They threatened to sue for a million then settled for $60,000?

Something tells me ESEA can afford that without much of an issue. Sigh.

Wait what's going on here so now they officially injected malware into computers and can't even call it an accident anymore? They officially infected player's PCs to collect their data why is there even a debate about still maybe playing in that league in the future?

The butler has been confirmed the murderer, you don't keep him employed, time to get off the ship!

I'm with Spartan, I think you're all missing the point.

Every-single-person who has ever installed the ESEA client (since who knows when), have a backdoor on their computers right now (from what people have said). So now everyone has to either dig through their computers/registrys and try to find it, or reinstall. I mean, for some people I guess they may not care about their computer security, but I am literally going to burn my old HD that had ESEA on it.

I can only hope that the players in ESEA all stop playing and unregister from Premium.

Wait, I don't understand. Does this mean that ESEA is still currently running this system monitoring computers and taking bitcions to this day? Or was this an issue during Spring/Summer and the client is updated and no longer has this system on it.

The settlement that was signed makes explicitly clear that we do not agree, nor do we admit, to any of the State of New Jersey's allegations. The press release issued by the Attorney General about our settlement represents a deep misunderstanding of the facts of the case, the nature of our business, and the technology in question.

haha were gonna pay u guys but we didnt fuck up

Do the CS players even know about the ESEA Monitoring Code? I noticed ESEA ~conveniently~ left it out of their statement.

Someone should call them out about it but I'm legitimately concerned they'll get banhammered straight off the face of ESEA

A league is a spreadsheet, a banlist, and some form of anticheat. None of these are particularly hard to do, but to do them to the same degree and quality as ESEA would be a bit of a bitch. You would get points for not spying on people though.

It is likely that their code was removed through an ESEA client update after they were caught. It is not 100% certain that this is the case. If you want to be certain, save your pertinent files, wipe your HD, and re-install windows.

Nobody should have to 'buy a new windows key' like kissme suggests. There are freeware tools that will allow you to extract your key from your current OS (make sure you do that before the wipe if you don't know your current key).

Someone please explain to me why a LAN is so fucking important. 95% of everyone that plays doesn't go to it. Open finals doesn't go to LAN. IM finals doesn't go to LAN. Only invite goes to LAN.

Does the community simply not have the dedication to actually join CEVO? CEVO has a prize pot. It doesn't have an entry fee. It doesn't have premium. Why the fuck does not having a LAN suddenly invalidate all of this?

If anyone is seriously considering starting a new league, I'd like to make a suggestion:

Don't make it a free league. Free league after free league has popped up, but none have really attracted top level competition. If a paid league gets started and the top players play it instead of ESEA, the others will follow and it might actually get enough money to host a lan/modest prize money.

LAN keeps the top players going (Players have said this many times), without the top players the scene is dead. Simple as that. New leagues have never failed to get low-level players, but if low level players join a league the high level players won't necessarily join it, however, if the high level players join a league the low level players will most likely flock to it.
