Not sure if this is common knowledge... What is russian style?

I rest my elbow on the armrest of my chair. I sometimes move my body towards my monitor or just layback.

you have the mouse horizontally instead of vertically and use your arm mainly as the mousepad is in front of you where the keyboard usually sits while the keyboard is in your lap

this is exactly how i used to play.

it helped me control my mouse a LOT better.

it was created apparently because european lans had barely any desk space, so you compensate it by removing the room for the keyboard and placing your mouse there instead

at home i center my mousepad with my chest and have my keyboard off to the side

at lan there isn't enough room for that and I aim best with my mousepad centered, so russian style

why is it called russian style

I have a traditional computer desk that has a pull out tray where you put your mouse/keyboard. Needless to say I kept bumping my mouse into my keyboard so playing with the keyboard on my lap was the cheapest alternative. The way I play is I don't use my arm resters on me chair and obviously lean forward a little. Got neck/arm aches for the first week but you get use to it.

oh, plus it encourages good posture.

i stretch my left arm out in the table to the keyboard and put my mousepad in front of the right edge of my keyboard, with my forearm hanging down off the edge of my desk and i aim with my wrist

i wanted to try out russian style for a while though, i should check it when i get home

I rest my elbow on my hip, with the keyboard on my knees. I dont move my mouse over the middle of the desk, but keep my right elbow on the arm rest. I sit up very straight and can aim better with my left arm down.

I'm assuming it originated in Russia, and when Rapha played against Russians he saw them doing it and adopted it. Spreadin that playstyle, don't clockwork and cyzer play like that as well?

I don't mean to ride rapha's dick but I believe he's always played the way he has, ever since he's started playing pc games

russians did it because LANs were crowded as fuck and they needed to save space, and it just kinda got comfortable to some people

Imma try Flash's style since my keyboard/mouse space is horrible (shoulda went with a 10key less, but oh well). Will probably reverse the tilt though since I prefer my hand going inward.

Before I bought a tenkeyless I had to play sort of like that, except my desk has 2 levels so it wasn't on my lap. Just centered relative to mousepad

My current setup looks like this. It's sort of a Russian setup, but quite different at the same time.

I have a corner desk that's shaped like an "L". This allows me to rest my mouse arm on the desk while my other arm rests on my chair's armrest. All the important commands I have bound to my n52te keypad. To make space for my mouse I moved my keyboard off to the side where it won't bump into my arm but I still have access to it for basic things.

The setup is pretty ergonomic. Both my arms are at the same level as my mouse/keypad so my wrists aren't bent at weird angles. The only problem is that I have a glass top on my desk. My bare arm sticks to it so I wear a long sleeve shirt to reduce the friction so I can move around a lot. Gaming in the middle of summer kinda sucks though.

I used to play semi russian-style, especially when I was still on a laptop - I'd have the keyboard on my lap but my mouse would stay to my right as usual. Since I increased desk space when I got my desktop, I've been keeping it on the desk, at a bit of an angle, but I occasionally put it on the lap; I don't really know why I switch it up.

Forearms on desk, elbows off, arms just an inch or so coming away from my shoulders, slightly tilted keyboard and mousepad because my desk has no room. Sitting upright or bent forwards a little when I'm taking something seriously, or leaning back when I'm lazy

i play with my mouse+right arm like that but with my keyboard on my desk between my mousepad & monitor, so all 3 are in a straight line... kind of odd i guess.

I used to play with my keyboard and mouse on the part that slides out on my desk, but recently its been sliding while im playing.Now im keyboard in the lap kinda guy.

When I was in college I had a 2 level desk. I strongly recommend it. That way your elbow hangs at the perfect height for your mouse and keyboard, and your monitor is still at the proper height for your eyes. Furthermore, since your monitor is not on the same level as your keyboard/mouse you have more room for the latter.

Never given it much thought but I'm trying this style out, I think it solves my problem of aches and pains from RSI when I do certain things in game. :O
