Is it too late to get a CEVO refund?

because this seems really pointless if that's the case.

spaceghostpurrpI'm glad that there is finally some communication between ESEA and the community, can you try to put more effort in community out reach in the upcoming seasons? That is one advantage that CEVO had over you guys was the fact that there was constant communication between them and the community since almost 3-4 months ago.

Nope, file a ticket at http://cevo.com/support before you play your first match, and we'll be happy to refund your payment.

Thanks,

Shooter it would be great if you taught the word "tact" to lpkane. I think it would do your company wonders.

Just in case you didn't know Shooter.
Apparently Ipkane was banning people from ESEA for 10 years if they asked him about the bitcoin lawsuit. Some people in the TF2 community were banned and that pretty much lead us to the current state of things.

I wasn't planning on playing as a starter this season due to not having enough time to scrim, but I decided to make a PUG team with friends that plays only matches, somewhat in the vein of mesr's team last season (except that we're all open players lol).

http://play.esea.net/teams/81992

I'm actually really excited to be playing again, even if there aren't scrims. If you're in a similar situation (i.e. little time), consider doing something like this. I'm not intending to soapbox but I think killing ESEA TF2 is a bigger mistake than keeping them around.

Let's play, brothers and sisters.

33 rosters. 10 paid. I have a feeling that we'll have way more Open rosters than the 30 needed - but I am worried that not enough of them will pay up. I guess this will be an "off" season for ESEA - like in S12 where there were 39 open/21 im/8 invite.

What do you guys think needs to happen so that we are not in this same predicament at the start of S17? Shooter isn't going to remedy the problem for us EVERY offseason.

Perhaps we could address new communities during the course of the season - this way, people have time to build up rosters and train up for ESEA play. I'm starting to think that if we wait to bring in new blood until halfway through the offseason it could be too late.

CEVO did a great job of bringing in new blood for S4. I think the ESEA-side of TF2 (players/admin/etc.) could learn something from that. (Note: I want to see a strong ESEA AND a strong CEVO)

There is a HUGE market of new blood out there. 600+ people at one time watched the later rounds of FITES this past weekend (I actually would hazard a guess and say that 1000+ saw the tournament at one point or another). There has to be a way to get these viewers to convert into players and build up the community - but I myself don't know how. Any ideas?

As of right now, there's about ~80 teams signed up for ESEA. This is VERY good, a nice jump of ~20 teams in about 2 days, #believe.

Invite - 4/9
Main - 5/14
Intermediate - 6/16
Open - 10/30

Let's say it looks very good for S16, but still need more to make it happen. I am very happy with the decision of extending the registration, as it seems it helped TF2.

It really is irritating that it has taken years, and for the tf2 community almost entirely ditch out of ESEA for us to actually see any change from ESEA. ESEA was willing to ride out the storm without making changes until it was absolutely necessary. And now that it is, we're showered with freemium and more promises from ESEA, I'll continue to be hesitant and suspicious of ESEA until a few seasons from now, so we can better assess their commitment to these promises.

eXtineA pro-esea'er should really get a thread going on /r/TF2 or /r/TrueTF2... While TF.tv is a great hub for us, there are a lot of TF2ers who don't come here.

Let me start by saying I know I'm solidly in the middle of the pack - not trying to talk myself up here. I've been spending a lot of time mentoring newbies, and I'm also a mod on /r/truetf2. I made an offer to that community (before I saw your post, actually) to mentor any teams that join open.

Now, that community generally likes me and all, but getting help from any real live invite players would definitely sweeten the pot. I know there's a lot of people who want to mentor newer teams. I'm more than willing to help coordinate mentoring efforts - even having one invite player a week write up/record something about the map, make a rollout video, etc. would be an awesome way to give back to the community. Paying to play a F2P game is a big step for a lot of people (hats don't count duh), and a lot of them don't feel they have the resources to make it a positive learning/play experience.

Another issue I'm noticing is a ton of (very capable!) open players are LFT, but very few open teams are LFP. Maybe it's time to bust out google docs and help people form teams with each other?

The UGC 6s league is crazy big and probably has plenty of teams that could make the jump to open with a little prodding - I just don't know an effective way to reach out to them. Personal messages are probably best.

And finally, if this season does happen, it would be awesome if whoever did open writeups could give some recognition to the newer teams, or at least not trash them every week. Writeups in the past have been a little rough around the edges for entertainment value, but it would be kinda lame to encourage all these teams to join open and then only talk about them in a negative light.

Also you guys should come post on /r/truetf2, there's a lot of people who are really willing to learn and discuss TF2 - they don't always know what questions to ask. Just please don't be mean because then I will have to remove your posts and I'll be sad :(

As much as I'm not a fan of ESEA, it only does the competitive TF2 community good for both CEVO and ESEA to stay afloat for a few seasons. That way there is much needed competition where both leagues will hopefully strive to provide better services for the competitive TF2 players.

As of now, ESEA definitely has the brand name recognition, been around for so many seasons, and has provided us LAN. ESEA however, has its own fair share of issues with its servers not being all that great, premium not seeming to really provide needed/wanted services for the comp. players.

As for CEVO, it seems to take community feedback seriously, has integrated nice things such as SizzlingStats to the site, and has the support of AG Nahanni and Lange (two very supportive and passionate members of the TF2 community). CEVO does however have a lot of uncertainty where it currently only has two divisions and does not have a lan currently.

If you have problems with the current servers, please make a support ticket. It really helps the team to locate the problem (lags, routing, etc.), and fix it. It is the best way to get it looked into.
