blazeinfinite-Removing the invite limit has certainly increased the skill of UGC's Platinum division and its great to see.
@ unf: You sure took Highlander seriously when you were on GG Seasons 5 + 6. Funny to see you pretend you don't now w/ your elitist invite circlejerk.
@ TLR: I enjoyed watching bonus! give your team a lesson on how to play highlander on Lakeside the other week. Maybe you should take it a bit more seriously next time so you guys can score at least one round.
LOL, i missed ur posts dude. Why is it that all the retarded people that think like this play pyro or heavy in highlander?

kirby#16 you realize you're talking to tlr right
just because he's tlr doesn't mean he should be rude like that. highlander is an enjoyable format and if people don't like it they don't have to play it. i played highlander for two seasons as a sniper in steel and had a lot of fun with my team, not to mention the times i've rang as a soldier and sniper for steel and silver teams.

it's not about whether you like hl or not, it's about you being on TLR's dick lol
people are giving infinite shit because a) he took a joke comment way out of proportion, b) he is openly hostile to and stereotyping of the elitism of invite players, and c) he has a prior history of saying things similar to this
not because the person he was saying it to was THE LEGENDARY TLR OMG LE DUBLE AIRSHOT XD
and in fact, d3ny was making a completely different point from infinite. infinite was trying to call out invite players who don't care about hl by mentioning how it leads to them losing...which makes no logical sense, because if they don't care about hl they shouldn't care about losing. d3ny is just saying that, if the invite players don't like hl they don't have to play it.

Hugh was saying that i can be played like a pub (how gorgeous gamers just last minute goes in, chooses classes, and just comes up with a strat last second) or you can play it in more of a competitive format and scrim a few times (then it can look like The Syndicate vs SNSD or bonus). In mTs case, you guys do scrim, but it still seems like the concept still isnt fully grasped that it isnt 6's with 3 more players.
I dont think he was trying to be negative at all. Just pointing it out.
TLR very well could have been poking fun at his own team. They came to play and have fun, not storm the league and win it all. It is what it is. They play for fun.

True, but imagine scrimming as like spy or sniper. I don't know about you guys but I actually like offclassing in 6s and in highlander I get the chance to mix some elements of pubs (generally not trying too hard, playing classes that are useless in certain situations) and elements of competitive (not playing with complete and utter dipshits, some level of comms and less random shit happening like crits or 8 heavies).
I think Highlander just needs a new league like ESEA or maybe CEVO (there seems to be diplomacy issues between UGC and the 6s community, and its fucking up highlander for people that might want to play it). In addition, Highlander is definitely good for the 6s world because a lot more pubbers watch highlander and say they want to play competitive tf2. Look at those 2 teams from S11 that went winless. They came from highlander, played ESEA, and were very good sports about it all.

Another thing, some HL players hate 6's, not because it sucks or anything, but because they can't play a class they like. A teammate of mine hates 6's because he cannot play engy or pyro 24/7. HL just gives them the option to main a class, and feel important.
I just want to say this since I'm here. I love both Highlander and 6's. I don't know why so many people are bitching about either one. Either you like one or both. No need to bash either one. I look at Highlander and see another option for competition. Not, "It's for pubbers" or "Just a reason to play spy."

Infinite's trying to take a shot at tyler, implying that those teams are BETTER than he is at "understanding" or "grasping" the concept of 9v9. I've got news for you buddy, the last time a team that cared about highlander with good players on it was mixup season 3. Where we took a team of 6 intermediate players, and three invite players, and lost one round the entire season. Newsflash, if the invite players playing in highlander right now really gave a shit, they would stomp all over your prized platinum teams like bonus. It's a fact that's already been proven.
Get over yourself and enjoy the league, infinite.

It felt good to beat a team like mTs, just like it felt good to beat tangerine with b4nny and cyzer playing. But I would be shocked if anyone on bonus got much of an ego from it. We pretty much all understand that if invite players practiced HL anywhere near as much as 6s it would be completely different.
It does bother me a little when some invite players make comments about HL that make the format seem like a complete joke. I could be wrong about this, but it seems like that kind of view sets an example for a lot of other people in the 6s community. Me and some of the people from bonus made an esea open team this season, and I was surprised by how many people tried to troll us or talk shit about us just because we were HL players. I guess shit talk will happen regardless, but I can see why some people who enjoy playing HL would feel ostracized. That's just been my experience in open though.
As far as the original topic goes, if anyone even cares anymore, we have squider playing scout for us this season, and it's been very interesting listening to his perspective in terms of calling and strategy. I wouldn't say it's drastically changed anything in our meta-game, and squider doesn't always make the right calls, but he's definitely been teaching us some things about pushing, advantages, and positioning. I would say the biggest change has been making the game a little more fast paced with more aggressive and coordinated plays, especially more capitalization on small advantages. I think if HL continues like this it will only get better and more organized. And that's why platinum teams like us really wanted the invite limit lifted in the first place.

This paragraph almost perfectly captures what I find to be one of the worst elements of the TF2 community, especially because I remain primarily a highlander player. One of the things people should realize is that growth in 6s can be helped by the highlander community (as pointed out by VickM), in particular by those who seek the type of intensity you find in 6s that isn't in highlander (in part because people keep shitting on highlander as pub play, which is fucking bullshit). By shitting on highlander players for playing highlander you *actively discourage* them from ever moving to a 6s format. Negative reinforcement does nothing good for anybody. The fact that so many threads around highlander seem to devolve into 6s player shitting on highlander is a pathetic testament to the quality of support the highlander community gets from the 6s crowd. To those who regularly contribute to that, please grow up and shove your ego back up your ass (that's as much trash talk as you'll get out of me, lol).
I don't want to paint the whole 6s community with the same brush - obviously there are people (even players in this thread) who understand the merits of highlander. I'd like to give a huge shoutout to those who went to ETS LAN in March who not only didn't look down on me because I was a highlander player but welcomed me into the circle for the weekend and encouraged me to play some 6s scout and have a great time! This environment definitely had me fired about about 6s, although changes in life plans shortly thereafter prevented me from capitalizing on that enthusiasm. An environment like the one I encountered at ETS LAN is something I'd love to see more of here and is something which could bring huge benefit to the community as a whole.
And on that note, nice to see more invite players in Highlander. Just stop being dicks about it.
