One of those Volt kits is a great way to get started. Cheap and easy and it'll give you an idea of what vaping is like and if it's for you.
You typically attach the cartomizer to the battery by screwing it on - that's all you need to do. Batteries charge via USB, take about 2 hours to charge.
A cart/battery will last a full day if you're a pack-a-day smoker. One cart is essentially = 1 pack. Your mileage may vary. I'd recommend using them just like a regular smoke... if you smoke one every 2 hours, keep doing that. You can rock through carts quickly if you just sit at a desk vaping all day, but it's certainly not doing as much damage as smoking real cigarettes, and tbh no one will really know you're doing unless they're looking at you doing it.
The "hits" are dependant on the strength of the niquid... 24mg is about equivalent to a regular filtered cigarette... the 18's and 12's are significantly less, but once you've waned yourself off analogs it's not a huge deal. After a couple months you actually kind of forget you even want to vape, you just do it because you like it.
Honestly, my best advice would be to pick up a kit, grab some 24mg carts and just go. Don't be embarrassed or ashamed, you're literally smoking the future and anybody that gives you shit can fuck off.

It was never caring about what people thought that stopped me, hell, my wife and I barely go out anymore, it was more that all the shit that you *could* buy with it was overwhelming. Other than seeing a starter set, which from buying electronics you know they don't come with everything you actually need, I was never sure what was actually needed and what was just an add on. PLus, the whole flavor option is tossing me a curveball. I mean, I am unsure of if I would want tobacco flavor because I don't think I have ever said "mmm, tasty" while smoking and menthol is 100X worse to me.

As long as you don't just replace cigarettes with e-cigs and use them to try to quit you should be fine.

I'd advise you to go to your nearest vape store to set you up. They do have them scattered about here and there and its definitively worth it to visit and understand the e-cig a bit better. Everything in the world of e-cigs are subjective and everyone has their share of opinions. Go there, talk to a rep, and try different devices and juices. Sure you may pay a bit more at first compared to online, but the knowledge attained there is much easier to grasp than written reviews and fumbling around with stuff trying to read how-to's and reviews for juices.

So I just received the Aqua Vapor starter kit today, set them up and tried it. I sometimes smoke a pack a day, usually a little more than a half of marl blend no27 and I think those are a pretty strong smoke, but the high e-cigs seem like smoking 3 at once. My first hit (was about 1 second tops) I got the biggest nicotine high, it was like smoking for the first time in my life. Anyways, I would go for the "medium" ones first if anyone here is trying to sdwitch off normal cigs with these. Too bad I got 15 high carts with this order...

Yeah just a little follow up I had to stop using it for most of last week as I ordered the 24mg nicotine flavors and holy hellballs... it was a straight burn on my throat. Just got a bunch of yummy flavors with 8mg nicotine (because i tend to suck on these things all day) and theyre great. I got 5 blank cartridges and 4 of the little 6mg flavors from vixen vapors and I can see it lasting me quite a long time... money saver for sure.

I to have been smoking cigs for about 10 yrs. I tried an e-cig for like a week and then stopped wasn't the same for me and was especially hard to stay on it when your boozing. The only way you will ever have success at quitting is wanting to quit despite using an e-cig or other methods. If you don't want it bad enough it won't happen.

I just smoke hookah and cigars. I've tried E-cigs and would say if you're gonna smoke a cigarette (which I've always found to be pretty yucky) it's the better way to go because the aroma is better and it isn't as clingy.
The biggest problem with quitting any addiction is that your brain has A. physical activities (holding cig, hand to mouth, etc). B. Associated habits (smoking cigs while at the PC, at the bar, etc).
Breaking those habits with a replacement activity is really good. If you *always* smoke when you're on the PC, stop and smoke only before and after for as long as you can stand it so they disassociate themselves etc, and drink oodles of water.
With nicotine your chemical addiction actually breaks pretty rapidly - it's just the habits and associations that drive you to smoke after the first several days of cold turkey.
If you do try to quit nicotine here are a few things you should be aware of:
You will likely perform more poorly at tasks in which you typically smoked during or before for a while (mostly due to distraction).
You will dream about it - often, many times the dreams will be so vivid that you will think that you broke down and smoked.
You may experience mood swings - frustration mostly.
You also will likely experience an increase in appetite because nicotine is a hunger suppressant.
Here's my rough guide to quitting smoking.
Buy a single pack and try to ration it as strongly as you can (I bought cigars by the box and hookah by bulk package - you can buy these things in smaller increments equivalent to a pack). Maybe only smoke once every 8 hours (that's how I started out). If that's too hard try for a smaller increment. Stick with that until the pack is gone. Go buy another single pack and increase the time by a few hours. The main thing here is that you are developing new habits to disassociate smoking with whatever you usually do. Also, when you smoke, do something unusual - have a walk, sit outside, don't do anything else or doing that anything else will encourage you to smoke in the future.
For the first week, try to avoid alcohol or any other things that may lower your inhibitions and thus allow you to break more easily.
Then after you start getting down to only having a few in a day (rations of 1 per 12-16 hours) you can try going cold turkey - it helps if you throw away any remaining tobacco at that time or you'll go fucking insane (don't shred them or otherwise handle them too much).
Also, put your smoking stuff in a place that's out of sight and somewhere hard to get to so you aren't tempted. I buried my stuff under a pile of random kitchenware so I'd have to pull everything out of the damn drawer and put it all back again just to have a smoke lol.
I know this isn't viable for everybody - but what really helped me was spending 3 days at my (at the time) gf's parent's house on a little vacation once I finally went cold turkey, just get away for a few days to a place where you can't smoke makes it 100% easier.
