r-recorder...
going to an arts high for sax rn, id totally recommend buying a keyboard first
theyre versatile as shit if you end up playing with composition or production
and if you decide to pick up another instrument knowing keyboard will help a lot
theyre really fun to play considering you have a virtual band to accompany you whenever you want

I play trumpet. I like jazz more than anything else though. This is me filling in someone's solo who missed a gig about a year ago.

Also, handbells! They're actually pretty awesome, especially when you have to weave your hands to play different melodies and stuff.

Been playing guitar for 3 years, trying to teach myself flamenco atm coz hopefully that'll impress females.
Also I've always want to learn the double bass, that has to be the coolest instrument ever

I play most brass instruments, but my favorites are French horn for concert season and trumpet for marching season.
piano on and off for all my life, drums (particularly swing drums) for 5 years, bass for 3 years, and i recently started self teaching myself guitar in open g tuning with a copper slide
.
also i just bought a really cheap hohner harmonica last night and i don't know how to play it but it's a lot of fun.

emoI march for Blue Devils with my nice Baritone. When i was in high school I played the alto sax and tenor sax and winter percussion
I don't think most people understand the talent it takes to be in a corps of that caliber. Blue Devils are incredible.

played both violin and viola, currently playing viola tho :v
also i learned the hard way that viola literally has no power in an orchestra

Played the violin from 2nd grade till I graduated high school.
Haven't touched a violin in months, though the last time I played one I could still do put out a good tune.

20 years of guitar
17 bass
dabbled in percussion for many years (still cannot play a shaker for shit), banjo, keys, violin, harmonica
I've played in funk, country, blues, soul, rock, bluegrass, reggae, samba, jazz, punk, and probably some other types of bands I can't recall right now. Musical omnivore.
At one point I tried to transition over to music as my sole income, but didn't end up as stoked to get home and pick up an instrument to just play for the fun of it when I was rehearsing, gigging, recording, teaching, or learning songs for other projects 7 days a week. I enjoy music far more if I'm free to explore it largely on my own terms when inspiration strikes.
If I could start over I would play violin, B3 (keys), sax or trumpet. Bass is ridiculously fun though! Piano is probably the most versatile instrument you can play.

I used to play the harp but one day my dad was like "fuck this takes up too much space" and sold it
I miss my harp :(
I can also "play" the guitar, ocarina, and harmonica, but I'm not very good at them. Harmonica is pretty fun and also pretty easy and portable, which are probably good things for beginners.

I played piano for ~10 years before getting tired of not being able to play music whenever I felt like it (seeing as pianos are rather hard to lug around with you). I played trumpet for about 6 years, but ultimately I didn't enjoy it that much. I recently picked up guitar and I've started trying to learn to sing as well, and it's been a blast.
I think starting out with piano helped me a ton in picking up other instruments faster, you tend to learn a lot about musical theory when learning it.

I randomly bought a ukulele around five years ago. I did want to learn to play the guitar but as my room was small, I'd have to get it out / pack it up each time I wanted to play it. With a ukulele, I simply placed it on a small shelf behind my desk chair.
This worked out well as I'd grab the ukulele on map changes / computer restarts / downloads and just, give it a little play (and I still do this). I'm not as good on the ukulele as I should be after this long playing it, but I've never really tried to get better. I just learnt all of the chords and when I hear a song I like on the radio, I look up the chords and just, play it. It's great fun.
My brother bought me an electric guitar which I did start learning, but it was just so much effort compared to the uke that I haven't bothered to progress very far at all with it.
I also play the drums and piano little, beatbox, and mess around with PC generated music. I hope to learn how to sing better as there's much more use for that than playing an instrument. Can use that in the car, shower, karaoke or find someone else who can play something :)
