What the fuck?

http://oyster.ignimgs.com/wordpress/stg.ign.com/2013/08/2ds-610x486.jpg

Yes it's real, here's the introduction video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sAExBTWIp3M

It doesn't have 3D, and is $129.99

Also, Wii U price cut will be in effect starting September 20th, at 299.99.

There will also be a Wii U Zelda WW HD bundle for 299.99 as well.

Mario Party: Island Tour and A Link Between Worlds will release on November 22nd, on that day Super Mario 3D World ALSO releases.

I don't know that the design of the system is a good idea, but I actually think the 2DS will/should be successful. The only reason I didn't buy a 3DS was because of the price. Now, a system playing all the same games with newer hardware will be available for less money. I don't even care about the 3D personally! To me it has always been a gimmick. It's cool, but you buy a system for the games.

It definitely looks awkward, but I'd still prefer it to a Vita or something. 2 screens vs 1? Hmmmmmm

Aimed at kids, that's why the hinge (ie a breakable moving part) was removed. If it's just lying around the playroom or in the seat pocket of your minivan then its shape doesn't really matter.

I feel BAD for buying a Wii U now. I bought it for Wind Waker, now look what they did to me ;_;

They'll probably release a smash bundle too.

I really want to know what the battery life on the 2DS will be like.
Wii U price cut is good but I dunno if I want to get it, there still aren't a whole lot of games for it that I actually want just yet

brahI really want to know what the battery life on the 2DS will be like.

It's about half an hour longer than a regular 3DS.

I am totally buying one of these. I would only really get a 3ds for ssb4 and new leaf so the price was a bit high but this fixes that

Weird. When I went to buy one they told me it wouldn't play DS games . Unless only the XL doesn't since it has the bigger slot.

I would still end up buying the 3ds just because of the clamshell design; the 2ds seems too bulky to carry in my pocket :/

The 2DS also does away with the 3D to get rid of that nasty warning label for children under 6. So now Beverly Soccermom won't feel bad about buying it for her 4 year-old without reading the packaging.

It's also being released alongside Pokemon X & Y, which makes sense when you keep in mind who Nintendo is marketing this thing towards.

Looks more like a tablet you'd find with the blocks in a playroom. Though it's cheaper and doesn't have 3d, maybe I'll actually buy one to play ds games.

If it had the same design and size as the XL i wouldn't see any reason to buy that over this. I really very rarely use the 3d feature on mine. It's cool and all but it's just not worth the hassle of having to keep your head and the console in the right position all the time.

The only convenience I can see is an easier time propping it up sideways against a bear or something when playing in bed, since it lacks the hinge that makes the screens on different places or whatever. To elaborate, a lot of the time I should only play games that only use the stylus because using my left hand would be bending my elbow affected with cubital tunnel syndrome.

The wedge shape is pretty weird, I think they could have just included a stand or something outright.

$40 cheaper sounds like a pretty good deal. I don't think the hinge loss is a bad thing, I personally have no pockets large enough to hold a DS Lite, and I probably wouldn't feel comfortable taking something that expensive out with me anyway.

As stupid as it looks, pretty good move by Nintendo.

This makes sense to me. Nintendo probably has market data suggesting that a lot of people didn't buy a 3ds because they disliked the 3d effect and felt that they were wasting their money on a piece of tech that they didn't utilize to the fullest capacity. The 2ds gives nintendo an opportunity to tap into this market kinda like how movie theaters would have days where they'd show 3d movies in 2d.

The lower price and ostensibly sturdier build design makes it a more appealing choice to parents who want to get it for their kid. Also the library of good 3ds games has been growing, and the 2ds may be the tipping point for people on the fence about getting a 3ds.

Curiously, the 2DS is even more of a tablet-style system than it appears at first glance, as it actually features a single large screen in its center, not two separate ones. As one of their cost-cutting design measures, Nintendo reduced the number of screens in the system from two to one, and the appearance of separate screens is merely simulated by the way the case masks out the extraneous portions. This means the entire screen is by necessity a touchscreen, with the upper screen protected by a layer of plastic that sits above it.

It's one big touchscreen but they broke it up into two with plastic, then blocked the touch input on the upper one with a covering.

UltrazStill can't play GBA games if it did I would have been all over this.

Grab a DS lite or a GBA Micro off of Amazon unless you were looking for the 3DS/GBA combo. I'm gonna be grabbing the latter soon, that Micro is legitimately hella portable. I think they still make GBA flashcarts, too.

I know this looks weird. To be honest, it was even unexpected. But Nintendo put up a good reason, and I say, this was an interesting idea. This could help boost the sales since it has good value, and it releases the same date as Pokemon X and Y.

Also, this is aimed for kids at young age. It can cause health problems for kids that young if they use the 3D function, and the slated design is probably made to avoid the youngsters from breaking the hinges of a regular, clam-shelled 3DS. What I also find great about this is that it's also great for people at an older age who may have severe health problems with the 3D function, or for people who'd want to save their money and have a good budget.

Also, with the 50 dollar price drop on the Wii U it's great. And with the bundle? Holy shells, how is this not going help Nintendo at best? I respect Nintendo for their recent doings, because they're not just focusing on almost everybody, they're focusing on everybody. We were kids before, and kids have a wild curiosity, and curiosity makes dreams. Don't back them down and tell them to go to their rooms or sit down, let them try something new and experience it. Only if it's the right time to do so.

Another thing I'd like to point out, I believe the slated design came from the original Game Boy.
