switches and make you conclusion on what you prefer yourself

I can see why a mouse or a 120hz monitor would benefit you as far as improving goes, but a keyboard, I just don't see it. I know people who have said that 'Yea, the 120hz does make it a lot better', never have I heard that 'Yea, my new mechanical keyboard made me improve like a maniac'

After doing tons of research and looking at multiple reviews i decided to go with mx red for my first mechanical keyboard.
My CM Storm QuickFire TK with Red Switches arrived yesterday and i absolutely love it.
The easy and smooth feel of the red switches is just perfect for my taste, but at the end it really does come down to personal preference as stated above.

I would highly recommend the one I'm using right now, Razer Blackwidow Ultimate Stealth. It uses mx brown switches & is very quiet, requires 45g of acquisition force to push down & might I say looks amazing with it's individual back lit keys. It's also very durable, and its a programmable keyboard which means you can bind anykey to anything, you can even bind a mouse function.

IMO, I'd stick with your decision to go for browns.
I spent a ton of time researching different switch types/keyboards before I finally settled with a Filco with brown switches, because I figured it's a nice even ground between "gaming" and typing. It just has enough of a little bump to feel it while typing, but you don't really notice it too much when gaming because you'll be bottoming out your WASD keys anyways.

I prefer buckling spring keyboards over all others, an '89 IBM model M has got to be my favorite keyboard I've ever used, but MX Blues are the closest you get to that. I don't see why people say they're bad for gaming, I find it nice that I can hear/feel the activation point. The only real problem is that they're loud, which some people don't like.

Maybe I over exaggerated, but the money difference is to big in my book for a little better of a 'feeling'.

I personally like the Cherry MX Red. It's not too loud and they have a fast response time.

Yeah, my ultra ended up running me about $100 with shipping (5 pounds made it pricey), but it has made typing such a delight that even every day usage makes me grateful I picked it up.

I recently got a quickfire rapid with browns. I fucking love it. Browns are the best if you do a fair bit of both typing and gaming.

I absolutely love my blues. They are loud but they feel amazing when typing and even better when bunny hopping or just keystrokes while playing games. It may seem very loud at the start but you get used to it really fast.

Raiku, it is no doubt that if you spend a lot of time on a computer typing or playing games then it's definitely worth it, even for a "good feeling"

Isn't there something you can put on the keyswitches like some ring or something that will dampen the sound and make it less annoying for teammates?

They only lessen the sound of bottoming out.
