Just for clarification, should teams sound like they're sponsored (like Classic Mixup) or are names like Budsquad and Disney Channel Celebs (And any clean humor name) fine?
And I'm just gonna assume Spooning with Boon is not ok, rip

Not trying to sound like a dick, but it seems kind of hypocritical to do this if casters still swear in the actual casts.

A step in the right direction. Good decision.
I love tf2 and one of the biggest things that would put me off watching any match were incredible unprofessional team or player names, particularly in ETF2L when fakenicking was allowed IN PREM, thank god for the username rule now.
I could only imagine how a complete beginner to the scene would feel after seeing something like that.
In a game where we struggle so much to get bigger, and more professional these things should be considered standard practise across all scenes

Any one else feel like the sole reason tf2 is not esports, is because of djc? I for one take my position very seriously. Good day, Sir.

Mason's team name really isn't that offensive honestly, I think most people that would have access to the cast would agree that it's not that morally reprehensible. I think generally everyone can agree that we want fuck crosses the line, but honestly each of them paid $18.00 and premium so they can name their team whatever they want. There isn't really any incentive for them to change it, obviously they could change it to something they like that isn't offensive. If that's the name they like the most then they should be getting harassed for it. They paid for it after all.
I had typed up a bit more about why we exhaust ourselves trying to get newer players to join and stand idly by and watch the older, more experienced players leave without any real consideration, but it doesn't feel like the right place and it clearly wouldn't be received so well. Just be warned, in general every season a good teams (people who synergize well, have a good plan, and each individually hold their own) are dying and the players are quitting. That's pretty depressing from a competitors perspective and it makes for bad games to watch.

I don't get it; cleaning up team names is obviously going to bring us a step closer to being taken seriously as a game, even if it's a small step. Also, nobody is saying these teams are offensive and need to change their names or else; they're saying they won't be casted unless they change.
Honestly, I don't see why this is a debate: if you want to be casted, make sure your name is appropriate. If you don't want to change your name, you won't be; pretty simple.
As a side note, I do agree that if you're going to enforce a rule like this, then you should also be extra, extra careful about swearing during the cast itself.

Every time this is discussed this is what it boils down to, and just this. If you think other EEEEEEESPORTS don't have names ranging from mildly to very offensive you need to get your head checked, and there are already a million instances of casters swearing. Game is rated M for a reason.

I don't expect it to, but we will still not cast your games if the team name is inappropriate (the entire point of the topic)

Its not about being taken seriously or attracting sponsors. This is about the first time someone on the internet has a chance to see TF2 being played competitively. What do they notice? What sticks in their mind - is it the fast pace, awesome teamwork, or sick plays?
I'm surprised this never came up before to be honest. Baby Punching Marathon gets tons of coverage.

TheJesterNot trying to sound like a dick, but it seems kind of hypocritical to do this if casters still swear in the actual casts.
Honestly, I think casually swearing is fine even on a professional level. 2GD swears a ton, and he's a popular enough overall personality to have been a major part of this year's International. As long as you draw a line somewhere and don't overuse profanity or start throwing racial slurs out, there's no problem.
The problem with naming yourself or your team things like this is it's ultimately up to the sponsor or caster if the names are appropriate. You're basically forcing their hand and making things more difficult for yourselves.

IMO swears arent inappropriate, but once you start getting into words that involve specific demographics; IE. retard, autistic, faggot, various racial slurs, rape, etc. THATS when a line should be drawn, not because a team is named "WE WANT FUCK" like come on.
Also, 7ckingMad says hi. In the end, it doesn't matter what I think as it's a TF.TV thing and if people don't want to change their name from things then they don't have to. It's just that it's all a bit silly in my opinion.

It's not about censorship, its about tf.tv not wanting to represent the community with casts that have "inappropriate" words in them. That's as much tf.tv's right as it is someone who paid $18 to have a main roster and have the name be whatever they want.
I don't think anyone is saying you have to change your name or you're killing tf2. They just won't cast your matches.
From a professional standpoint (tf.tv), it makes sense, you don't see a lot respectable small businesses with fuck in them. From a casual standpoint (we want fuck), who cares they just wanna play videogames.
TL;DR the first post states the rules if you wanna get casted. If you don't care about being casted, then who gives a flying fuck.

It would be great if it wasn't so vulgar for when my sons start playing soon. But I guess it's a pipe dream with so many edgy nerds wanting to sound cool. :/

I think the general problem with this thread is that it's not specified whether or not this is a specific warning or whether or not this is an expression of the general rule TFTV is going to follow.
In the case of specific targeting, asking we want fuck and mason's team to change their names privately would've been better and ultimately would probably arrive at a solution without the appearance of forcing anyone's hand.
In the case of the general rule as to why some matches aren't being casted I feel like this should've been some kind of article or included in some kind of rule post. This kind of nonchalant forum post doesn't really give the authority it deserves and appears to me, at least, to be directed mainly at the two Main teams mentioned above.
In short, think before you post.
EDIT: Response to Fog. That's clear to me now after a second reading, but my criticism in the third paragraph still stands and I think it would have been better to avoid specific examples of existing teams.
EDIT: Smaka is right.

I'm just gonna leave this here as a reminder of what spectators could think of other eSports when the teams have stupid names.

Not to poop in your cheerios, but there is no "general problem" with this thread. The OP was straightforward and should not have warranted a debate. It was pretty clear that nobody was asking/begging/forcing anyone to change team names--the OP simply said that Fog and crew will not be casting any games if your team name is deemed inappropriate for the cast. Simple.
