120Hz CRT vs. 120Hz LCD

After researching a lot about purchasing a monitor capable of 120hz or above many people playing high-fps games such as Quake Live, CS or BF3 still argue that a 120hz CRT beats a LCD

Are there any people who've experienced both 120hz CRTs and LCDs? I remember CRT's being heavy on my eyes when I was a child but there are still arguments that a 120hz LCD isn't a fluid as a 120hz (or above) CRT.

I'm currently looking at an iiyama Vision Master Pro 510 22" for £10 @ ebay and a Hanns G HS233H3B LCD monitor for £150

Oh i should mention i'll be going a little out of pocket to buy the LCD

Any thoughts or opinions appreciated

A big issue with CRTs that I've noticed is size and brightness. The colors are less clear and bright when I'm on a CRT (which isn't a HUGE deal, it's just a minor thing) and I have this huge fucking box sitting in front of me which means I need a bigger desk or I need to sit further back. Just minor issues which cause me to prefer a LCD. But cost can easily make a CRT more worth it.

I had a Samsung 997MB a couple years ago before migrating to a 2233RZ, since I refused to go with LCD as they were stuck with 60hz. I really didn't notice any difference on performance between the two, except for the fact that a LCD out of it's native resolution would blur the image. Started to play CS with 1680x1050 since then.

I just got a 120hz lcd and feel that it's much blurrier as I snap my vision around vs. my ancient CRT. That said, it's much larger and brighter, so I prefer it for everything else and am still glad I bought it.

That image is laughably fake. Why in the world would the fps counter and the dialogue at the top blur. You can't take a screenshot and see a difference in refresh rate.

It looks like they just took a still image and added horizontal blur in Photoshop. Either this was a fancy demo where they knew the exact frame/tick/whatever to take the screenshot at and was able to take it without any pause/lag in the programs to get the exact same position in all 3 images, or it's a fake.

a crt will always be better, it's just the nature of how the imagine is being displayed.

if you have infinite deskspace you can always do a crt/lcd setup, otherwise if you're any bit serious about your videogames just fork the money for the 120hz lcd. lcds have been sweeping up the majority of pros in every game because the inconvenience of crts doesnt make up for whatever microscopic edge they give at this point.

LCD: good image, low heat, no eye cancer, power saving.
LED: better image, no heat, no eye cancer, power saving.
CRT: best image, mid-high heat, eye cancer, no power saving.

i'm just waiting for a 120hz, in the past the crts almost ruined my eyes and my room was always hot cuz the time spent playing.

pretty much its like this

CRT
-better response time. thats a fact.
-can have higher refresh rate if you run a high end CRT on low resolution. (some do 200hz)
-refresh rate is best at low resolution, the higher the resolution the lower refresh rate it will have.

LCD (120hz)
-takes up less space
-has widescreen (a few CRT's do also, eg: fw900 but they are 16:10, no 16:9)
-Can do max/native resolution with 120hz. Lower resolutions don't work very well.

its up to you

ive been told a few times now that LCDs actually are worse for you health wise than CRTs because of what the "liquid crystals" really are. CRTs are also supposedly better on your eyes at high hertz than LCDs.

Well thanks for the advice
I can get some pretty cheap flat screen CRT's for £10 on ebay that do 140Hz @ 1024x768 the only problem is most people won't ship it/ collection only.

I'm more compelled to go with the LCD though even though desk room wasn't a issue plus it uses the same resolution I am on now.

The picture comparison was from tomshardware.com I believe.

my 120hz crt looks amazing ingame but when I focus for a too long it makes the lighting in my vision become darker and hard to focus. i'm contemplating using my 60hz LG LCD again for the sake of my eyes.

So is the jump from 60hz to 120hz similar to 120-200hz?

KhakiSo is the jump from 60hz to 120hz similar to 120-200hz?

Well, there are no 240Hz PC monitors yet I don't think...can you imagine having to keep your FPS above 240 always =/

But I saw a 120Hz and 240Hz TV playing the same movie next to each other in sync at the store and the 240Hz was like twice as smooth.

Do want.
