Testing lag

Wasn't exactly where to put this but I bought that shitty Acer 120hz about 5 months ago, and I know it has BAD lag. The thing I am trying to figure how bad it is, I am using a laser (g5 that I rebuilt, b/c I love them) from one season it seems more difficult to hit a damn thing. I just wanna find something that shows how late my shots are coming since I feel I did better without this shitty monitor.

From what I've been told, if you don't get 120+ FPS constantly, a 120hz monitor would hurt more than it helped.

This is the dumbest thing i've ever heard. Even if you only get like ~80+ consistently, its better than a 60hz, and even if what you were saying wasn't complete bullshit, you can easily change the monitor to 60hz in the windows settings.

If you have a high FPS camera you could probably take a video of you pressing a key on your keyboard and see how many frames it takes for the character to show up on screen. Otherwise you could pick up a low-end CRT off craigslist and compare the two. (Make sure your computer has a VGA/Dual-link DVI output first)

but according to this article http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/ultrasharp-u2711-ds-277w-multisync-pa271w,2968-14.html, the Acer GD235HZ has 73ms input lag (plus 16ms gray/gray)

The monitor is notorious for having horrid input lag. I got it when it was really discounted, so I have it a shot. I had an older 60hz Acer before this one and never had problems with it. While the 120hz looks so much smoother, it really feels like every shot is a second later for when I shoot.

I don't have a camera like that and the other issue is that I have a small desk that won't fit two monitors. I was hoping there was some kind of program that would be able to test it, but google isn't finding shit.

Thanks grape. Is that the one that will only work with optical mice? While I do have one that I could use, I was just wondering since I would have to find it when I get home from work.

is it the GD235hz? I had that one. It's still an upgrade if you're switching to it from a 60hz, but it definitely has input lag. Don't overthink it though -- it could have more of a psychological effect on your gameplay than anything else.

Yeah it is. While I have learn to prefire against most classes, the issue comes when trying to prefire a scout. Not only is it harder to do, it's difficult to even know exactly when/where I should prefire and that is why I was looking for a program to determine exactly has much lag is there.
