I'm glad I didn't back this kickstarter now, even though the game looked amazing before.
Feminism shouldn't be a dirty word. Someone having "a history of vocal feminism" shouldn't disqualify them for any job, even a job working on the internet.
She obviously handled the situation poorly, but you can bet that there's a ton of shit we didn't see. I'm willing to bet that locking her twitter was in part the result of some particularly vicious PMs.
Nepotism isn't okay, no. However, nepotism isn't this woman's fault. If you think she got hired because of nepotism and have a problem with it, the fault is with the company, so attack the company, not her.
Three popular games starring female protagonists and a handful of games with optional gender do not make the demographics of games as a whole even. Furthermore, even if demographics WERE balanced, it doesn't mean this game in particular should totally have a male protagonist.
Fuck this.

Her art is pretty terrible and the way she handled PR in this situation was pretty bad, but I want to see this blow over just to spite those nerds I see all the time who read 4chan like a bible and care way too much and never stop railing on about feminists and tumblr.
And I say that as a long, long-time fan of Mega Man whose heart was crushed by MML3's cancellation and a backer of this project. I'm pretty sure that if feminists start blaming this debacle on misogyny, they'd be pretty right. This is literally just 4channers and youtube commenters making a big deal over nothing; unless the big bad feminist community liason convinces Inafune to turn the game into Beck's personal journey to locate his cis privilege with in-game advertisements for Gone Home, castration-advocate lobby groups, and Mountain Dew, I'm pretty sure there's no reason to be alarmed for the integrity of the project.

Irrelevant, seems like exactly the kind of thing you would avoid showing with the argument you have going. All i see is self-proclaimed feminists engaging in petty name-calling.

I don't see how this is her fault? Who wouldn't jump on the opportunity to work with development of a pretty big game? Surely it's the staff's responsibility to make sure the people they hire are qualified? Seems to me like the usual internet misogyny is faulting this girl for something that is very obviously not solely her fault.

i literally cannot fathom how people are so up in arms about this. the only thing you can virtually be upset by is the dudes who started the kickstarter going back on their promises. if the actual premise of a video game of a cute female robot killing other cute female robots irritates you, there's something wrong with you. if you want to blame this dina chick for the fact that she got a sweet job handed to her, you're an idiot. you shouldn't be mad at HER for nepotism, you should be angry at the moron that hired an unqualified individual. PS this happens all of the time in the gaming industry. plenty of males who have never played a game in their life working there. people who act like THAT'S the thing that makes them mad is just desperately grasping for straws so that they can continue shitting on a feminist agenda. (and i think we all know how much gamers love feminist agendas. nothing quite like angry manchildren and high schoolers who have a hardon for "retro" shit they didn't play when it was popular being totally reasonable and unbiased in their criticisms of this dana lady.)
in my eyes, there's only a small number of dudes who are upset by promises being broken. most of the people who are angry ARE sweaty, entitled misogynistic nerds. i hate to throw around stereotypes, but nearly every single person i see get mad about this is writing up some hate-filled bullshit on reddit and gets upvotes by other, less articulate sweaty, entitled misogynistic nerds, and ALL of it is either unfairly pinning blame on dina, using the "broken kickstarter promises" as an excuse to bash her "agenda", or just bluntly shitting on the very concept of a megaman game with female robots.
oh, and if i'm not wrong, backing the project does not mean you have a say in the art direction of the game. you literally CANNOT get mad about the fact that this chick came in and decided to flip flop the genders because nobody ever said you had a say in it to begin with. you're just throwing internet tantrums to absolutely no avail.
there's like no organization to this post, i'm just rapidly typing out of sheer rage. i never identify as a gamer because the stigma against them is palpable, and "debacles" like this one tells me i'm right every time i say "i play games" instead of "i'm a gamer".
MagusMr_OwlIf you have an issue with this woman joining the team (to the point where you'd withdraw support from a game you otherwise endorse), you're part of the problem.
The problem is, SHE'S NEVER PLAYED FUCKING MEGAMAN.
irrelevant, she's a pr manager and an art designer. lots of males in the game industry who don't play the games they help make.

nepotism isn't ok
it sure isn't. good thing it's not her fault. but wait! it's convenient for you to blame her for getting a free job and having the AUDACITY to accept it! i guess it is her fault now.

You mean to do away with the idea of gender roles. Insisting that there are is a fallacy in the whole concept of feminism.
Any and all feminists have deluded themselves into believing as such because of their own insecurities and/or failure to identify themselves as individuals, so they've created this idea that woman are seen as non-equals to men.
It's hard to imagine somebody like Rosa Parks doing anything but laughing at the concept.

Actually that's egalitarianism.
Feminism is the movement to deconstruct the patriarchy, which they define as a system designed by men for the exclusive benefit of men. It also doesn't exist.
I think gender roles and society are fascinating and spend a lot of time listening to talks and reading articles about them. But feminism is more or less a joke inside these areas of study.

Despite your clear display of Ad hominem, let me try to put it in layman's terms for you.
If there is such a thing as "gender roles" the whole concept of your idea of feminism falls apart. You can't suggest that there are gender roles and then in the same breathe go "women are equal to men, but the implied roles of their gender are..."
It's arguing the point against itself, like I said before, fallacy.

???
From my minimal research, egalitarianism refers to equal rights for all people. What I described was equal rights for all genders through the process of eliminating undesirable (and all) gender roles. That's feminism. Radical feminism, from my reading, is what identifies and seeks to deconstruct the patriarchy.
Do you think you can cite some of the articles you've read?
e: also I couldn't help but notice that you're definition of feminism is almost word-for-word pulled form the wikipedia article on RADICAL feminism (which has never been about equality). ???

arguing tip #1: dropping "ad hominem" and "strawman" doesn't mean you're good at arguing
that said,
"If there is such a thing as "gender roles" the whole concept of feminism falls apart."
ok so you're saying the concept of feminism (which is to seek equality by abolishing gender roles for both men and women) falls apart when you acknowledge the existence of gender roles. ok.
"You can't suggest that there are gender roles and then in the same breathe go 'women are equal to men, but the implied roles of their gender are...'"
wait, what? no. what? no. jesus, no. what makes you think feminism is just saying "WOMEN ARE EQUAL TO MEN!" over and over again even though it's not true yet? feminism exists to reach a point where you can say women are equal to men in every way, and men are equal to women. this is done by doing away with gender roles.
read a book dude.

Allealtl;dr Feminists are claiming that the community manager is being rejected because she is a women/feminist, when the reality is that she doesn't meet any of the standards the kickstarter promised their backers.
if she actually did anything important for the company i'd agree, but i haven't seen any good reason to believe she affects the actual production of the game. i'm still expecting the game to turn out great, I really just believe MM fans are overly-paranoid they will face yet another let down based on past experiences

It doesn't matter as long as the game feels like megaman and the community gets to actually voice their opinions and actually gain a product they originally funded then they can hire who ever the fuck they want. Stop bitching, play video games.
Allealtl;dr Feminists are claiming that the community manager is being rejected because she is a women/feminist, when the reality is that she doesn't meet any of the standards the kickstarter promised their backers.
This.
And as a woman, can I just say this whole argument about what feminism is, is actually really silly. People like this Dina, Anita Sarkeesian, and most other extreme feminists chose the most redundant and useless things to focus on and actually pull the feminist movement back generations. They are the reason that there is hatred, even from women, towards their whole movement. I've been playing video games for years and I could honestly care less about strong female leads in a video game, so long as it has a great story, and the game play is good.
If you don't like the fact there isn't a strong female lead in video games, then make your own game. But don't take a game like Megaman, use Kickstarter funds, and try to push your own agenda. There are more important issues in society than trying to change a game to have a strong female lead. I guess that makes me an "angry, sweaty, entitled misogynistic nerd" who hates against her own gender, though.

Apparently she is working as an artist for the company now, which is the main concern for most of the fans and supporters.
