brownymasterMan there's so much great drama recently. ESEA is found to be putting backdoors/spying, then blinky comes out as an anti-Semite, then twitch speed runners get screwed over by a gay furry. It's time for the revolution.

Any ESEA staff are welcome to hide under my floorboards until blink's nerd rage has subsided. I've seen Schindler's List like three times so don't worry I got this shit.

should nuke the blink pages... thread was going places and the community was showing some nice solidarity until them, making every argument before and after linked to an unfortunate anti-Semitic rant. Shouldn't let 8 pages of good material marred by 2 pages of ridiculousness.

I want to clarify to the community that I was not jumping on board in making a new league with AG. I have been overwhelmed with the chats ect in regards to this and I love you all for having such confidence and faith.
I was wanting to bring people together to decide on the best move for the community as a whole and use the resources that we already have at our disposal. This is just my opinion but I think we should approach CEVO. They already have a good client, from the feedback I got, and the experience. The only thing that is really missing here is $$$ and lan. Why don't we attach a CEVO season to a lan around all of NA instead of just one place? This is a great idea that was presented to me. For example, Quakecon in Dallas, PAX in the East and West and heck why not Lancouver in Canada! Its just over the border! If CEVO was to attach the lan in correspondence with the season it could work.
I don't want to reinvent the wheel guys and again I am here as a support to bring people together and even financially to back up a league.
I apologize for any misunderstandings in my first post. I am sure we will come up with something. All I know for sure is that AG will never support ESEA again.

I'm pretty sure "Thunberg" is actually a Swedish name anyway, but I doubt Blinky has any stereotypes about Swedes to fall back on.
With that out of the way, I'll say the idea of a new league by the players and for the players is interesting, but how many times in the past have similar plans evaporated?
Exactly how many times has the community reacted to some ESEA scandal (and there have been many of those) by demanding a new league? I can tell you it was a lot of times, but I can't tell you much of anything specific, because the memories all bleed together, because the same thing always happened. The community's collective willpower seemed to vanish completely after only a month or two every time.
Now that I've done my usual routine of cynically reminding the community of all the times they have felt similarly about ESEA and ended up doing nothing about it can you really "this time will be different"? I can tell you that "this time" will not be different if the community does the same thing it always does. We need to come up with something concrete before everyone forgets how shitty ESEA is. We also need to accept that any league we create would, at least in the short term, be inferior to ESEA in many ways. We can't try to have our cake and eat it too anymore.

NahanniI think we should approach CEVO.
http://www.cevo.com/forums/board/9/team-fortress-2/
Why not ask them? Have someone make a thread there to show our interest? Surely it would be a step in the direction of moving away from ESEA. At least this way anything wanted like a LAN could be confirmed or denied, and then we can make a decision after they show us their offer for the community.

I think that the most important reason for trying to build a league from the ground up is in order to try to create the best league possible. We know what complaints we had with ESEA and we know what disadvantages other leagues have.
We have the dreams, we have the ideas, we have the knowledge, we have the skills. Obviously this cannot be completed by one person working alone or with some spare change lying around or in the span of a few weeks (believe me, I've tried), but it's not like we don't have the resources to get it done.
I can't say that we'll necessarily succeed right off the bat, but it's better to try to innovate rather than settle.

tomroadrunnerLet's get back onto the topic of how Nahanni and Apocalypse Gaming are going to be the saviors of competitive TF2. VIVA AG
Just an fyi, I wasn't trying to spook you, Nahanni, I wasn't expecting you to put the community on your back or anything, just that you're one of the few "big voices" that is showing some initiative.

So I know CEVO is already established, but do we really want to outsource our league again? CEVO could do the same things that ESEA is doing to us right now. I'd prefer to keep our leagues in the TF2 community.
That said, the only options are UGC and ETF2L. UGC is willing to work with us, and ETF2L is also. However, UGC is not taken seriously by most people, and ETF2L will not support the NA ruleset, at least during the transition. Honeatly, I think we could make a better league than what we have. We could take the good ideas of ESEA (stats, built-in pugs, scrims) and improve them and make them fit our individual needs. The tf2.gg devs are willing to help out with this, so we basically have some sort of base there.
Here's a preliminary poll for what to do, because why not: http://strawpoll.me/741278

So any chance I can get in on this class action lawsuit? I'm poor and want some money. And I want to see ESEA go out of business. Can we start lawsuits in all 50 states? That'd be pretty boss.
Also, I'll be changing my bank passwords and such tomorrow, now that I've uninstalled the ESEA driver. If you are security minded, it is the responsible thing to do. No telling what got captured/uploaded by the backdoor. I don't want to wake up to a $5000 bank transfer to lpkane's account in Tijuana six months from now.

If people put the same amount of effort making a new league then they did posting memes, you'd already have 50 community run leagues better than ESEA.

Is the CEVO client OSS? I would love a client that runs natively in linux, thats probably the main reason i never got around to making an open team with some friends.

Then the cheat makers look at the code and write cheats that won't get caught...
cevo's paladin is just as proprietary as esea's client.

i personally see anticheats like antiviruses almost because they operate with similar goals, to stop the bad guy. the bad guy is always going to be a little ahead because by their very nature, anticheats/antiviruses are reactive and need to be able to pick up on what the bad guy is doing. while open sourcing the anticheat will allow the cheat makers to look at what the ac is trying to do to detect it, even if the anticheat was not closed source, the cheat makers will manage to make it so that it's undetectable until someone gets the anticheat team a copy of the cheat so they can look at what exactly it does to try and defeat it. an open source anticheat can work as long as the team working on it is diligent and uses good methods to detect things that cheats commonly do etc instead of just reacting to each cheat as it comes out. just like how clamav is a perfectly fine open source antivirus.

That's backwards. etf2l has the best anti-cheat with no client. ESEA client's anti-cheat was rubbish, basically just placebo.
