The hype for this game is blown so out of proportion it's starting to get annoying. When i see people who don't even know what valve is or that never even touched a HL game hyping this it gets rather silly.
I didn't play the first one, loved the second one, and I'm interested to see what the third one is bringing to the table in terms of groundbreaking mechanics, but I hate all the hype around it. Especially the "gamur gurls" who go to 9gag and make hl 3 jokes and dont even know what steam is.

Truly amazing single player FPS games a rare thing. The entire HL series (1, 2, and the episodes) are to games what breaking bad was to television.

MunchBut... TFC and CS were both mods of HL1
Also both HL1 and HL2 are on my list of games that everyone should be required to play.
i know that
i was just never into single player games

Hype is hype but I think the faith that fans have in valve is justified. The ending of episode 2 doesn't suggest that they intended to wait this long before the next release, so what I'm assuming happened is they were working on Episode 3 as just another episode that continued the story, then Crysis came out and they realised that what they were capable of making then just wasn't going to stand up on the FPS stage any more. Since they've put off development this long I think it's fair to say they're not going to release it until they're ahead of the curve.

Honestly if they released it now on the Source engine Id be thrilled even. I fucking love the story. And of course the gameplay is superb.

Gonna be honest, I don't think Half Life 1 or 2 hold up that well. They are great well made games, sure, but they are mostly famous games because of their strong single player narrative, facial/animation quality, physics quality, and their modding potential. The former 3 things are things that just won't blow you away nowadays since there are tons of games that match said quality really or do those things. Modding potential owns but doesn't make the base game itself good.
I've tried to play Half Life 2 numerous times over the years (didn't have it when it just came out), and I can never get past the part where you're driving a buggy in a desert. It's so boring.
The interesting part of Half Life 3 will be what they try to improve on is, since that's been the thing to Half Life really. HL1 had the narrative which was mostly unique, HL2 had the facial animations & physics...I can't imagine where Valve goes from there that hasn't been done already really well?

BUt Im not bashing the fans or faith the fans have, Im bashing the bandwagoning of people who don't even play PC and never touched a Valve game and make HL jokes and go with the HL3 hype because it's so witty and edgy.
I don't mind at all about fans loving a game, I have great hopes in it as well, but I hate all the non-gamers going with this hype, its getting rather silly everytime valve announces something you get plastered with hundreds of messages saying the same thing HL 3 AMIRITE GUISE ??!?! DAE 2013 2+0+1=3 HL 3 CONFIRMED, omg so edgy xd !!111

I played HL2 pretty late, so by the time I got around to it, it was pretty par-the-course in terms of shooter mechanics and I never got the urge to go back and try HL1 as a result.
From what I've garnered it was groundbreaking at the time of release, so if the trend continues, I'm definitely eager to see what HL3 can bring.

edit: the site crashed so here is the original text:
We can now confirm that the "Half-Life 3" trademark has been removed from the Trademarks and Design Registration Office of the European Union (OHIM) website. The entrant appears to have disappeared entirely after only being listed on the website database for little over a week, allowing us to identify that the trademark's listing was more than likely a hoax intended to generate fake buzz for a game which is unlikely to appear for several years. Returning readers may remember when we had discussed how the "Half-Life 3" listing was previously never officially checked or authenticated before its removal.
On October 2nd 2013, a brand new trademark filing appeared on the same site, this time for "Portal 3", which is listed under the trademark number of "012190286". While this new filing should almost definitely be taken with a rather large pinch of salt, we can confirm that the "Portal 3" listing appears to have been appropriately examined by OHIM, unlike the previously listed "Half-Life 3" trademark. Thanks to the recent sneak peak into Valve's Jira account, we can confirm that there is currently no "Portal 3" development team within the company, highlighting that this brand new listing is also very likely a hoax of some kind, regardless of whether or not it has been officially examined. We'll keep you posted if and when we learn more.

There's a difference between saying you haven't played a game and being obnoxious. If the posts were exactly the same then I could understand your frustration, but if you read both posts I don't see how you couldn't recognize that they were totally different contextually.

This was really fishy anyways. Valve already owns the trademark for Half life. They don't need to file for each sequel, half life 2-3-4-5 is covered by the same trademark.

Half life 2 is on sale today. Today's date is the 5th. 5-2=3. HL3 confirmed
But seriously, if you're saying you haven't played it yet just buy it and play it, it's only 2.50.

i'm genuinely curious, is that how trademarks law works?
