A friend of mine has pretty bad anxiety problems, about a month ago he started exercising a lot, eating healthy, and drinking a lot of water. He seems a lot better now, but he still has his moments.

Best of luck to you dude

aside from things like therapy and advice from medical professionals, everyone deals with things like anxiety and depression in their own way

we should use this thread to try and help people with those issues, not shit on other people

depression sux mate but u'll be alright i know it don't be afraid to ask for help or talk to people who love you

pls exercise and take care of yourself

stop the video games if they're exacerbating your issues

also meds can be dope but everybody's body chemistry is different and the only way to know if they'll work for you is to try them, don't not try something because someone told you not to

it all starts with your thoughts. if you have sad and depressing thoughts you are most likely going to be depressed. force yourself to have nice thoughts and focus on the positive.

You need professional help like mentioned before. I wouldn't take advice on forums like this too serious...

Still one internet-forum-advice from me: Don't play videogames/have internetfriends as a replacement for a social life or because you want to avoid contact to ppl in rl because of your anxiety. Steam friends =/= rl buddies or social life (in 99.99%).

honestly you're the biggest dick in the world. you talk shit in game and then when you are proven wrong or beaten, you go on tf.tv to ruin someone's day even if they are going through hard times.

I suggest spending one afternoon changing something you don't like about yourself. Start with something easy, your style of dress or your hair. Really sit down and look at your options, see what you like and what you don't like. Ask someone else what they think. Better yet, ask a girl. Any girl. Ask a girl who works at the hair salon or clothing store. Please note that your mom is also a girl. I'm sorry you had to find out this way (you're now acutely aware that everything your mother ever tried to do for you was to mold you into someone girls would want to date). They love that shit. If they have any shred of decency they will help you and give you honest advice. You may get a weird look or a chuckle but most will help. Just ask. Again, this is just one afternoon of slight embarrassment, I'm not talking about a 1980's montage although listening to the Rocky soundtrack may help.

I don't think these things ever truly go away, it's part of how you see the world. I've dealt with suicidal thoughts my entire adult life, panic attacks on the regular. I started taking happy pills and went to the therapy sessions, which helped a tad. What really made a difference is I started changing all the things about myself that I didn't like that I could change on my own. I stopped dressing like a piece of shit, stopped slouching like a piece of shit, cut my hair to look less like a piece of shit, and sure enough I felt like less of a piece of shit. I'll always be a piece of shit but now I feel better about looking myself in the mirror. That's largely based on people looking at me more positively, my first impressions were better. That may sound strange to admit but I don't know in what neckbeard universe you live in where the opinions of others, especially those whom you respect, honestly doesn't have an effect on you. Happiness is largely based on the quality of your relationships. That's a two way street. There's only so much time people will spend on a lost cause, you have to be willing to change. Try to be a better person and people will treat you better and respond to you better. It may not sound fair, it may sound pretty damn shallow, but that's reality whether you like it or not.

Or you could sit in your room, play another round of tf2, and complain about the world. Sooner or later you will realize that the world isn't listening.

Do you have any really close friends that in your mind wouldn't be bothered by you talking to them more? The best way to try to get anywhere is to have somebody connect you socially or else you'll just spiral out of touch and keep feeling awful. A good psychiatrist/counselor can also help a lot since they usually become someone you can talk to and start trusting. Still you need to be getting as much social contact as you can tolerate outside of sessions like that. Also, figuring out a way to get into a social situation can be good (volunteering or something). I heard Badoo is ok, but I'm not into those types of social sites.

And, as always, there's a lot of people online. ChatRoullete or something, it can help you filter through. Great time waster at the very least, and you don't have to worry about any lasting social effects (unless you do something like put your name/information out there, so don't be stupid). Staying in your comfort zone at home makes it seem a lot less like you're changing your habits, as mentally breaking a habit is extremely hard. It's better to try to blur your boundaries a bit.
