i don't think i've ever read anything positive about it on TFTV, but is it actually that bad? what negatives should i watch out for? is it not as bad as what i've gathered from what i've read here?
If you want to have your internet spike up to the 200-300 or even 500-700 maybe every 10-20 seconds in somewhat of a daily basis.
Get TWC.
I still have it, and it makes me cry.

I've never personally had it, but knew a decent amount of people who did. Expect regular outages, random throttling, ping spikes, and don't expect to get anywhere near the speeds you are being offered.
all of that sounds better than basically having dialup wifi w/ 0.33 download lol
doesn't matter. i thought there was service for my area but there isn't. oh well (or thank god?)

i have .9 upload and 15 down with time warner, also my internet goes down for 10-15 seconds randomly pretty often, wouldnt suggest it
DSL is often a little slower than cable, but I think it's better for gaming. I've found it to be consistently lower latency, NEVER spiking as long as you're not torrenting, and the speeds are always what's advertised, they don't dip at peak usage times, because it's not effected by others in your neighbourhood using it. So, if there's DSL in your area, get it.
you might need a good router or it'll crash a lot of some reason
you'll get long severe lagspikes and sometimes outages on the service side of things, especially from 9 pm to 6 am
there's no data cap tho which is very nice

I'm curious as to why their internet is that bad and don't do anything about it. I guess suckering people into contracts (are there contracts?) and swimming in enough moula would do it.

Same thing as every other ISP in the States. No other options available, so you either go through them or have no internet. Compared to other countries, the United States internet service providers are incredibly awful.

well i technically have comcast w/ ~40 down, but considering my roommates apparently want a collections agency a part of their lives, i have to deal with this dialup wifi i get from someone across the street :V

It really depends on the area, if you live in a place with multiple big ISPs, it's usually cheaper and better because there is actual competition.

Mine isn't as bad as the people in this thread are making it out to be but I still wouldn't recommend it.
i had time warner cable oceanic (hawaiian TWC). It was fucking awful.
why is time warner cable actually good for me then? i dont get lagspikes that often but they are quick ones, and usually its because its so fucking cold outside or some shit idk. twc is fine for me
mine rarely goes out and my ping is usually fine except for some days when i have high ping to certain locations. pretty sure it throttles my twitch and my down speed to 17 now instead of it used to being around 30 but it doesn't really bother me. guess i'm lucky compared to the rest of the people here
had twc when i lived in san diego. went out all the time, people on the phone were useless and tried to tell me to restart the modem over and over without an actual answer. probably worst isp (even worse than comcast imo, that's a fucking achievement).

Exactly, they control a monopoly in most cities. There is zero accountability with ISPs, and thus, no reason for them to properly upkeep their service. Imagine if any of your utility service companies were as incompetent - your water just 'not working' for about 30 minutes spread across an entire day, for instance; You'd be fucking livid.
Thankfully I live in Austin, so it's only a matter of months(?) until I get to drop these fuckers and pick up Google Fiber.
The correct term is oligopoly as monopolies are illegal. Nonetheless, fuck ISPs and their shitty ass shit. Look at Korea or Sweden or wherever else that's not the US. Fucking insane speeds at lower costs. This bullshit really needs to stop. I mean, we're one of the most advanced countries in the world and we can't even get internet at a reasonable price.
