I dislike it. If it's used enough online advertising becomes profitless, which is already a huge deal for places like twitch. Most people who use adblocker will never disable it for specific sites (you can check the people who whined there was a bar where ads should be on this site).

In my point of view, this is going to drive YouTube, Twitch.tv and other websites which use ads to fund their websites out of business. I will not download an app to skip a 30 second add, I want to support those YouTubers in any way I can.

Would you rather have ads on videos and stuff or have to pay to view it? Your choice guys.

It's fine as long as only a few people use it and it remains relatively unknown.

However, if everyone start using it, sooner or later websites will have to come up with some other way of pushing advertisements in order to generate money. And those will probably be a lot more intrusive, or involve completely denying access to certain pages unless adblock is disabled.

I dislike it also. Pretty much what brownymaster said also. It's not that hard to really let an ad load or go by for a few seconds. Especially when you can skip the ad. I think if they made more ads skippable, or 15-20 seconds instead of 30 it'll be alright.

I added a filter in adblock for TF.TV hardly noticed a difference, the ads aren't very intrusive here.

That's the problem though, I personally use adblock, and I disable it for sites that I go on regularly (webcomics, tftv, ect), however for me to then tell everyone else not to use it for the good of the internet is quite hypocritical. On the other hand, if everyone does use it, it will cause changes to the internet (some negative), in the same way piracy is changing the music market.

If ads weren't a whole thirty seconds I probably wouldn't care nearly as much. I will decide not to watch something rather than face a long advertisement because I just don't have the patience for something about men's hair gel.

I think this guy's solution isn't a solution at all, but a door to another larger issue. A better action to take would be spreading the word about Subbable. CGP Grey has started using it as an alternative to advertisements in his videos, and it was founded by the Vlogbrothers, so for the user and by the user.

Yeah. I disable adblock on places where I consume content: twitch.tv, yt, tf.tv, etc..

At the end of the day I am only blocking ads on a tiny portion of site but the sites that do have ads imo deserve the money and are nonintrusive.

I like ads. there's something about knowing i have the ability to, if even in a very small and almost insignificant way, help the people who's content i enjoy every day.

I'm fine with non-intrusive ads, but commercials that you're forced to watch at the start of a video annoy me and just waste my time

Using adblock just makes you selfish. I don't understand why Google doesn't block it from chrome. It is probably too late now since people would flip due to its popularity.

I don't think that blocking intrusive, flashy, irritating ads is selfish. I don't even have OCD but goddamn.

brownymasterI dislike it. If it's used enough online advertising becomes profitless, which is already a huge deal for places like twitch. Most people who use adblocker will never disable it for specific sites (you can check the people who whined there was a bar where ads should be on this site).

On the flipside, more people using adblockers means fewer incompetent users getting viruses, which equals smaller botnets and such. If in the future adblock implements a "allow non-obtrusive ads" setting (without taking bribes like adblock plus does) and it's already used by a majority of the population it would provide a very strong incentive for advertisers to improve the quality of their ads.

For some reason most ad providers give me ads that take forever to load and that prevents my greasemonkey scripts from running, so I used adblock almost everywhere. I don't use it on stream pages or the main pages of this site though, mostly because I don't really need my scripts there.

Around 70% of the viewers on Twitch.tv use ad block.

Think about that for a minute. Imagine if you ran a restaurant, and 70% of the people who came in didn't pay? I'm sure you could find a way to make it profitable, but it's pretty hard. Like even for a guy just streaming to try and make a living. Even if you got that down to 40%, that's the difference between barely making ends meet, and living comfortably.

Personally I put my money where my mouth is and don't use ad block, but trust me, if Joe average starts using Ad Block, the internet will be a very different looking place.

As an amateur webmaster and having owned my fair share of sites in the past I can tell you how much this affects and impacts how the whole internet works. Internet ventures are profitable simply because of advertising.

99% of the sites you browse have no implicit costs to visit them, they are free for you to visit, but they are still spending money with each visit (bandwitch, etc, etc...) Only advertising makes it work.

Personally as much as I would love to, I avoided using adblock for the most of the time I have been on the internet. Only very recently (2,3 months ago) I have started to use it and only because of those silly sites with super introsive ads, and click to like and share on facebook before vieweing the content, etc... And I still whitelist every site I use regularly

there's an option for that already

I believe that's adblock plus, not adblock, and they are different organizations.
